Anyone who has followed the engine failures knows that is is most often an intermix of coolant and oil caused by a failed sleeve. The sleeve has either cracked, broken or slipped causing coolant to enter the combustion chamber. This was due to porosity in the very expensive cast aluminum engine cases using a new cylinder manufacturing process whereby the cylinder itself was porous aluminum like a sponge and the pores were filled with a hard ceramic type alloy. This was called Lockasil. If defective cases were found in production, they were salvaged rather than scrapped by having a sleeve fitted most likely of Mehanite or cast iron and I would assume a plated Nicasil bore.
In my opinion, if you received a patched and salvaged case in your Porsche, whether buying new or used, you were getting short changed by the factory. You were paying a price for a product featuring a new and very expensive technology used in the manufacture of the motors promising near zero wear after over 100K miles of use and receiving something other than what was advertised.
The good news is the cars featured a 4 year warrenty and any catistrophic failures were covered usually without question. Many failures beyond the warrenty period were also covered even for other than the original purchaser. Many were covered on an individual case by case basis with varying degrees covered by Manufacturer/Dealer and owner. If you bought the car a year or more after the factory warrenty had expired and were the 2nd or 3rd owner when the engine failed, you would be extremley disappointed but probably could not hold Porsche legaly responsable.
So knowing the above, who will be the plaintiff? The guy who had a motor put in for free under the warrenty? The guy who had to pay labor for a "Goodwilled" motor? The guy who is the 3rd owner and the factory 4 year warrenty had expired years ago?
Good point, I think for anyone trying to follow suit, It will take a huge law firm with very big cojones to go after Porsche for defective manufacturing, specillially when most or all the engines are swapped for a new or rebuilt unit by the same manufacturer. It will be hard to really find the "real" issue and pinpoint the liability to the manufacturer additionally a very good translator will be necessary.
I wonder how many of the new/remanufacture engines are showing the same problem, now that would be real good info to share at least at this forum level to substantiate the failure rate of a OE poweplant and a new/rebuilt exchange.

Call Otto at the collection, I just paid a litle more for a water pump, but this guy seems to be a nice guy, maybe he will accept parts from a authorized delaer, he may want a copy of the invoice.

Well, Izzy maybe in Miami we all suffer from dollaritis, where the value of the dollar is half than anywhere else in the nation, I went to Vertex and they want $800.00 plus tax, Promotive wants $750.00 plus tax, and the collection $1,000 bucks, I guess I ma going to pay the 1K and enjoy the plush mats, free rental and as many expressos as I can indulge for the next day or so, while I test drive 997 turbo's, 997 S and maybe a nice red Scaglietti.

Went to the dealer this morning for a second opinion, again they said that a I need a new waterpump, The collection Porsche quoted me 5 hrs work plus parts, for a grand total of $1050.00 plus tax, another independant quoted me $800.00 plus tax, I am thinking going with the dealer, at least I know I have a warranty on the work if something related happens. What you guys think.

This morning I drove my 99 C2 to my office and when I parked the car I notice water dripping from below, after checking closer it seems coolant is leaking from a water hose/water pump location under the car, a friend told me that I need to replace the water pump, cost & parts quoted $700.00
Does this sounds right and is the water pump replacement hard to do on a Carrera.

this is a somwhat common problem with 996 motor.
crankshaft gone back. according to someone else had the same problem before, motor sounds like a coins in the dryer....
new motor from porsche is the best way to go, at least, in US. i just heard PCNA increased the price on rebuilded motor dramaticlly. is it true?
where u get your new motor from? thanks
I have the coins noise coming from the transmission area for quite sometime now, maybe about 5 months, it's that the sound you are talking about.

I have the schnell and it works just fine, a litle noisy when shifting from 4th to 5th, other than that for the price is a very good product, I got mine from Vertex Auto nice people.

If you want more power from a stock 996 C2, you should consider Exhaust and intake, other than that sell your car and get a turbo or GT2- GT3.

MY99 had some clutch spring problems - so if the noise is coming from under the dash (rather than the rear of the car) then the problem is likely a pedal/clutch spring problem. There are a couple of TSBs on this problem.
If the noise is a creaking noise from the transmission bell housing then they likely did not replace your clutch release arm when they changed your clutch. Some MY99 cars had bad clutch release arms - there is a TSB on this also.

I am recently having a weird clutch noise, it happens when I start to release the clutch pedal, it feels like metal on metal scratching together, it only happens when I let the pedal engage the clutch slowly, the clutch works perfect there is no slippage or any other problems.
Anyone with opinions. Clutch was replaced 20,000 miles ago, car has now 66,000 miles

I had S02 Pole Position, they were good, now I swithched to Bridgestone Potenza RE090, they are even better and noise is extremely low

I was quoted a brand new ROW 030 with sway bars , shocks and springs for $975.00, they say I will lower the car 10mm. What do you guys think

Seems like the ROW 030 is the best set up for street use, does the car height is affected at all, were can I buy this system other than a Porsche delaer.

I Have H&R Sport springs with OEM shocks, the ride is hard and bouncy, I like to know some factual opinions in the following coilover shocks
H&R Coilovers , PSS9 Bilstein, or any other system
I want to change my current set up ASAP, my goal is to have a good daily drive more than a track car.
Any help will be fantastic.

Not uncommon.
Repair for RMS should be closer to $1,000 though.
While you are there expending money, check your clutch, flywheel for damage and repace it if necessary, it will save you some more money later. Is sad that you have a RMS bad, it is common to say the least on 996 cars.

I purchased a 99 C2 a few months ago in Houston from a dealer, The car has some records but not all of them, the car was serviced at Momentum POrsche of Houston, I called them to get copies of the services performed and they said I can not get any records due to liability issues with the dealer, is this guy B.S. me or what.

That's bad man, after 69,000 miles, it should be a very rare event to have an engine go bad like that. Question how many, well that won't work, anyway, I have 65,000 miles on my car, I ask anyway, how many forum members have this kind of problem after driving the car for 60K + miles. This is not a survey just a quick check up.

I am running Bridgestone tires RE050 A Pole position , the pressure I run is 32 front and 34 rear, I have a lower suspension by using HR springs, so far wear and ride is much better than higher pressures, I don't know how long they will last bt my last set of Potenza S02 were shot after 15,000 miles, so far I have driven the 050 over 8,000 miles and they look great.
