So my 2000 996 C4 started to have issues with driver side xenon headlight turning off and in at bumps and when it did not turn back on I just had to turn them off and back on via headlight switch. Also I could have car running with headlights on at a stop light and randomly one if the headlights would flicker quickly off and on.
So after some research I discovered that the headlight was not seated correctly because the headlight bracket was cracked where the connector receptacle is heald in place.
here is what I replaced both driver & passenger:
headlight brackets
headlight ignitors (not ballasts)
d2s bulbs
After all this it’s still doing the same things...
any ideas??

Thanks Rabit & Wizard for responding. No I haven't found any replacement part yet. It is summer here (I live in Northern California) so I have the top open all the time currently. I'm still searching before giving up and bite the bullet (getting a new motor). I even got another cheap motor from Audi (Bosch made) from EBay and open the housing since they look similar, hoping that the gear is the same (but no luck there).
I'm currently out of town but when I'm back, I'll check and measure the gear (yeah I still got it) and hopefully qtcgears will have something similar.
On side note, I didn't realize that there are response on my initial posting until today when I open the renntech.org forum. For whatever weird reason the notification email from renntech.org were automatically filtered by gmail and went to the "Promotions" (which I hardly open) instead of directly to inbox.

Andre so you are also in Northern California and know your way around convertible tops?
Man I could use your help, I have a 2000 convertible 996 and I can’t get my clamshell to open via button on dash or key in door. I could come to you if you are free on the weekend?

Can anyone recommend a convertible repair shop in Northern California (Sacramento area) that can diagnose and repair my 2000 Carrera’s top.
The clamshell won’t open, I have tried two threaded Allen bolts and seems the 3 latches won’t release so its time to get someone that knows how to diagnose and repair.

Well Andre, from what I can tell I must have had a weak part to begin with, definetly something to do with both left and right flaps mechanisms.
I removed the back seat board and took four pictures.
One picture shows the piece that broke off.
Another picture shows the driver side flap not broken, but the threaded bolt wall thread is starting to break.
Another picture shows some die cast part (broken) that held in a threaded bolt in place as passenger side flap opened and closed.
Another picture is of passenger side flap with part that is broken.
So obviously I need to have both left and right flap units replaced.
Other issue is the the clamshell latch mechanism is not functioning either. Will not open or close to release clamshell.
So question is, since I cannot turn the passenger side flap to open or close it, and the clamshell latch will not release, how do I manually unlock the latch so I can at least get the convertible top to get it into service position?

Check the easy stuff first...
Fuse B1 is the convertible top controller power (15A).
Fuse B5 is the convertible top controller power (7.5A).
Fuse D3 is the convertible top drive motor. (30A).
Loren I checked all 3 fuses all are good...
Anything else I should look at?

Well stil not fixed, I think I busted something.
While following the instructions to manually opening the clamshell using the provided Allen tool on the bolts on the rear passenger side flap and I heard a snap and then the Allen tool just spun freely so I must have broke a screw... Help!
How can I open the clamshell to see what's broke now?

My 2000 c4 top has always worked, that is until today.
Handbrake is on, engine lid is closed, but when I press the dash button nothing happens, meaning the clam lid (not convertible top) does not open up.
I hooked up my Durametric and error says:
Timed Out
Any thoughts....

My only FOB remote is failing after 10 years, I've changed batteries in it and now I'm having to open door with key on driver door. It's a 2000 carrera 4 Cabrio.
Called Niello Porsche dealer they quoted $485 to replace and program it.
I've heard that you can order fob remote head part from sunset porsche so I called them and they are priced at 149 plus shipping, which is good so does anyone know of a local Indy near Sacracramento, CA area that can program it fully for less than dealer dealer?

Thanks I'll check my cap

Other than the fuse on the driver side kick panel, is there other fuses for this fan?
-
That's what really prompted me to look into this.

So is steam rising out of engine deck lid ok?
-
Well I did this because the needle at first showed close to 210 degrees, so I took a temperature gun and read the temp on the reservoir at about 210 degrees and the reading was spot on at 208.

I just bought a 2000 996 c4 and need some advice...
Today I warmed it up till it was at 180 degrees (at begining of "0" of the 180 degree mark) and then turned off the car. Then I disconnected the engine temp sensor plug and turned on the ignition, voila the fan goes on but it turns off when I plug the sensor back in?
Now I read that the engine compartment fan is supposed to switch on when the engine compartment temperature is greater than 176 degrees.
The engine compartment fan does NOT turn on when temps are 176 degrees. So is my engine blower fan ok, is it a relay, fuse, or maybe the temp sensor?
Another noob with a cabrio top issue
