  1. The bypass switch is an option for both 05 and 06 cars. Its a key operated switch in on the passenger side dash to disable the passenger airbag.  It seems that some earlier cars didn't come with the light to notify when it was deactivated.  The newer cars seem to have the light, even if they have the deactivation switch or not.  The cars that didn't come with the light had to have the center console removed where on the backside there was a cutout for installation of the light.

    I believe the '06 Boxster and 911 come standard with a weight sensor in the passenger seat that will turn off the passenger airbag if the weight is less than 100 lbs, or something like that. I have not seen anything from Porsche on this yet but my dealer has been testing it and this is the story from him.

  2. Does anyone know when Porsche plans Cayenne updates?  I read somewhere there will be a facelift for 2007 (?2006?), followed by an all-new model in several years.  I can't remember where I saw it.  Does anyone know?  i am considering ordering a Cayenne S, or perhaps a new ML-500.

    There will be a facelift for model year 2007, which will probably be available by July 2006. The front of the car, especially the headlights, will look noticeably different, and there will be some styling changes to the rear as well.

    Yes.

    The "N" spec, Porsche approved tires have special rubber compound developed just for Porsche. Loren is saying that these special, soft rubber compound tires may ride better and have better grip than other tires but they also have a shorter life.

  4. This morning I was trying to rewire my V1.  I found the best spot for the remote display is right in the ash tray.  When the tray open, the display will pop up and face right at you.  Close the tray and the display is completely hidden.  Then I tried to get the RJ12 wire from behind the PCM to the ash tray.  I can't get behind the ash tray draw.  So I endup put the display back to its original location.  If anyone knows how to take to ash tray draw, the side panel of the PCM, or the lower panel of the steering column out, putting the wire to the ash tray should be quite simple.

    I've had my V-1 remote display located on the outside of the ashtray for several months now. My thinking was the same as yours regarding concealment. My wire is routed under the tray.

    BUT, I do not now recommend this location. It seemed like a good idea, but in practice, it is way too low. When it goes off I have to take my eyes from the road to see the arrows. If I hesitate for a second, until I'm comfortable glancing down, the arrows are often gone by then and I have no idea of the radar direction. I am thinking of relocating above the steering column.

  5. I have heard they will not. The V6 front brakes are supposedly smaller which allows for the 17" wheel. The rear brakes are not an issue and the 17" wheels should fit all models at the rear.

    I imagine this is information you already know. I am curious as well to know if they will fit. Even if they do fit, there may be some other issue involved, brake cooling or something.

  6. It's fascinating! The X-5 4.4 shifts well but the 4.6 does not. It's hard to get a theory going that's consistent with everyone's comments. I do think there is something to the idea that the high powered V8's will move to an economy shift mapping fairly rapidly to try and make their mileage figures as good as possible. I would concede that the Cayenne S would have an EPA mileage figure 2-3 mpg lower if it used the same shift mapping as my X-5 3.0.

  7. I still have an X-5, the 3.0, and I have a new Cayenne S. I completely agree with you about the shifting. The BMW does a much better job. Your descriptions are accurate. There is a DME update for the Cayenne but it is not yet a complete cure. I have read that VW handled the transmission development for the Cayenne/Touareg. Other VW products are reported to have similar shift patterns so this sounds plausible. Hoprfully Porsche will jave a complete fix soon.
