  1. Thanks for that tip TP. I want to move the switches because they're not easily accessible. It would be a whole lot better if the switches were located where the cab blanks are in the console between the seats. I imagine it's only a matter of extending the wires and I can't believe routing them will be too difficult a job. I thought it was an obvious refinement and figured somebody on RennTech must have done it at some time.
  2. That's positive; thanks. I had an idea that Tool Pants had posted something about this, but perhaps I'm wrong (can't find anything). I need to know where to start in order to go about removing the relevant bits of fascia.
  3. I have it in mind to relocate the switches for the rear wiper and demist from the dashboard centre console to the blanks between the seats (996 coupé) and believe there must be something on RennTech about it, but no way can I find anything. I guess I must be asking the wrong questions in the Search function. So, to get me out of this jam, can anybody direct me to the post which discusses it or, if nothing has been posted yet, explain to me what I need to do?

  6. Definitely replace all of them. It's not a big job, but a fiddly one, and coil packs aren't too expensive. Thanks thats what I decided to do.. They're only $40 bucks apiece.. Here (UK) they're the equivalent of US$50 each (independently sourced) and I described that as not "too expensive". Given the fact that replacing the coil packs is a fiddle, it's a no-brainer. Do the plugs at the same time.

  8. Thanks for that. As it happens, both keys were replaced with the ACU, and the problem isn't new (it happened before replacing the ACU), so trying the other key "can't" be the solution. Any more ideas out there?
  9. Key 2? FYI, the alarm control unit was replaced I am not expecting it to be that (at least, not in terms of a fault).
  10. Here's the situation. Driving along, sun roof open, perhaps windows open too. Suddenly, for not obvious reason, everything closes. Happens without any warning and without any immediately apparent pattern (so, quite a lot of the time, everything's fine). It's been going on for a few months and it seems that the circumstances when it's most likely to happen are when descelerating or as a result of going over a bump in the road (both at about the 30 mph mark). So I wondered if it might have anything to do with a tiilt sensor somewhere not behaving as it should. Anybody had an experience of this or able to provide some suggestions as to where the problem might lie?
  11. Tried your suggestion but it didn't restore the function. However, using a slightly different procedure, managed to resolve the problem. Here's the procedure:- In car, doors closed (don't know if that's really relevant but, if it aint broke, etc.), ignition on. Slightly lower window (only a few inches), then raise window to the top and - instead of holding it there for x seconds - hold it only until the blockage detection function switches off the window motor (when it switches off there's a soft but audible click). Release button. Repeat for other window. Job done, one-touch on both windows works. Thanks for the input from everybody - got there in the end!
  12. Loren - Thanks for that. I did try searching for it, but came up with loads of posts which weren't anything to do with what I was looking for; perhaps I worded my enquiry inappropriately. However, thanks again. I'll give it a go.
  13. The one-touch window function (996 C2) isn't working. I am wondering whether there's anything which needs to be done to re-programme the function? The reason for asking is because after disconnecting the battery on an Audi, in order to reinstate the one-touch function, it's necessary to follow a specific procedure. Since the battery's been out of the Porsche a few times recently it occurred to me that something similar may be required. Anybody know anything about this?
  14. This sounds pretty much the problem I had recently which involved the solenoid for cam bank 2. Although there was a chance it could have been a sticky solenoid (which might have corrected itself) in the end it turned out to be a bit more than that. The cause of the problem was a corroded wire. Unfortunately the corrosion was at the point where it met with the solenoid housing so the only solution was to replace the solenoid (there was no possibility of repairing the damage to the wire/connection). Replacing the solenoid can be done without removing the engine but, as Loren intimated, it's a fiddle. However, somebody who's competent, understands the problem and has done it before (and has small hands!) will be able to accomplish the job.
