  1. Roger that. I'm now 99.9% certain it's my HPFP. I'm no longer in denial. So, out of curiosity given the past WA29 campaign, I called Porsche NA yesterday and told them my situation and asked what my present options might be; if any. Without much hesitation, the nice man acknowledged my pain and offered a $500 Porsche voucher to help with the cost. I'll be ordering a rebuilt unit (-GX ) once the voucher arrives next week. Not bad support for an out of warranty 09 S with 150k miles!

I had a similar problem with 2009 Cayenne S. Durametric shows code P1023 & P1026. Had fault code erased but fault code comes back after test driving again. Changed both fuel pumps, fuel filter , pressure regulator & all spark plugs but didn't help. Long cranking starts & erratic idle & Engine misfire on kickdown. Will Order ignition coil & vent valve / line & hoping would solve the problem.

I know this is VERY old but I'm dealing with the same issues. Ever resolve this?

  3. Keep us posted. I'm on the opposite end of the parts chase having just done both pumps, filter and regulator this week. Was HOPING that was it. While she runs much better, I'm still getting hesitation/misfires when I give it heavy throttle. I'm hoping simply replacing the cam stopper solves my problem as I smelled burning plastic from the rear of bank 2 right before all hell broke loose. My hypothesis is that the failing low pressure pumps created stress on the hpfp causing it (cam stopper) to do it's job and fail. Any chance I'm on to something or is the HPFP simply shot?

  4. Looks like you and I are chasing the same dragon. Just replaced both fuel pumps, filter and regulator and still experience lag when I lay into the throttle. Have you replaced your high pressure fuel pump? I noticed a smell of burning plastic from the engine bay prior to my fuel pump failures. I understand the hpfp is driven by the bank 2 camshaft via a clutch that is held in place by a $50 piece of plastic. My hypothesis is that the failing low pressure pumps created stress on the hpfp causing the clutch to fail (really, do it's job vs tearing up the camshaft) and am HOPING simply replacing the $50 plastic cam stopper solves my issue now that the hpfp is getting good fuel pressure/ delivery. If not, I'm in for an early $1200 HPFP birthday present...

  5. Agreed. The problem started with the primary fuel pump failure which leads me to believe the low pressure pumps failing created stress on the high pressure pump which in turn then failed. Replaced both low pressure pumps, filter and regulator today. (Original and lasted 150k) Runs WAY better but still bogs down when I go for throttle up... Has anyone heard of the cam stopper blowing out/melting being the issue vs the actual hpfp failing?

  6. Hello, I have a 2004 cayenne Turbo and am experiencing problems with the heating controls.  The blower/fan works fine, you can adjust the speed etc. The direction of the heat, heat/temperature and recirculation controls do not work.  it is warm air all the time, this cannot be turned up or down and teh heat comes out of all the vents regadless on where you want the heat directed, i.e wind screen. I think its something to do with the motors that move the flaps, but cant seem to find out what the issue is or how to reslove it.  Has anyone else had this issue?  thanks in advance

Go on pelican parts diy for the blower motor and it tells which other part likely goes bad. It's usually the AC/heater regulator. Easy fix. Might also consider doing the blower motor while you're in there. Took me all of 10 minutes. Hope this helps, Matt

Hi folks, my u joint connecting the column to the gear is loose; observed from underneath the car. Leaves a half inch of play in the steering wheel which drives me nuts at higher speeds or in windy conditions. My buddy heard it from a 'Porsche guy' that there's a way to simply tighten the u joint or swap the intermediate steering shaft vs replacing the steering gear or steering column as the dealer recommended. Thank you in advance, Matt in Chicago

  8. Most rough idles are caused by a dirty throttle body not letting the correct amount of air through the idle holes near the butterfly. I would always start with cleaning the throttle body.
If that does not fix or improve the idle I think you need to start looking for air or vacuum leaks in both the intake and exhaust systems.

Thank you Loren. Cleaned the throttle body. Seemed to make a moderate difference at idle and smoother acceleration. Pretty sure I also have an exhaust leak as I'm noticing sooty water drippings on my garage floor, front passenger area... And keep throwing P0421/31 codes. Cats replaced last year. Mind sharing the voltage range for front and rear O2 sensors? I easily found the rear sensor output with my Durametric. Not sure I'm finding the fronts? Would 1.9v make sense up front? Rears bounce between .6-.1v. Thank you in advance, Matt in Chicago - 2009 Cayenne S w/142k miles. (Next project is fluids for brakes, diff's, transfer case and tyranny :)

  9. Update I had the wheel balanced and the vibration is less. I haven't had time to replace the strut top mounts yet and also the drivers side top control arm.
Having looked at the lower control arm bushes and ball joints and track rod ends I think the rest of the vibration is the old engine mounts as the 3 transmission mounts are new.
Lastly the amount of backlash in the front diff hub really signals why I hear the diff whine at higher speeds.
Anyone done a front diff rebuild on the economical side? I'm quite prepared to strip and replace the bearing and seals as long as the gears are good to go. Changed the diff oil twice no metal at all.

Please update if/when you get around to this. Thanks. -Matt

  10. I just put in the same Bosch plugs last week. Blue right? I was concerned as well about my old green plugs having an R5 vs the newer one's R6 stamped on them. Called Bosch yesterday and a tech promptly returned my call. The R number is simply ohm resistance (reduce electrical interference) and nothing to worry about. As far as decreased MPG. Yes. I live in Chicago and cold air can reduce MPG by as much as 20%. It's subzero right now...
