  1. Looked into this a bit further...the APR tune seems like a good choice along with a BMC and IPD plenum. Not sure I get anything but noise from exhaust unless I go with akrapovic or fabspeed. Any thoughts out there?
  2. I'm starting my winter upgrade list and could use some expertise and opinion. I have an 07 911S 6M. I would like to add the following: plenum, exhaust, intake (likely just a BMC filter) and flash the ECU. My questions are regarding brands and models of these upgrades. I would like exhaust to have a low rumble but most interested in HP and torque gains. Also, some mild suspension upgrades for occasional track use. Any thoughts/suggestions/experience with what's a good combo of all the above? Thanks!
  3. Went through the manual, thought it might be in the key/driver setup. I cannot access the driver setup in the PCM. Could this be a software issue?
  4. I do...just talked to the dealer and he couldn't figure out why it isn't showing up either. I'm looking through the manual now. ??
  5. So I have Sport Chrono in my 2007 911S. I thought it was operated through the PCM and could't figure out how to turn it on. A friend has a 911 with it also and showed me how to do it but when I go to the display on the tach where it should be I have no option for Chrono. Is there a trick to turning this feature on? Maybe in the key fob settings? No clue why I would have it in the car with no access to it. Thanks for any help.
  6. I’ve been doing research on the potential IMS and bore scoring issues for my 2007 911 S. The news I’m finding for this MY is encouraging as most issues seem to favor MYs 2005-2006. That’s not bullet proof but it’s consistent with sources such as Flat Six Innovations and Porscheinspections.com, etc. Seems the bore issue is due to a couple of factors, one being cold starts. As I mentioned in a previous post, it seems the best insurance is 6 month/6k oil changes and avoiding cold starts. Assuming the oil has to come to temp to protect the engine how long does the car need to idle to be deemed “in the safe operating temp zone” (I realize outside temp factors in). Also would the 3rd radiator mod be a good idea?
  7. I attended my first autocross school this weekend, what a blast! I plan on doing more of these and a track day here and there. As a result, I also plan on doing my own minor maintenance such as oil changes and brakes for example. I'm curious if anyone can recommend a "basic" tool set for working on these cars. I realize this can be a huge list the deeper one gets but I'm talking very basic...favorite torque wrench (size, brand), floor jack, jack stands, etc. I have the sockets and torx I believe I need. Thanks!
  8. Flat Six recommends oil service at 6 months/5k miles with either Motul 8100 or Driven DT40 over Mobil for (as close to) preventative maintenance as one could hope. Any experience with these oils? 5W40 I assume, I live in Chicago and only plan on very sporadic winter driving (cold starts) while driving fairly regular April- October.
  9. So I’ve done quite a bit more research on the IMS topic. Seems the “best” setup of the 3 is in the mid-2005-2008 range. The actual change in vins in 05 are up to debate so call it 06-08. According to Jack Raby at Flat Six Innovations the IMS is mostly a non-issue in 06-08 M97’s. They have documented TWO failures in all the cars they have seen in these MY’s. The bigger issue, according to them, is bore scoring in the 5 and 6 cylinders. I find a ton of info on the IMS issue but not much on the bore issue. Any particular reason? Is it not as big of a concern?
  10. UPDATE - I went through Dension in Hungary (2 of the 3 "dealers" in the US would;t give me the time of day because I could;t prove I bought it from them). Anyway, Dension was very helpful and sent new .bin files to upgrade my unit along with instructions on how to do it. It worked and I can use my iPhone 7 with a 30-pin to lightening adapter. Not blue tooth but at least I get my music and stuff like Pandora.
  11. I recently bought my 2007 911 S and a previous owner had a Dension unit installed. My iPhone 7 will not recognize it and I wonder if 1. the Dension unit is outdated, 2. If so is there an update? and 3. Should I be looking at a newer, more up to date solution? I thought about getting a new head unit or I know there is a product that works in conjunction with the radio (on an FM frequency such as 88.8 or similar) and can connect to the phone via bluetooth for streaming music. If anyone could comment on the viability of Dension, a "fix" for mine or a better, more current solution I'd be grateful!
  12. 2007 Carerra S, when I raise the rear spoiler from the button on the dash it goes up fine but it is very loud. Is there a motor going perhaps? If not, does anyone have a fix? Or is this normal? Thanks!
  13. Wow, wish I’d known about the failure rate on 2007’s! Thanks for your help, I’ll look into it. Mine is a 6 speed but sounds like that doesn’t matter. I see the part is $600, what can I expect for labor?
  14. Thanks! I’ve wondered what those “upgrades” may do to performance down the road, such as the issues you mentioned. Is that IMS issue something I should worry about? I’ve read in many places that it was more prevalent on the 996 models and specifically on those that weren’t driven much (mine is an ‘07 with 52k miles). I also bought the car from a small dealer who only sells Porsche. He was a mechanic on them for years and said the issue is somewhat blown out of proportion.
  15. I will definitely do that! I’m in Chicago and I believe our local PCA chapter has a few driving courses. Curious on the upgrades though...could I see even half of their claims in regards to HP increases? Even at half, $10/1HP seems like a good deal. Or would exhaust give a better bump (and sound!)? Thanks for your response!
  16. I’m new to Porsche and the forums having just bought a 2007 Carrera S. I have found 2 upgrades on globalautoshop.com and I’m curious if anyone here can tell me if these are legit. Both products are B&B Performance, one is cold air intake and the other is a chip module. Total for both is $350 and they claim up to 10% and 12% HP gains respectively. Can I really get up to 78 extra HP for $350??
