  1. Does anybody have a recommendation for a good shop in the San Jose - Palo Alto area to do front and rear brakes at a reasonable price? The Porsche dealer wants $2,000 just for front brakes at 78,000 miles. Thanks for your help
  2. I need to get my rear window stitched on my 2000 cab. Looking for a referral in San Jose, CA / Bay Area. Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance
  3. Thought I share this with you. My Key fob stopped unlocking/locking my 996 convertibles doors + alarm. The light on the key still flashed but it did not do anything. Solution: I locked the door by inserting the key and then pushed the lock/unlock button (key still in) and my key started working again. Hope it helps someone.
  4. I know its maybe a little too far south - I used them and they are really excellent: http://www.bodystylebycecil.com
  5. I considered buying them from Becker - pretty pricey. (price is per knob) Came across a DYI for coating the knobs with plastic and decided to give it a try - total cost ~ $6.50 - no brainer at that price. Result is excellent - like new knobs - I am german and very picky. Here is the link: http://www.pedrosgarage.com/Site_3/Fix_Sticky_Radio_Buttons.html
  6. Same problem here on a 2000 996 CAB. It returns to its programed position when I press the memory 1/2 button. But after reverse tilt it only comes up about 75%. Have researched it but did not find a solution.
  7. Before I change out hardware I wanted to know if there is any hidden programming trick. It looks like the mirror is always resetting to a "neutral" position" just not exactly to the position programed in memory 1,2 or 3. Any insight is appreciated.
  8. I have a 2001 996 convertible with memory seats. Putting it in reverse swivels down the passenger mirror - exactly what I want. However when I put it in forward, it returns to a position which seems to be independent of memory 1,2 or 3. If I press one of the memory buttons the mirror goes to the programed position. Anybody figured out how to make the passenger mirror go back to a position programed in memory 1,2 or 3 ?????
  9. I have bought the Griffin Technology Autopilot cable for my 99' C2 convertible. It does not seat properly in the cigarrette lighter plug - floating around. I believe the older cars had somewhat looser lighter sokets - anybody encountered this?
  10. I use 76 - they have 100 octane and 91 octane here in California. I mix ~ 4 Gal of 100 octane with the remainder of 91 octane.
  11. There are some cameras which are build into the frame for the license plate like this one: http://www.autoanything.com/licenseplate-f...9A2316A0A0.aspx
  12. monkeydust, Can you let us know how much they are charging you for the job - I am in the same situation.
  13. Loren - thanks for the quick response. Are there any hidden traps/secrets replacing it? I used Goop Household Adhesive and Sealant to glue the part to the metal hook. The instructions that came with the part instructed the use of adhesive instead of glue. I believe that adhesive is more rubbery, and glue would be too brittle in this applicaiton. It was an easy repair that took a total of 15 minutes max. I used an exacto knife to cut the new part so it would go around the pin. I also have not contributed because I don't use Paypal. I would like to contribute by check if at all possible. JohnJ, I got the part now - however it came without instructions. How is it installed? Any hints before I try it? Thanks Ed
  14. BTW - would like to become a contributing member - however won't do PayPal (bad experience). Is there any other way (like mailing a check)?
  15. Loren - thanks for the quick response. Are there any hidden traps/secrets replacing it?
  16. Need the part number for the black plastic part which covers the metal hook, closing the convertible roof (see pictures). Does anybody have experience in replacing the part (how to)? Thanks in advance
  17. I am in the San Jose are. There is no 93 octane here but we have a few 76 gas stations selling 100 octane. So I Mix ~ 4 gallons of 100 with the rest 91 to fill her up.
  18. Izzy, thanks for the response - put the new part in (its all black now with a piece of plastic covering one of the levers - instead of silver). All back in working order.
  19. Here are 2 more pictures. I am trying to figure out if the part is easy to exchange (moderate mechanical skills) or how much of a bill from Porsche I can expect. I have seen Loren's post for a '03 Cab - but the mechanism seems to be a little different http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...ost&id=3186 996-03 Thanks in advance
  20. I installed a SmartTop last weekend. As Murphys Law wants it, and after playing with the top for I few days, I recognized tonight that there is a lever broken. Enclosed photos are of the cover on the left of the car. Any suggestions about part nombers and how to replace the part are very welcome. Thanks Eduard
  21. Could it be the OBC's (On Board Computer) speed limit? Once you exceed the set speed it gives you the ding-ding.
