  1. Thank you logray for the detailed reply. I was wondering if we know who is manufacturing the actual Porsche part (Porsche does not make rotors or pads). I don't want to go for an alternative, I want the exact same part - I just don't care to pay extra for the "Porsche" logo on the cardboard box it comes in.
  2. Hi, My 2003 996C2 convertible is in need of new brakes. I was thinking it would be cheaper to buy OEM rather than Porsche original parts, but I cannot find who manufactures the Porsche brakes for my car. Any ideas/part #? Thanks, Michael
  3. Hi Loren, Thanks for your reply. Would you happen to know where the sensor for the roof cover is located so I can inspect it and see if it is making full contact? Thanks, Michael
  4. Hi, I am 99% sure your problem is the same as the one I had a few weeks ago. Have a look here for the fix:
  5. Hi all, My 2003 996 cabrio has the following intermittent problem: When I try to close the top via the dashboard switch, the roof cover opens but then the process stops - the top does not start moving up/forward. This happens every now and then, and usually if I open the top and close it again it works. Other than that the roof is working fine - no noises, not struggling at all etc. I assume the problem is with some kind of sensor that tells the car that roof cover is fully open, but I cannot find where that sensor is to check if it working properly. Any ideas? Thanks, Michael
  6. Apparently there is a Porsche TSB for this - you just cut off a small piece of the plastic replacement and glue it on the latch. No dismantling is required.
  7. Hi! I just got the part and I am going to try and install it this weekend. Did you dismantle the latch mechanism? Was it easy? Any hints?
  8. Hi Lauren, Thank you for your reply. I think I need part #12 in the pic. Is this sold separately?
  9. Hi, I am looking for the part number for the plastic cover of the main latch for the convertible top of a 2003 996. You can see in the 2 photos the part I need - in one of the photos I have pulled the plastic off to separate it from the latch. Without the plastic cover, the latch does not fully press the switch and the top cannot complete the close sequence. Thanks, Michael
  10. Thank you Loren for the diagram. I lubricated every joint with WD-40 and this seems to have done the job!!
  11. Hi Loren! The pedal seems to get stuck (momentarily) at something plastic when it is fully depressed. I then hear the plastic noise and the pedal is released as normal. It is not a squeak, it is more like hitting a metal object on the edge of a hard plastic board.. I don't know how to explain this better. Does the clutch spring have a top cover around the hole where its piston goes? If so could this be out of place getting in the way of the piston?
  12. Hi! Lately when I press the clutch pedal all the way down, when I release it it gets stuck for half a second or so and then it releases. It also makes a noise as if it gets stuck with something plastic. I feel it getting stuck to something as well. The noise comes from the pedal or the area under the steering wheel. Any ideas what to look for? Thanks, Michael ps. The car is MY03 996 convertible
  13. The changes in PCM are part of standard upgrades that Porsche does - I don't think they are part of a facelift. The salesman mentioned (amongst other changes) more power (I think 515bph) in the facelift car.
  14. A friend's MY04 996 recently had an intermediate shaft failure and he is now going for a replacement engine with an estimated cost of 15,000 euros. This got me worried and I thought I should ask the more experienced about this. 1. Is there a way to check whether your car is close to failing? 2. Is there some preventive work that can be done (perhaps during a clutch replacement) for this type of failure? 3. Is there something that the owner did wrong and got this failure (eg forgot to replace oil in time, oil level was too low, etc)? I have MY03 cabrio and lately I find myself taking it too easy with the car, subconsciously worried - this is not good!
  15. A friend went to a Porsche dealer to order a 997TT and the salesman told him that there is an upcoming facelift for the TT expected this fall. Does anyone know for a fact that this is true and perhaps what that facelift will include? Thanks, Michael
  16. Thank you very much for the info! At least now I know where to find them. I am sure it wont be too much trouble - a good DIY is always fun anyway.
  17. Hi! I am planning to do a DIY replacement of my M030 suspension tomorrow morning and I just realised I have no idea how to reach the rear strut mounts. I read that it involved quite a lot of work but I am not sure which parts I need to remove to reach them. A quick scan of the workshop manual didn't help either. If someone can point me to the right documentation, or give me some basic instructions I would really appreciated it. Otherwise I will replace the front struts and do the rest of the work next week. Thanks, Michael ps. The car is MY03 996 Convertible
  18. I am about to replace my M030 shocks with Bilstein (Yellow) "Sprint" shocks. What I was wondering is whether this will make the ride even harder than it is now. Has anyone tried these shocks?
  19. I have the same problem on the right hand side of my MY03 911. Here is a picture of the left hand side which I think is fine (sorry for the picture quality).
  20. Ohh sorry - now I get it. But where did you find the 670 euro price for M030 kit? The best price I've got is 1,000 euro plus delivery.
  21. I am sorry but I do not understand. My car already has the M030 kit and I want to replace the shocks. The question is whether I should go for Porsche parts (around 1400 euro), Bilstein normal shocks (around 820 euro) or Bilstein sport (yellow - around 620 euro). All prices are for a set of 4 shocks.
  22. Ok, since nobody seems to know this let me ask a different question :P I can get Bilstein Sport shocks at a very good price and I need to know whether they will work well with the M030 springs that my car has. Anyone?
  23. I am not sure how to tell for certain if my shocks need replacing, but given the car has more than 80,000 km I think it is time for a new set. What make and model are the shocks porsche provides for the M030 suspension? Also, should I replace the top-mounts when I replace the shocks?
  24. I am afraid this is not the case. Since the connectors are meant for regular bulbs Porsche did not pay attention to polarity. You have to switch the cables on the connector and try again. If this is too hard to do (like in my case) you can just cut the cables 2cm before the connector and do the switch there.
  25. If you end up trying this, can you please post a photo or two (or a diagram) so I can try it on my C2 Cab which does the same horrible sound every now and then.
