  1. Backstory - 2006 Cayman S. 63k miles.  GT3 TB, IPD plenum, AASCO lightweight flywheel, Sachs spring clutch, Numeric shifter and cables.  Clutch and flywheel have around 500 miles on them.

Car is primarily autox and hill climb car.   We were autoxing this weekend -  after the last couple of runs of the day, the transmission began making considerable rattling noise while idling in neutral with the clutch pedal out.  The noise goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed.  I can't hear any noise when driving the car and it shifts and runs fine.

My co driver (my son) says that he was shifting from 1 to 2 during a launch and let the clutch out prior to having second gear all the way in and the tranny made a "funny noise" when he did so.

Any ideas?  Should I pull the tranny now and send it off for a specialist to look at, drive the car for awhile and see what happens?  Any other diagnosis I should do?
