  1. Thanks for the link, as others have commented a great write-up. I did a search on axle stands but didn't think to try jack stands (another UK/USA difference to note). However, I don't need to get the car right off the ground I just wanted a simple safety support to use in addition to the small Porsche "wheel change" jack while I'm cleaning wheels etc. I'm now thinking about having one of my existing stands modified so that I can bolt it to the hub, do you know if anyone has tried this?
  2. My standard set of axle stands appear to be unsuitable for the 997 hub, the tapered profile the hub not sitting well in the U section of the stand. How do others support their cars while cleaning under wheel arches, calipers etc?
  3. About a year ago I copied this picture from a Rennlist forum. I've been able to obtain all of the emergency spare kit, wheel, jack etc but I can't find a part number for the expanded polystyrene packing that the wheel is shown sitting on. My OPC is unable to locate it can anyone here help?
  4. Thanks. On reflection I think that 996 Targa 60psi pressure must be for storage of a non-collapsible spare and that 36psi is probably the correct road use pressure.
  5. I don't expect there to be any difference between 996 and 997 I'm sure the emergency spare that I have is common to both. No mention of emergeny spare on the door plate just sealant, speed <80 km/hr.
  6. Thanks for the information, I couldn't locate it in my C2S manual. That's a huge difference between the Targa and C4 models - wonder why that is. Allan
  7. Anyone know what the recommended pressure is for the emergency spare and is it different for front or rear fitting?

  9. Chris, thanks for your response. The wheel will be off the car so it looks as though this ought to be a very simple task. It was just that I read of someone having difficulty removing the cap, even with the wheel off, that made me think this might not be so straightforward. I've only had the car a few months, it's my first Porsche, and not had any need to remove a wheel until now.
  10. Nick, Jean, thanks for your response. The wheel will be off the car so it looks as though this ought to be a very simple task. It was just that I read of someone having difficulty removing the cap, even with the wheel off, that made me think this might not be so straightforward. I've only had the car a few months, it's my first Porsche, and not had any need to remove a wheel until now.

  12. Please forgive a dumb question but I need to put my mind at ease. C2S 2007 build Carrera Sport wheels with coloured centre crest. I have a slow, front left-side, puncture which I will be getting fixed later this week. While searching on another forum for tyre depots that can be relied on not to damage rims I came across a comment that implied that removal of the wheel centre caps was the most difficult part of the task. I will most likely buy my tyre on-line, remove the wheel and cap myself and take to a local depot to have it fitted. Is there a recommended procedure for removing the wheel centre cap that will minimise the risk of damage? Thanks, Allan (Also posted in Boxster forum)

  14. You may want to check out this Car and Driver review: http://www.caranddriver.com/features/10252...-the-tread.html it provides a detailed comparison of a range of tyres. My MY07 C2S with Carerra Sports wheels came fitted with Bridgestone tyres. I have nothing to compare these with but I feel that road noise is excessive at times. When the time comes to replace these I will probably opt for Michelin (replacing as a minimum an axle set).
  15. My circa 25mpg is per imperial gallon this equates to around 21mpg per US gallon. Also I never start the car unless its for a minimum of a ten mile trip, I avoid rush hour and traffic hot spots wherever possible and I have only once used less than 99 RON fuel.

  17. Did you mean dropped or increased? Either way I changed my oil at 1900 miles and did not notice any change in mpg, I was averaging 25.5 mpg before oil change and average is now (3000 miles) 25.1 Best recorded mpg before oil change was 29 (fully loaded, mostly motorway cruising at 80mph, <4000rpm) and best since has been 27 but with a mixture of road types and now using the car's full rev range. (Note: mpg figures are based on imperial gallon for equivalent US gallon multiply by 0.833, fuel mostly Shell 99 RON)
  18. Yes, to be precise it's Volcano Gray. I tried blending grey and black shoe polish to get the correct tone but neat black gave the best result.
  19. I thought you might be interested to know that black shoe polish did the trick. Not a perfect solution but good enough to be unnoticable at anything less than a close inspection
  20. I bought my 06 S for the Adaptives , sport shift and sport chrono +. I am 5'6" 150 and go back and forth to Mass. from NJ every other week. The Seats are very comfortable. My wife is 5'2" amd small she also finds them very comfortable. Take a test drive, adjustments are infinite, practically impossible to not be comfortable. Worth every penny, IMHO! Similar height and weight, I also have the adaptive sports seats and find them very comfortable. I really like the inflatable bolsters, although it took me a few miles in the seat to fine tune all of the settings. Drove from Uk to north Germany and back last month and recently returned from Scotland, a 6 hour trip, with just one fuel stop and finished the trip with no aches or pains. These are the only seats I have used so I am unable to comment on their relative merits but I'm sure you wont regret having them.

  22. Yes I'm sure you are right, I will check out what coloured waxes are available, other alternatives that have been suggested are shoe polish and a permanent pen marker. My local body shop warned against polishing as this results in a localised high gloss finish that looks wrong against the original matt sheen.
  23. Somehow I have managed to place a scratch in the grey, metallic like, plastic seat backing of one of my 997 adaptive sport seats. The scratch is not very deep but appears as a thin, near vertically running, straight, white line about three inches long just below the coat hanger. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions as to how I might camouflage this?
  24. My C2S used 200ml of oil during first 1600 miles. This equates to 8000 miles/litre and I'm hoping that once the engine has settled in it will improve on this. I try to avoid short journeys and always follow the start-up and drive steady until warm advice.
