  1. Hoping someone could shed some light on a intermittent squeal that my 2001 boxster has during deceleration. The squeal is there as I am slowing down with my foot off the brakes and off the accelerator. The sound comes in and out at about 60 km/h and then again at about 35-40km. While the noise isnt terribly disturbing it does sound almost exactly like a brake type squeal however im wondering if it is something else since it occurs without me pushing the brakes and also seems so come and go always at roughly the same speeds that I had mentioned above as the car is slowing down. I would love to be able to say if it is coming from the front, middle or rear of the car but its difficult to tell as I usually hear it when Im slowing down next to a curb or something else that can bounce the sound back to my ear. Hope someone can shed some light Thanks. Jeff.
  2. Still trying to locate my short to +5V... I see a potential source for the short in one of the other DME Connectors (2001 Boxster). In order to eliminate or rule-in this location I have to either cut the wire or disconnect that whole plug (III/C) at the DME. Is it okay or is it ill-advised to disconnect one of the harnesses from the DME and do a Key On/Engine Off so that I take a reading with a voltmeter? Thanks!
  3. For future reference... you can remove the "casing" off the connector... stuck a pin into the back of each wire I needed to test and voila.
  4. Still dealng with my 0453 code... tested the sensor and the wiring and it looks like I am getting voltage on the sensor return wire (should read 0 when sensor is not hooked up). Can anybody offer any tips or perhaps links on the best approach to locate a short to positive / short to voltage? Thanks.
  5. Still trying to locate the gremlin that is causing my P0453 code... one possible cause is Short to B+, so I want to test the circuit. Now I have a little more than layman's experience with electronics... but I am no Electrical Engineer. I've found the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor that I want to test in the schematics (2001 Boxster), but have run into a slight problem. I have no clue how to test it properly or where to tap into the circuit... I see in my Service Manual that both the ground and sensor return are on Connector "D" (per my Service Manual) of the DME. I'm assuming one would need a break-out box to test it properly and accurately... but that is not a luxury I have. Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Loren, you're a genius! Exactly what I was looking for  Not sure if you can shed some light on this but I went into the diagnosis section of the shop manual for code 99 and it isnt in there....they show a diagnosis for faults 98 and 100 but seem to have left 99 out. I was hoping this was gonna be my magic bullet but it seems that the quest moves on....Any ideas why its not there or am I missing something easy here??
  7. Just wondering....I have a DTC code that my OBD II reader has spit out (P0453)....however when I go into the diagnosis section of the work manual the DTC's all have numbers such as 34, 35, 36, etc etc etc.... Does anyone know how I get from my P0453 to the proper code in the manual?? Thanks. Jeff.
  8. "P0453 Tank Pressure Sensor – Above Limit Check wiring from pressure sensor to DME control module for short to B+. Repair wiring or replace sensor." Hi Loren, Your reply is very much appreciated. I have posted this message on a bunch of different forums and no one has even tried to touch it. :cursing: Just a few stupid questions.....where can I find the evap sensor in order to check the wiring and secondly before I go and start buying parts how can I rule out that it isnt the fuel pressure regulator?? Lastly, any idea what the voltage reading should be for the sensor or what the threshold voltage is that would trip my check engine light?? I plan on taking the car for a spin tomorrow and have my scan tool monitor rpm, fuel pressure and evap system pressure. Im hoping from this that I might see something that will point me in the right direction. Thanks again. Jeff.
  9. Hi, Shortly after filling-up my 2001 Boxster my check engine light came on. I hooked up my OBD reader and got DTC P0453- Evap System Pressure Sensor- Signal too high. I have cleared the code several times however it keeps on returning. I believe that the problem could either be the fuel pressure regulator or the evap system pressure sensor. I was hoping that someone might have some experience and could provide some advice how to determine which one it could be. I do have a scan tool which is able to record various engine parameters if anyone has any suggestions as to which ones i should be recording and what sort of output I should be looking for. Hope someone can help! Jeff.
