  1. They replaced a left bank sensor. The light is back on, and last time it scanned P0133 and 0153. Thanks a ton for any help!
  2. I went with the Cleansweep, and added amps. All works fine, and no hiss or whine from the engine.
  3. Mates, I have a 2000 Boxster S, with an aftermarket breather. At 30K plus miles, we had some maintenance done. The check engine light was coming on, they replaced an O2 sensor, and some plug wires that were leaking oil. Two weeks later, check engine light is back on, and showing a slow data problem in the other O2 sensor. Is anyone familiar with this problem? Before you ask, i had the service done at a reputable Porsche mechanic, not a dealer shop. Thanks in advance.
  4. Listmates, I am enamored with the TA and other sideskirts. Can someone tell me where they mount? Do they just tape on over the bodywork? Sorry for the unreasonably dumb question!
  5. With the help of a dremel tool, I bent some tin and made a bracket that slid under the frame on the windshield. It doesn't bounce much, and is above the mirror.
  6. Install was not difficult, but you have to be prepared to drill holes in your car. Just a couple. Do the main assembly indoors, it is much easier. Price- i paid 100$ on ebay, but they are typically about $250 if memory serves. I haven't had mine long enough to clean it, but on past vehicles, Diesel pickups and such, it was about 20K miles. Not much to the cleaning, either.

  8. Great advice to assemble in the house! I took my time for once, and did the main assembly well before taking anything out of the car. First drive- power is much smoother in the low end. Used to feel like the car came alive at about 4000 rpm, now is "hot" all the way from take off to high end shift! Don't know if there is more power as the KN folks say there should be, but the sound is more aggressive, and the delivery is better. Will see about those CELs...

  10. Mates, My 996 (2003) runs fine. Temp guage shows 180 or so. But when I turn it off, i smell something hot by the tires, and the fan never kicks on. Is this normal? ( i know, smells hot is nondescript.) Thanks.
  11. Listmates, I have installed some carbon fiber parts on my 996 cab. How do i keep them from turning yellow- other than keeping the car in the garage, i mean.
  12. i went from a Boxster S to a 996 Cab. The Box was easier and more fun to drive. the 996 is more comfortable, powerful, and newer, so more luxurious. I have yet to become driver enough to get the kind of performance in the curvies out of the 996 that I got out of the 986, but someday... the 996 does get more looks. But as my son said when i told him that people said the Box was a girlie car- "At least it is a Porsche." Poor mans or not, it is a different class of vehicle.
  13. I ordered one of these today for my 03 C2. In the installation instructions, it says not to drive in harsh or inclement weather unless you return to the stock airbox... WTF?!?!?! Anyone had any problems in the rain with a K&N on a 996? I typically drive an SUV when i know the bad weather is coming, but would hate to think that the car wash or a sudden downpour will leave me stranded!

  15. I agree on the K40. I found one on a used 996 that I bought. If it weren't for the cost to remove it, it would be gone. I currently have the Escort with Z shifters. I put all three laser heads up front, as no one ever gets hit in the rear with Laser! If someone is shooting rear plates, unless you are the only car on the road, you should pick it up from your detector. I will let you know if i am wrong, after i pay my ticket. I had an installed Bel RX75 on my Boxster, and two heads on laser up front was enough to save my bacon several times. Laser Veil also gets good reviews, but I wouldn't want it on my headlights- license plate only for me.
  16. I thought it was just me! I leave my car unlocked in the garage, and when i open the door, it starts ticking. I figured it was the sensor on the infrared letting me know that i was about to get zonked or something.
  17. To Quote Scooby Doo- Rotsa Ruck! I was told that you had to order a key directly from the dealer, and give proof of ownership. It comes to you already cut. Dealer told me you can't get the key blank for the new key cut any other way. THEN you have to go to the dealer and have the key programmed, along with the remote. Unprogrammed key won't start the car, but will set off alarm in the parking lot! :) I have a friend at the part's department, and still spent $400 for the total package- key, two button remote and programming. One dealer said $130 for programming, the other did it for $70. This was for my 03 Carerra, not the Boxster, by the way. Not that it matters, but just in case...
  18. I popped mine out, but i think you have to remove the bottom cubby before you can get the top one out- Then they go back in together to link up. I know that is vague, but it was a simple process once i figured it out!
  19. How did it turn out? I have a 99 with the CDR-220, which contains auxiliary input connections, line-out connections and has the ability to switch between the nonlinear factory setting and linear output. I have an iPod connected to my auxiliary input and use the line out for my subwoofer. Whenever I get around to it, I'm going to hook up a high-end amp to the line out connections to drive my aftermarket MB Quart speakers. For the CDR-210/220 units, a cleansweep provides no advantage, I confirmed this with JL Audio tech support. The only thing the Cleansweep really does is convert a nonlinear factory stereo output to a linear output, and provide the ability to take input from a secondary device (like your iPod). Unfortunately with a cleansweep, you can only use two channels so you no longer have front to rear fade capability. I'm not sure what type of head unit you have, so I can't say if you had the same options as the older Becker CDR series did. So far, so good. I hooked the front speakers, dash and door, to one channel, and the back to the other. I used a Boston Acoustic speaker crossover to send the lows to the door and the highs to the dash, giving me two tweeters up there, in effect. Sounds fine for now, and if i want to change later, i can put the Boston Acoustic speakers in. No plans for that right now, as the music sounds fine. The fade works "okay". Cleansweep wants me to quit using my radio volume knob, and just use theirs, leaving my stock radio at the point they set on install. I couldn't do it! I max the Cleansweep audio, and use the radio knob for volume control. (on the ipod hookup, you have to use the Cleansweep knob, but i haven't tried it yet.) Yes, I lose some of the sound quality that way, but honestly, with the top down, I am not getting a symphony hall sound anyway! I just needed more volume. I have used Quart speakers in the past, but they are now owned by Rockford Fosgate, and my installer said they aren't as good anymore. FoCal are the brand they sell. I have premium Porsche speaker package, and I haven't changed speakers yet. Again, the sound is okay, and with the top down, there is some sound quality loss no matter what speakers, IMHO.
  20. You cannot wire in around the MOST system! It is tied to the alarm and ECU, I believe. Changing the stereo will result in socks gettin mismatched in your drawers, and milk expiring before the date on the carton. Don't do it!
  21. I echo the above. Getting rid of the MOST unit is way troublesome. Try the JL Cleansweep unit. About two hundred bucks cheaper than the Denison ICE unit to add an iPod. Down side is that it makes you control the iPod at the iPod, not at the car stereo. Upside is that it goes in after the OEM amp and you can then power your system with an aftermarket amp. So, you have the factory look with better sound and performance.
  22. Or see if the dealership that you bought the car will sell you an extended warranty. Bought it in Chicago, from an ebay sale. Love the car and the deal though.
  23. I just stick the nozzle on my air hose in there and give it a couple blasts. Good luck! Where do you put the air hose, and do you have to pull the wheel/drain cover to make this work? Thanks!
  24. Mates, I have a 2003 911, with under 19K miles, and less than two weeks left under warranty. At speed, between 70 and 90 lets say, the car has a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel, seat and the car generally. This is over roads that may not be smooth, but never gave me a bit of problem in my 00 boxster. Should I go to the dealer for a check over, or to a good tire store for a front end alignment/balance? Hate to bother the dealer for non warranty stuff, especially with the one week wait time to get in! Thanks in advance for you input!
  25. Mates, I am having my JL Clean Sweep installed tomorrow, and hope i will be able to run the iPod through it. Am also having the speakers upgraged, and an amp installed- no fun going 90 without tunes and the top down! Short, uninteresting history- i had a boxster, took out the factory stuff and put in Alpine and amps and new speakers. Sounds great, except for the engine whine occasionally. In my 03 911, I can't pull the head unit. I tried the Harmon/Kardon Drive+play. It whined like a bratty two year old! I only had it in one day, and then took it out. Does the Clean Sweep match well with our systems? Thanks!
