  1. Mark

I had the same wind noise on mine, and found that it was because the window was not going high enough.  This caused the top edge to get sucked outwards at speeds above about 85mph, and break the seal at the top.

Adjusting the door strike plate was absolutely the wrong thing to do, and I would question that with your dealer. There is a procedure in the manual for adjusting the pressing force of the window against the seals, which is pretty much as PTEC describes.  There is also a procedure for adjusting the door window height, and angle in the longitudinal direction.

If you want, I could email you the pages of the manual.  PM or email  me with your email address if you want them.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks, I have sent you a pm with my email address, that would be really helpful.

  2. I have a 1998 C2 which has just had the passenger door seal replaced as I complained about wind noise after purchasing the car.

I saw the seal replaced so I know that has been done, however the mechanic informed me that he had adjusted the striker plate to pull in the door slightly.

The door is more difficult to shut, so I tried to adjust the striker plate, but no improvement there.

The noise seems to be coming from the back edge of window from the middle downwards.

    Any help please on :-

    1) how to adjust the striker plate so it shuts better

    2) can the angle of the window be adjusted to cure the wind noise ?

    Thanks

  3. I checked out the option decoder on rennlist.com and 014 is not there.

I have a few option codes that I can't sort out either, 222 and 234 on my '99 996 coupe tip.  If you find a decoder that shows up 014, let me know, maybe mine will be there too.

    Where there's life, there's hope...

222 - Traction Control (TC) which was always sold with 224 - Automatic Limited Slip Differential (LSD) in MY99. No list I have shows a 234 - I'll bet your 234 is really 224 if you look closely. My list comes from the Porsche Worldwide Parts Listings.

Option 014 is the Sports Pack for 996, but I am trying to find out what the Sports Pack means........ any extra bits ?

  4. Well after a bad experience with the 996 C4 I owned, I did a deal to get a BOXSTER 'S', it is a great car but I missed the 911 too much.

So picked up a 1998 Carrera yesterday, it has sports suspension, sports seats, OBC, full leather and drives superb. The Ocean Blue Metallic paintwork is really stunning. :)

With 71K miles and a full OPC history the car has been well cared for.

Didn't go for a much newer model as I don't want the hit financially I suffered on the C4, will wait and see how this one is for a year....... then maybe

Have some option codes that I can not find even from Scousers list or Kindel, anybody help ?

    :help:

    014

    234

    850

    859

    Thanks

  5. Help please ?

I do not know if the RMS has failed on my 1998 (99 model year) C4 Tip.

Recently noticed a small amount of oil on the garage floor !!!!, however over 3 days this has amounted to barely covering the bottom of a small beaker which I placed underneath the car.

Have attached a pic, and hope someone can advise ?

As I am in UK, any idea of what the cost is likely to be ?

    Many thanks

    Mark
