  1. Its okay I can put the tool kit to use one day, I'm sure. Thank you for the clarification!
  2. Photo reference: where I have installed camshaft locking device
  3. Hello fellow enthusiasts, I am attempting to perform an IMS upgrade on my boxster that has the 5 chain engine. Its a base model, engine is 2.5L. I have the tranny out. The engine is supported by a jack stand and mounted to the car. First, I purchased the EPS eternal fix kit. Its currently in the freezer along with the insertion piece. Secondly, I bought the kit pictured below in hopes it would help me in performing/completing the task. So, ive got the pin inserted into the pulley at TDC. I've installed the camshaft locking device closest to the flywheel area(rear? engine, drivers side) This kit only comes with one camshaft locking device. I tried installing it on the front(where pulleys are, passenger side) but the space is small for such tool. Will some one please tell me once and for all; is it necessary to lock both camshafts? And if NOT, then is it the front(pulley passenger side) or the rear(flywheel driver side) that needs to be locked via camshaft locking tool???? Third of all, can any of the other tools pictured aid in extracting the old IMSB? I definitely feel silly asking this. Lastly, please be kind. I am still learning! TIA
  4. I see. Now my problem is on sunset the site says this part does NOT fit my boxster. Meanwhile, on ecs it says it does... What do you think?
  5. 1998 manual transmission refresh! A bit of info: I am in the process of doing the ever-daunting swap for my 2.5 1997 Boxster w/ tiptronic, for the 5spd manual transmission out of a 3.2 1998 Boxster. My question is: I am looking at the guide sleeve assembly in the transmission. Its the sleeve that the throwout bearing slides on to. Porsche charges $79.34 (on sale) for a new one (mfg# 012141180B). I'm hoping to save $80 by cleaning up and reusing the current one(as long as its not damaged) but, replacing the seal. Does anyone know the part # for the rear round rubber seal that comes with the assembly brand new? And, is there anything else recommended I replace from the assembly if I use the old sleeve? TIA
  6. Hello all, I am needing some input on my current situation I apologize in advance if this isn't the right place to post this. I have 97 Tiptronic 2.5 Base model In Canada I have the transmission out of my 97 base Boxster. Car is on jack stands. The engine is being supported by a jack stand. I have the wheels off, and the CV axles are being held up with a piece of wire. I took the transmission out (blown front seal) so I can install a "new" transmission. Now, the option of putting my car on a lift has been presented...problem is my car is already half gutted, sitting on jack stands, at a separate location (from the lift). I want to transport my car to put on the lift. Question: do I have to fully reinstall the transmission before I put the wheels back on and transport it via flatbed towtruck? Or What is the least amount of reinstalling the old transmission that I would have to achieve before transporting? Pls be kind 🙂 and, much appreciative to any input! Thanks, A.
  7. I have the seats out, carpet, and center console. I also have taken out the tip tranny. I have a manual parts car. I began prepping that car for the removal of the engine and tranny, before I had to move it to storage. Basically, she sits with her wiring harness gathered neatly on top of the engine like a bow. We had to move her with a trailer, so she's together (as far as the axles and cables). It might be foolish, but it's either invest my time in the parts I already have; or dish out the cash for replacement tip parts. Doomed?
  8. I have a 97' tip Boxster with a blown front seal and unfortunately, I broke the clutch basket on the axle while trying to remove it from the case (**** YouTube tutorials, didn't think it through). I was planning on replacing the bushing and seal with the oversized one and getting my oil pump machined so that the bushing would fit.... But now I have broken even more parts in my attempts to fix it. SO! I have a parts car that is a 98' manual Boxster. How realistic is a conversion from tip to manual? I would be doing it with the help of a few friends.
  9. I have a 97 tiptronic non turbo boxster. I blew my front seal so I need to rebuild my tranny. I just need to know what the parts numbers are for the bushing and seal.... I cant seem to find em and want to make sure I order the right parts. I heard you can actually order a larger bearing and seal and then machine out the tranny where it goes into and in turn avoid this sort of issue for much longer.. if that helps identify what im needing here im sorry im sort of lacking in the lingo im still learning and will update with a better description once i can go over it again with the boyfriend.
