  1. FWIW, I solved this problem by leaving it unlocked in the garage, at least until I get someone with a scanner to troubleshoot it I'll have to save my pennies and take to our local dealer.
  2. Thank for your reply. I truly appreciate it. I'm recovering from surgery and unable to drive for another couple weeks. However, i just went out to the garage and started the Boxster let run for a minute, shut it down, and locked the doors when i got out. The alarm didn't chirp at all. I know it normally does, but i can't recall if it is a single or double tone. I did see the red alarm light flashing from the front of the car. FWIW, i left it unlocked in the garage and the alarm didn't go off last night, but, then again, it has only gone off a couple times.
  3. My 2001 Boxster alarm Boxster alarm has gone off 3 times in the past week. The car is in the garage. Oddly, two nights in a row it went off at exactly 9:30. The other time it was around 11:30. I've had it for 5 years and it has never done it before. It has never gotten wet, always been garaged. It does have a voltage drain that I've been unable to diagnose, and i spent a couple hundred bucks to have the shop tell me it was because i wasn't making the key click when i shut it off. After diligently making sure the ignition clicked when I turned off the car and removed the key, which did NOT fix the battery drain, I bought a battery tender and just plug it in when the car is parked. I don't know if it makes a difference, but recently, the ignition quit clicking when I shut off the car and remove the key, no matter how much i wiggle it. Also, i always lock the doors, thinking it may have had something to do with the battery drain. Will leaving the car unlocked in the garage deactivate the alarm? I also saw something in another thread about locking the steering wheel, does that affect the alarm? I'm really ignorant when it comes to this car, which I'm sure shames my late father who was a certified Mercedes diesel mechanic. I would appreciate any wisdom anyone can share.
  4. I'd hate to drop this insurance company. I pay $9.90 a month, plus 1.6 cents a mile. I know I've exceeded posted speed limits numerous times in the Boxster, and have yet to be dinged. I've had the car and the monitoring device for 13 months now, and just dealing with the voltage drain for most of that time. I'm retired, and it isn't my every day car. I love it. I'm also afraid I don't have the skill to drive it in the manner it was actually meant to be driven. I'd be afraid I'd kill myself, or even worse, total the car. ☺️ I'm hoping the device is faulty, I've reached out to the insurance company to see if they'll send me another one. I hoped posting here, someone else would have stumbled across something similar.
  5. I have a 2001 Boxster. If I don't start it and let it run for a while every day, it won't start without charging the battery. I've replaced the ignition switch, after researching other threads on voltage drains. I've used a multimeter to check the ohms on each fuse, the only one that showed any was C3. I removed it, the drain was still present. My car insurance requires a device to be plugged into the OBD port, I unplugged it, and the amperage drain dropped from 400 milliamps to about 40. I waited two days without starting it, instead of the usual one, and it started. I know the sample size is small, but it's the first positive sign I've seen so far. I have a similar device in use on two other cars, and their batteries aren't impacted. Does anyone have a suggestion of what I should try next?
  6. I know this is an ancient thread, but I'm trying to track down a voltage drain. My multimeter is showing a 400 milliamp drain. I need to start pulling fuses to isolate the issue and need to fool the 2001 Boxster into thinking the door is closed so I can get to the fuses. Will the above method with the latch turning off the door light shut everything down as if the car is closed, like it is overnight when the battery is running down?
