  1. There is another way, which is cheap. It'll require some searching because I don't have the link handy... but there is a way to modify the top relay by clipping off (or bending over) a particular pin. This will allow you to lower or raise the top with the car moving. Now, you have to make sure you don't do it when going faster than 25 or so, or you could cause damage. Also, you have to pull the parking brake up one click to enable operation. Search for Boxster hacks and you should find the relay mod.
  2. Clonking... probably not a bearing in my experience. Make sure the sway bar end links are not loose or worn out. Check by putting the car up on ramps or jack stands, get under, and grab one end of the bar and yank up and down... hard. Also check lug nuts, check the upper strut nuts, check the spindle clamp nut (which is also the bottom end of the sway bar drop link.) Also inspect your bushings to make sure there are no tears, etc. Cheers.
