  1. I will try that tomorrow afternoon! That sounds like a great idea to make sure the connector is secure. Tried to buy the "driving light" or "fog" Light blub from Napa. They said HUH!? "not in the book, part does not exist".... Do I have to buy this blub from the dealership? thanks for all the help.

A couple of weeks ago I changed to the higher performance headlight bulbs and when i re-installed the headlights only the RH light worked. i pulled out and re fitted the LH one several times before I noticed that although the fixed connector in the headlamp shell looked solid it was loose.

There was no way the connector on the headlight was going to make contact with it. ( the plastic mount is cracked) I disconnected it and found the wire is long enough to connect the headlight before sliding it into the wing. You could try that and see if the lights work

  2. Hey Guys,

I have a 2.7L 2000 with roughly 65k on her (bertha). My Passanger side headlight has completly sh!t the bed on me. So about a month ago I noticed that only low beam worked out of that headlamp! Signal, high beam and fog/driving lamp where all not working.

So, I cheacked the fuses, they seemed fine. I pulled that headlight and checked the male to female connection, again all seemed fine. So I ran down to the local auto parts store and bought the a headlight and signal blub.

Then I carefully installed the blubs making sure everything was clean dry etc etc.

Put the key in the igintion... and .....

    NOTHING WORKS NOW!

I sucessfull spent several hours and about $60 to make my headlight WORSE! Ughh

So before I take the car to the dealer what should I check or recheck..... What did I miss?

  3. I bought an 04 S a year ago from a non Porsche dealer. I thought I was being smart by taking it to the dealer that was literally across the street to have them go over the vehicle and do any warranty updates on the vehicle. They said everything checked out great and it was a solid vehicle. I asked "were there any common problems on this year Cayenne"? They said just the coils. I proceeded to purchase the vehicle only to find out on they way home I had to avoid an animal in the road and went to use my horn (no horn)! Thanks for the 2 hour "complete" inspection! My milage in mixed driving is close to 16 and 22 on the HWY. I still love this Truck. I would prefer a 911 but this is the closest thing to that when you have to drive the family and clients around. I would reccomend the following:

    Get an extended warranty

If money were close consider the turbo

Stay away from the 04 (without a warranty)

Expect to service this vehicle a bit more than the average car.

    Problems I have experienced:

Cardan (drive shaft) 52k miles $950 at the dealer

Rear hatch supports (easy to replace difficult to get at) $75

Electrical A/C servo motors (intermitent gerbal noises)

Headlight turn signal beeps every morning (moisture issue)

    Horn, not too difficult $25

Insrument info screen goes dim on hot days

The best thing you have already done it to ask the members of this forum. They are the best resource for you question and are extremely helpful!

    Best of luck!

Thank you for that! That is super helpful.

I am looking at a couple of '05 Turbo's. I just found on with only 14k on it and is priced less then 50 grand! That seems to good to pass up! I will post pics and an update as I move forward with this purchase.

How hard is ipod hookup on this model? Just wondering.

    thanks again everybody....

  4. Thanks everybody!

Super helpful advice. I have been poking around ebay a bit and found a handfull of '05 TURBO's for under 40k. Most with average milage. Are there any issuse that anyone has run across with higher milage Cayenne's? Other then the obivous!

How hard is the car to work on yourself?

As with ALL of my past Porsche's I have done most of the regular stuff, brakes, Fluids/filters etc.

What do you all think is a better buy:

    Lets say option A is

    An 06 "S" loaded with 20k

    or

    Option B

    an 05 Turbo with 50k

Price, color options all being =

Oh side note I live in NorCal and will be driving this car up to Reno and Tahoe in the winter over hwy 80. Can't wait to try in a Cayenne.

    Thanks again

    PR

  5. Hey guys,

I have had many Porsche in my life but I have never had a Cayenne. I was hoping to get some general feedback as to what people feel is the "best" MY Cayenne.

Ok first off this car is going to be the family car (wife and two active dogs...kids coming someday)

This car will mainly be drivin by my wife. (My dream is a GTS in GTS red BUT.. its 90k and way to much car for her. )

So we are looking at used "S's".

What options are a must have?

    MY to stay away from?

Are there any ares to be mindfull of?

    Etc etc etc....

I apperciate any help you can give.

    PR

  6. i guess my answer was useless.

    http://www.986forum.com/forums/showthread....Denison+Icelink

    but i'm not pretending.

I thank you for all the help. I have done some research, and I did not find the answer to my question, (although I did find many differnt ways to hook up my Ipod)

I have been looking into the ICE link. I called them 3x and have yet to talk with anybody. Other then there site, is there a safe place to buy one? I already bought the cable to hook up the Ipod to the back of the CDR220, so I think I just need to find a good car mount.

    Any ideas there~

  7. OK sorry guys I know this stuff has been posted all over. But i can't sem to get it right. I have a MY00 with a CDR-220

I want to hook my Ipod Nano up to my radio (with docking station) so that I can control everything from my radio and charge the ipod in the docking station. How do I do it, and where do I buy it. Pertend I am really dumb.

    Thanks guys

buy a new head unit with ipod control.

If anybody could chime in with a less useless answer

  9. I am finally having the front bumper repaired. I have a MY00 2.7 liter.

I want to upgrade my front bumper to something a little more agg. but I want to use Poly and not fiberglass. That limits my options to what Porsche already makes. My body shop guy tells me that I can get the S front bumper w/ground effects. I have no idea what that looks like. Any pics would be great. Thanks for the help guys

  10. Hawk HPS pads are very good on the Boxster. They don't have a hole for the wear sensor. You can drill a hole if you wish or you can tie up the sensor wires (and not use them). Either way is pretty easy. When you take the old pad out you wil see where the hole is supposed to be. It doesn't have to be exact by any means, just close to the backing plate.

Changing the brake pads is very easy, BTW.

Ok, So I have a set of Hawk pads, and a new set of wear sensors and the Porsche recommended brake kit. I will also be painting my brakes red with new logo's when I do the b. pad change.

My question is, how do I tell if I need new rotors. I dont really have the extra cash to spend on new rotors right now. And besides I really want to upgrade to cross drilled anyway.

It does not look to be any deep scoring on the rotors,...but I bought the car with 47k in it, she now has 59k and I have no idea of when the rotors where last changed, if ever.

    What to do?

  11. Thanks!

Hey found a good deal on Hawk pads to put up front. Has anybody tried these before, ( I have used red box Mintex pads in the past)

I can't seem to tell if they have a spot for the wear sensor.

Other then checking the thickness of the rotor, how do I tell if the rotor is to worn? And if so what have people used in the past that is good (and resonably priced)

    Thanks again!

  12. I have a MY00 2.7L and I need to replace the power steering lines both the pressure line and the return line. The ones the run under the drivers seat.

Any idea where I can find out how to do this?? I am pretty sure I can figure it out but... any help would be great. :D

    Thanks~

  13. Any thoughts? Please chim in with other things I should look at. Thanks

Yeah one thing comes to mind....Your PowerSteering Fluid level... If you drive it when nearly empty, you can burn out the pump, and ruin seals inside the rack and get air pockets inside.... Refill your fluid and turn the wheel back and forth half turns until it feels easy again and makes no noise.

    HELP HELP!

So it looks like I crushed two Power streeing lines under the drivers side door. My dealer wants $1500 to fix it!

What can I do!? How can I fix this myself?? I also have API warrenty and they wont fix it because it did not break I broke it!

  14. I have a MY00 986 with 59k and teh 60 service was preformed 2k ago:

Ok so on the drive the other night I notice a groan/whine. The sound was akin to going in revese but louder.

So iget home and pull into my parking spot and at this point the sound is so loud people were looking!

Then, no power steering at all! Done!

Does'nt seem weird that it would fail so soon? I mean I have owned 4 other Porsche and never once had this issuse.

Any thoughts? Please chim in with other things I should look at. Thanks

  15. Before I bought my Boxster I read a review of some Road&Track or Autoweek review where the driver claimed to be 6"3" and amazed that he was comfortable in the Boxster.

I'm 6'0" and although the ride fit is not to bad I have to have the seat 100% back and tonight I noticed that my head would be smashed into the rear roll bar if in a frontal or rear incident. The seats are not tall enough to protect the whiplash affect, basically the seat fits into the rollbar and thus no protection.

Anyone else have these concerns or know of any bad accidents to support this theory.

    Shawn

You need to buy a Boxster 987. You will fit much better! :)

I am 6'2" and am worried that the rear crown of my head would bash open if I was ever to get hit. I have thought about swapping out my seats for something sportier and taller!

  16. Does it crank longer then before or does it seem to be cranking over slower before it flashes up??

The battery was replaced in April. The car lights up fine, cranks for a few seconds and off I go. I am going to put some fuel cleaner through this weekend. ( which one is the best to use?) And I will let you know if that makes any diff. Any other thoughts

    Thanks

Oh and there seems to be a soft and quiet grinding/rubbing out of my right rear brakes. Should I get the rotors turned?

  18. I have a MY00 and the full 60k service was proformed less then 3k ago, but it seems to take longer and longer to start lately.

about 9k miles ago the car started very quickly now it takes 2-3 seconds. Any ideas, I would love to take care of this problem before it got worse. Could it be beacause of E85, or poor gas ( I always use +92 oct.)

    Thanks

  19. Ok you will never belive this. I went out to the street to check on my car as I do every morning. I found muddy foot prints on my car. HUMAN foot prints! Some jackass walked up onto my rear trunk across my top down my hood and jumped off my quater panel. Leaving scratchs and dents! :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored:

I hate people! :censored: :censored: :censored:

Why would anybody do that! AUGGGG

Anyway, I now need a new front bumper. I wanted to look into the aftermarket world for something with clean lines but a bit more mean looking. You know a little on the aggersive side, without looking to "ricer".

Just looking for options. Please post pics of what you think looks good. I am trying to get some ideas.

    Thank you everybody

Oh an clearly I cant spell!
