  1. Kevin, I’ve followed your instructions on programming the cluster eprom. I’ve read the eprom off a spare cluster but what I got doesn’t look right,  no bytes showing vin. I think the binary code is corrupted. If you have it, can you send me a valid binary file for the new cluster chip, 93c86, on a 2002 Boxster s, manual shift. Maybe you know where to look for one. I’m hesitant to remove the original cluster and work with it. The original has an error reading oil level and I don’t want to risk creating more problems.

    thanks

Here's the coding from a Carrera cluster with the mileage and VIN from my Boxster.  Please note that this is for the early style cluster that was in my 2000 Boxster.

Before you try to use it, please confirm that you have an early-style cluster in your car.  I'm not sure if a 2002 cluster has the LED's or the LCD displays.  If it has the LED's it is a newer-style cluster and the programming is different.  Unfortunately, I don't have a file for the newer cluster.

The document I attached attempts to explain the differences.

      Good luck with your project.

What about contacting Shaun Merriman who you acknowledged in your article? I may have found him on Facebook and sent a message. Don’t know if he’s the right Shaun.

  2. I have a used replacement instrument cluster for my 2002 Boxster s, manual transmission. It will replace the original that has an error reading oil level. I’ve read the eprom, 93c86, from the replacement, but the code doesn’t look right. I would like to start with a valid binary file for the eprom that I can edit to match the Auto’s vin. Does anyone have a copy of the binary file they’re willing to share or know where I can download one?
  3. I believe the issue is with the latch microswitch. This workaround solved the problem. I modified a spare control relay to bypass the latch and brake microswitch. With these modifications the top motor is directly controlled with the dashboard button. With this mod the windows don't automatically drop when the latch is open so I have to lower them. Pin 15, brake, is grounded with a jumper wire internally and by bending pin 14, top latch, onto it the latch microswitch is bypassed. Bending pin 11 stops the control signal to the power windows and pin 18 to the speedo.
  4. update: 2 hours later- dead again just sitting in driveway
  5. update: after sitting for 2 days in my driveway with a dead top, this morning it suddenly started working. I have no.ideas of what could be wrong.
  6. For some time I've had intermittent problems with the top not working. It will work and suddenly go completely dead. It's gotten stuck in both the open and closed position. No sound at all when pressing the dashboard button. The emergency brake light works. The windows drop when I unlatch the top. I've swapped relays and tried one with the brake override, but when it's dead nothing works. I plan on measuring the filter pin voltages when someone can let me know what voltages apply to the PIN numbers. Any other suggestions would be useful. I think the emergency brake microswitch is eliminated because the dash light works. The two switches at the overhead latch would appear to be ok since the windows drop and it gets stuck in both the open and closed positions. I've run out of ideas.
