996 Throttle Pedal R&R

I've got a 2001 Carrera (~55k mi) with similar accelerator pedal roughness... Did you have any success in smoothing it out? If so, could describe what you did? Thanks! Yeah, it wasn't all that difficult once I got out the big hammer! :rolleyes: I wrote it up on the Rennlist forum here. Hope that helps. Michael -
996 Throttle Pedal R&R

Never mind. I figured it out. :D -
The throttle pedal on my '02 996 has a "sticky" feel to it - most noticeable on the freeway when making minor adjustments to the accelerator, it feels "notchy". There's a post on this on Rennlist but only one guy had anything useful to say and it was "my brother took his car to an Indy and they cleaned it [the pedal] for him". I see only one screw and one clip, but I can't seem to find the right way to remove the assembly from the car. I don't want to break it, as I'm sure it's very expensive to replace. I think this is all electronic, so there's some kind of potentiometer in there that tells the computer how far the pedal is pressed down. Hopefully there's something simple and easy to clean or lube so that I don't have to buy a whole new thing. Any suggestions or instructions? Thanks, Michael Cary, NC '02 996 Cab '03 M5

Like Izzy said, contact your agent. Every company is different. I know that my company (USAA) did pay off on a DE accident, but they told me if I did it again (crash) they would cancel me. This was in 1996 so they may have changed their terms. A friend bought a car from me and then totalled it - State Farm was his carrier and they paid it. However a lot of companies are changing their policies to specifically exclude DE. Formerly they only excluded racing, now they often exclude any activity on a race track, even if it is not a competitive event. Because these things vary between companies and even between states (because every state has different laws) you should not trust any answer you receive on a forum unless the person has the same insurance company and lives in the same state and is actually reading their policy declaration as they write the response. Call your insurance company. Better yet, read your policy. ;) Michael
