  1. Guys, Thanks for the tips. Both the garage door DIY and the spoiler DIY switches now have functioning back-lighting! Thanks, Mark
  2. Loren, Thnaks for the switch schematic and O.E., thanks for the feedback about polarity -- as soon as I saw the two diodes in the schematic that Loren posted (above) I knew it had to be a polarity issue. I'll try to hook it up again. This time, with the switch schematic in hand, I should get it right. Thanks guys, Mark
  3. Guys, I have done this DIY but so far I've been unsuccessful in figuring out how to hook up the switch back-lighting so that it lights up with the rest of the switches and gauges when you turn on the parking lights. Anyone have success here yet -- the original DIY says to use the two outer-most contacts of the switch, but that is incorrect. I tried it and it does not work. Thanks, Mark P.S. Loren, any chance you hace a schematic drawing of the typical 996 toggle switch?? The switch I used is the same one everyone else is using for the garage door DIY. Thx.
  4. Loren, Not sure if you received my email a week or so ago... thank you for the box of goodies! I appreciate your kindness! Mark
  5. I highly encourage this as a DIY if the dealer wants to charge you for it. I did the repair kit install per the TSB in about 30 minutes. It was my first DIY two years ago. The degree of difficulty on a scale from 1 (easiest) to 10 (vey difficult) was a 2. Good luck, Mark
  6. I installed PSE w/o the electronics several months ago... since then I moved to a new city and I seem to have lost the box of electronics and vacuum parts that came with my PSE. Anyone have that stuff laying around the garage and never planning to install it? I'd be happy to take it off your hands for a reasonable price. Thanks, Mark
  7. Loren, I am attempting the "Replace Front Hood Latch" DIY ... Can you tell me what is meant by the "M6 x 25 hexagon socket head bolts" and "M4 x 14 hex socket head bolt "? I thought maybe M6 was a 6mm socket, but maybe I need a 6mm hex wrench instead. I took these instructions to the local auto parts store and they all just sctatched their heads. Can you help me out with the definitive tools that I need to buy? Thanks, Mark
  8. With a lot of patience, the old frame came off and the new frame and rubber seal went on just fine. The entire job took one hour. Mark
  9. On Saturday I was in the middle of replacing the rear window rubber seal (996 545 521 03) on my 1999 C2 coupe and I accidently broke  the metal frame that wraps around both sides and the top of the rear window. The local dealership has the replacment metal frame (I'm picking it up tomorrow) but I need to know if there is anything unusual about replacing the frame? Is there a TSP or set of instructions that details the step by step procedure? Anyone accomplished this DIY before? Thanks, Mark
  10. loren, I'm looking for a hard copy of the Vehicle Storage TSB so that I can print it out, laminate it and hang it on the wall of my home garage. Can you help me out? Thanks, Mark
  11. Last winter I bought 17" Dunlop Wintersport M+S snow tires for my 1999 996 C2 coupe after seeing them as Porsche recommended tires. Now the TSBs make no mention of Dunlop winter tires, only of Pirelli Winter W240 Snowsport N1 tires. The Dunlops had great traction but I'm wondering if anyone has feedback (good or bad) on the dunlops or whatever you use during the winter. Maybe I should get some Pirelli's... Thanks, Mark
  12. The other thing to check is that they use synthetic oil, not regular or a blended type. Porsche only recommends synthetics.
  13. My '99 996 C2 has 68,000 miles on the clock and I'm starting to get the impression that the clutch isn't nearly as tough to push in as it was six months ago. Assuming that my clutch is probably near the end of its service life, can anyone tell me what I should expect to pay for a clutch replacement (parts and labor) if I take it to the local Porsche dealership for the work? (I plan to take it to Porsche of Arlington in Northern VA.) Also, can anyone tell me if you've recently had this work done, how many miles on the clock did you have at the time? Thanks! I love this Board!! Mark
  14. Loren, Is this relay grid located under the front hood somewhere? I don't recall seeing it in the passenger compartment. Thank you, Mark
  15. Loren, Where is position 4? Is it somewhere in the fuse box next to the driver-side left foot, or located in a fuse box somewhere under the front hood? Thank you Sir, Mark
  16. I'm looking for the ROW030 write-up and review from Panarama Magazine. It was posted somewhere online too. Does anyone know where online it is posted or which issue of Panaroma? Thanks, Mark
  17. Gents, When driving my '99 996 yesterday (90 degrees outside) I noticed the rear defogger switch light popped on. When I turned it off, it came back on after about 1 second. I tried several times to turn it off, but it would just keep on turning itself on. I'm suspecting it is a relay that needs to be replaced. Anyone have any idea which relay it is, where it is located, part number and cost? Anyone ever see this problem before? Thanks, Mark
  18. Loren, Sorry, I'm at work and I'm actually supposed to be working... Thanks, Mark
  19. Hey Guys, For a 1999 996, what is the right wattage and socket configuration for the following lights: High Beam: Low Beam: Fog Light: I just checked out the Hoen website and I'm definitely going to order new lamps today. Very cool. Thanks, Mark
  20. able2ski, If the dealer can't see the golden opportunity to have a lifelong customer by treating you politely and with respect then he doesn't deserve your business. When dealers treat me that way I take my business elsewhere -- after politely telling them. Good luck, Mark
  21. I'm looking for the part number for the inside driver-side door handle; the actual shiny part to pull to open the door. Also, does anyone have DIY instructions on how to remove and replace it? My car is a '99 996 C2 Coupe. Thanks, Mark
  22. Good news, the problems is solved byvacuuming out the debris in the air intakes and topping off the coolant. Temps are back to normal! Thanks for everyone's help, Mark
