  1. I have the "Pedro Style" bypass pipes on my '02 S, coupled with secondary cat bypass pipes...the sound is incredible; not too loud and no drone or resonance. I can highly recommend the modification.
  2. "harness for the MAF didn't fit this replacement, so he just cut it off and connected the wires directly" Yikes! And you paid this clown? I'd go after him for damaging my car...
  3. I purchased it from an eBay seller in Florida (don't recall the name) about four years ago. It has held up quite well, but my car is not a daily driver. I recall the price was somewhere around $200 prepped and painted. I'll take a pic of the spoiler in a raised position this weekend...here's another angle in the down position. Here is a similar item, though I see they now produce them in Duraflex, which "may" be a better option, but cannot vouch for fit or finish. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Boxster-Turbo-Style-rear-Wing-Spoiler-PAINTED-Bolt-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1e638a2d9aQQitemZ130519018906QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  4. I have one of the fiberglass aftermarket spoilers and have had very good luck with it. The key to the install is not to over tighten the set screws on install, because it is likely you will crack the unit at the mounts. Paint quality was very good and I get many compliments on it; be interesting to see if you can make the Cayman unit work or not.
  5. My car is nine years old and it's on the second Moll factory battery, which I need to replace when the car comes from winter storage; it is garage kept, unlocked and covered. Even though the car is always on a maintainer, the factory battery still dies an early death. I refuse to purchase another and will go to AutoZone for a Duralast, which is a direct replacement. I've had an Optima Red Top in the 911 for the eight or nine years and it doesn't show a sign of giving up...I don't even need to charge/maintain it, as there is no parasitic draw from an 37 year old car. I think you've learned; if the car isn't going to be run, put it on a maintainer, as they draw too much power just sitting.
  6. Might have a go at it myself, since they have never been cleaned after nine years and 19k miles. Might be a good time to swap a GT3 MkI nose, while I'm at it!
  7. I regret not replacing my water pump, when I installed the LN low temp t-stat and replaced the coolant. Now after reading Jake Raby's warnings on aged pumps, I face the project again, just 1 1/2 years after the last coolant dump. My Box is now nine years old, with 19k miles on the clock. Luckily, the pump impeller hasn't given out (as far as I know), but will change it as a precaution. I think I'll inspect my mount while in there, but doubt it's a problem. I'm going to purchase a new container to dump the coolant in and re-use it, as I hate to waste something that is perfectly good.
  8. If the car is still in that nice of condition, here's hoping someone will make the effort to replace the engine and get some additional life from the Box. Good luck!
  9. I really like the transition; the dark wheels make quite a difference, as well as the smoked light treatment and the matt stripes. Looks like a later front bumper and I am also very curious how you transformed the headlights...is that vinyl overlay?
  10. I have January 2011, but Feb has not shown up in my mailbox, as yet (it's always late!) Let me know if I can help.
  11. I suggest you visit Pelican Parts, read Wayne's write-up and spend $23 for his 101 Boxster Projects book. It will likely answer all your questions regarding engine swaps.
  12. I have a one touch button in my '02 that I bought from another forum member years back. I still need to stop it on the way down (to chop), but the one touch is nice for putting it back up. Is it worth the $100 I paid back then? Doubtful, but it was something I "thought" I had to have.
  13. I've been a member of the Chicago Region since 1993. Have met many new friends, learned all about car care from tech sessions, proper car detailing and proper high speed driving instruction (I've been an instructor myself for the last 10-12 years). We have many talented members in our region that are more than willing to share their knowledge and experience. Some have raced pro/semi-pro, some are national concours winners/judges; others are highly technical, such as Charles Navarro of LN Engineering. Is it worth the $40 a year?...you bet it is, along with all the other benefits already listed!
  14. Great write-up. Work like this continues to take the mystery out of the IMS; making the decision to replace is that much easier when the time comes (I plan to do mine as preventative maintenance since my car has just 18k miles after eight years).
  15. My rears are 10 x 18 with an et 47. The inside is a bit close to the strut, but does not rub. I did need to tie back the e-brake cables, however. My car is lowered about 1.5" ('02 S), so I did not want the outer rubbing on the fender lip. As posted previously, 11mm would put you where mine are and 15mm would move you out ever so slightly.
  16. Many members (me included) prefer Castrol Syntec 5W or 10W40 flavor. As Loren stated, this has been covered time and again with no "correct" answer. Those that know the engines well, will tell you to stay away from Mobil 1 0W40...too thin and increases wear. Do read Charles Navarro's report on the LN website...you will gain the insite to the thinking behind oil discussions.
  17. I have this small "Cayman type" spoiler...subtle, but I like it. I purchased it off eBay from a dealer in Florida...you can get it painted to your color code by the seller. Mine came very nicely finished and has been without issue for four years now.
  18. You might check with Mantis Sport...very active in Porsche Club Racing and knowledgeable folks. Plus, they're almost in your neighborhood. http://www.mantisspo...58/Default.aspx
  19. And when the engine blows from the boost it wasn't designed for, you can install the 3.4. Jake Raby has already expressed how weak the connecting rods and other internals are...about the only thing up to snuff are the heads. I realize 4.5 psi is not that great, but you already have a fairly high compression ratio of 11:1 to deal with.
  20. I changed my coolant last spring since I was installing the LN low temp T-stat. I found driving the car under various conditions for few days with the bleeder valve open worked just fine. I would check the level periodically and top off as needed; there was no spillage in my case, either.
  21. See below...for some reason I can't delete this double post!
  22. 10W40 Castrol Syntec...warm weather driven only and I want my engine to last; therefore , no Mobil 1.
  23. They sure went out of their way to answer your question. Ask those that take apart broken M96 engines that use exclusively M1 0W40 and see the answer you get. I wouldn't use Mobil 1 0W40 in my lawn mower.
  24. I've used nothing but RagTopp and my top looks new. Buy it inexpensively on eBay.
