  1. This is the situation behind 986, 996.........a bodyshop can fill (after you remove the two extensions).....replacement bumpers are ROW and do not have cut-out (yet).
  2. Take MyFast's advice on jacking.........or search rennlist or sixspeed.......many threads........personally I take the whole rear up using the engine.......anyway, the body is so stiff you can take the back left up high enough to get jack stand under front right. Personally I would not use OE DLs. You want em easily adjustable in the new sways.......you want adjustable DLs (to accomodate corner balancing, etc)........TRG or SCarGo or others have good adjustable DLs. On the comment about using ..."center holes to relieve stress on the factory drop links"....... I'm probably misunderstanding you there.......but you do not want the DLs carrying any load when she's sitting (again, why you adjust DLs).......and obviously part of the reason for going to 'adjustable' anti-sway bars is so that you can select the setting (1,2,or 3) both in the front & in the back, that suits your driving requirements (not that takes stress off a DL).
  3. 2002 3.6........never tracked, pampered........dead. Course, it wouldn't have been a big deal (for the owner) if it had been on warranty..........wasn't.
  4. These are the same?.........or have dif part #s and are not interchangable.
  5. Thankyou......is there any particular sesignation if the motor is a reman rather than new?
  6. With timing chain failure on my 02......replacement engine is on the way. I plan to run into the shop and take a few pics before she goes in. Can someone tell me where to look for the serial number.........and also, what are the ways to tell whether it is a reman or a new.
  7. Checking back.........I was able to get the door panal apart using DIY on P-Car.com........what a fun job that is........had to cut the plastic seal in order to reach in and spray a hi-tech lube way over at the latch mech...very difficult to get to).........she's working right now & may have a shop visit.
  8. Golly........seems like this happened to me in a different life (maybe 944 or 986).....but, anyway, the only way I can get the passenger door open is from inside..........the little lever on the outside handle is inopperative (ie loose & non functional). Unfortunately I believe the passenger door is presently in the 'locked' mode........(this is a late 95 with the Drive Block system and key-fob activator).........so the result is a very-very erratic security system....that's another issue  ........but mainly I was trying to see if anyone recalled and user accessable parts to that door latch & it's linkage.............TIA.
  9. Darn M96 engines. The 'pop' was the timing chain.........we are finding pieces of same.........1,2,3 left cam shaft not turning. I'd say at 37K and 11months out of warranty I'm shopping for an engine. :cursing:
  10. You really want feedback?.........too low of offset, both front & rear..........IMHO offset should always place the rim & sidewall inside the top of the wheel arch or fender line....example.
  11. Thanks Loren.......with the fellas at Kelly Moss Motorsports we're tracking more in the direction of a mechanical explanation.......probably check cylinder by cylinder, maybe pull that valve cover.......I'll update if we come across any other ideas or solutions. I could add, for what it's worth......I had mentioned 'the plugs are fine'.......well they are now cause we replaced them, but they were badly fouled.....and that had only taken 4 months and 3,000 miles (when they were last replaced).......puzzling. Thanks again
  12. OK.....we've been trying trouble shoot this over this past week....any thoughts very welcome. O2 C4 Cab......well maintained, excellent condition......my wife was driving last week and heard a 'pop' and car died in the middle of the street. I arrived and was able to fire her up for a minute....very rough, like she's on 3 cylinders.....but got her off the road. My code reader only showed a PO343 code. Shop looked at that cam position sensor, thought good reason to replace and did.....but she's still not firing on the 1-3 bank side......plugs are good...nothing else jumps out. Thoughts we have at this point are variable valve timing or valve lift control........but golly, from a car that's been running perfect it's hard to understand what it is that would come up and bite me like this. Here she is when she was able to get around on all 6 :)
  13. I wouldn't get too hung up on aero impact unless you will be doing alot well north of 100mph.......personally I'd say they are more about bling and just what you want the car to look like (standing still). Personally I've never cared much for 'moving' rear wings on Pcars......if I added a wing I would disable or remove the 'mover'. Good luck to ya.......enjoy your car!
  14. Yep..........now I'm seeing the thread http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=493 .........and at least one of the people there reported some of my symptoms....so probably a fair bet.....interesting how many things that switch can affect (in strange ways). I have to re-read that thread ........will see if I can locate a 4A0 905 849 B* from an Audi dealer.
  15. Any thought on this appreciated. I see no blown fuses on the main panel (driver footwell) but last night I limped home (in the dark) with no headlights or fog lights. Running lights work fine as do turn & brake. Also.............no AC......no 'star' indicator on dash when AC engaged........no circulation fan for AC or air........and the display for fan speed does some 'interesting' things. It may be just my imagination but the ignition switch seems to have a different 'feel' when turning or releasing key......trying to remember yrs ago when I had an ignition switch issue on the Box. Anyway.........any thoughts or ideas much appreciated..........thanks guys.
  16. For the rear. Well, of course you would want to put them all around. Great R compound tire.....if you have wheels for the track or autocross this is certainly a tire many people use on the weekends for that. The are not a good 'daily' (IMHO). They're sticky of course so they'll track gravel into your garage, not 'great' in the wet, and at highway speed you have to keep your pressure up or you'll go through them. You asked how they handle....excellent....I run em the 993 for autocross and track em on the Turbo.....both have significantly modded suspensions......when the cups get heated up, the result is the car feels like it's on rails.
  17. Thanks for the follow Loren. Guess it's possible but not a scratch......there was bodu work back there last year, may have never been on perfectly correct, now just gave. Those tabs are actually on the ette cover and push through slot holes in the bumper cover and then into slot holes in this free floating rectangle on the inside of the bumper cover (that does all the holding). I'm taking the bumper off....will share a pic in the process.............thanks again.
  18. Well the good thing is it didn't fall off while motoring down the road. The right cover almost fell off while waxing the car in my garage tonight......wife's 02 C4 cab. Correct me if I'm wrong, the 02-on ettes simply snap into a rectangular piece that sits on the inside of the main bumper....(unlike pre-02 that bolt like 986)......and that rectangular piece unfortunately is unattached (other than it's positioned on the other side of the bumper). Appears the 02-on ettes are pushed into this piece 'before' the bumper is installed on the car........hence I'm in for rear bumper removal tomarrow. Anyone that can tell me I'm wrong & save me the trouble...great....otherwise I see the drawing of rear bumper attach points Loren was good enough to post in a thread last July....will use that & go for it. TIA
  19. Jeans an *** but your a guy who has an S and never drives it, thinking a truck might get more 'use'. OK.....I'll play along......was there a particular reason you bought the S?.......hey, if it wasn't to drive, then no doubt about it.....trade it off. Personally I'm not big on having this stuff in the garage to walk by, sorry. Don't worry, you won't be sick about the deal.......(unless you're sick right now, that you aren't driving it). My apologies if there is some financial or physical reason the car isn't getting driven. But on the 'life is short' kick..........some of us take that to the bank.........we fricken enjoy 'driving' so much, we drive em every day to work, haul dogs in em, take em on trips, throw winter tires & wheel on em so we can practice autocrossing in January (and have a blast).....even if we are 6'2" Whatever pulls your chain. If you are fortunate enough to be able to have a Porsche for a truck, you're a lucky guy. and if you can enjoy driving it, more power to ya. Good luck with your choice.
  20. Correct........if I recall the good Dr was quoted (on the subject of weight distribution & center of gravity)........that the best place for it....... was below the pavement.
  21. Ditto on the transmission / differential fluid. This car is such low miles...........but 5-6 year old I think I'd be flushing that 'lifetime' coolent also. These's still people that do it every couple years. Spring I always get alignment checked, on the Pcars anyway......tires are too expensive.
  22. This car will be a hoot...........and I'd take that rear end view to the 997 Turbo......any day of the week
  23. Wow...........cool, did anyone else know there was 4 options? (or that there were screws under the door :lightbulb: )........on reseting the simple 'up limet or stop'.......pretty sure that's covered in your manual.........full down, then hold switch for up as she goes all the way & continue to hold for a sec or 2. Am I anywhere near right on that Loren :D ?..........and was that the 1 of 4 you were after?
