Hi I drive a Boxster S 987.2 (2010), with the 9A1 engine, the 3.4L DFI. Earlier this year the AC compressor broke (Denso variable displacement compressor). The AC workshop who changed it were very careful to flush the system and replace filters etc to make sure to get rid of any debrief. In August, at a hot (30 deg C/ 90 deg F) Track Day, the compressor broke AGAIN. It's a manual car, and I guess my driving style is "inspired", i.e. I go to max rpm limit at every shift at Track Days. An I had the AC on at low temp all day. 1) Has anybody out there experienced similar AC compressor breakdowns on the 9A1 engine? If so, did you identify a root cause? 2) At the older M96 engine up to 2008, I know many people install underdrive crankshaft pulleys to slow down the AC compressor speed (and the power steering pump speed). But I find no such underdrive pulleys for the 9A1 engine (except RSS kit that eliminates the AC). Not needed, or not feasible for the 9A1? Any hints? BR/ Kent Smith (Sweden)
Hi I have a 2010 manual 987-2 with the 3,4L direct injection engine and electronic throttle. I find the throttle response sluggish (for a sports car). That "Sport" button can be retrofitted .... to access a more aggressive throttle map than the standard maps. Question to you guys who have that Sport button on 987-2 ... how to you perceive the impact of pressing the button? "Big" or "small" difference? Does it change response only when driving, or also when standing still (and revving from idle?) BR/ Kent Smith (Sweden)
