  1. Greetings:

Besidesmyself, the guy that drove my C2S off the boat and a SA, I'm the only one who has driven my car..A STICK..so the wife CAN'T drive it...just a thought. If I was to purchase a used Porsche I would get a certified used one at a Porsche dealer. The warranty would be well worth it If it was a private party purchase,I would require that the car be taken to a dealer & have a " stage " readout done. It would give you a great idea about how the car was driven. We Porsche ownerstend to " work " the car a little.....some may have abused the car...andmaybe that is the reason for it's sale.

  2. Aside from the torque/power increases, have you noticed any mpg increase?

    Sir:

With just the headers, I didn't expect any " power " increase,.... does sound a little " throatier " though. I am running about 94 octane here, mixing 100 octane racing fuel and 91 octane crap gas from Union 76 .. 94 octane net really makes a difference. I plan on adding AWE cats and mufflers next month or two.. will keep all informed. The sound has change though and it seems a little smoother overall...

  3. When I picked up my new 997, the dealer provided me with (2) key/fobs, the owners manuals and some nice "Porsche" key chains (and even a hot breakfast at the dealership). However, there is a spot in the glove box (2 clips) that look like they should hold a pen or tire pressure gauge - nothing was there. What did everyone else get on delivery :)

    Greetings:

I received: 2 hats, a great heavy Porsche jacket and a small " Porsche " box..... and 2 leather key fobs. I bought my 2006 C2S from Hoehn Porsche in Carlsbad, CA....Top rate outfit and they were more than nice. A great experience.

  4. Greetings:

I have just installed x51 headers on my 2006 C2S. I am convinced that the car runs and sounds smoother. They are an exact replacement for stock. There are six bolts that hold each header to the block. The bolts were removed easily. The only snag I had on installation was some difficulty with the aft most bolt...it was not lining up correctly. I simply loosened the cat clamp to the muffler and the bracket clamp on the cat.....whala...Do yourself a favor and lossen the cat brackets and clamps first..the bolts will easily line up for you.

Any pics of old and new?

    Hi,

No, sorry...if you go to the Europipe website you can see the x51 headers there...they claim the x51s are as good or better than anything you can buy so.... rather than making their own, they use the X51's

  6. I have an 04 996C2 and a few weeks ago the car developing starting problems in temperatures below 34 degrees. It would either make a growling sound or no sound at all but after 6 to 12 attempts she would finally start. Whenever temp was above 34 it would start no problem what so ever. Last week it wouldn't start and I got a littly annoyed and slammed the clutch pedal down and noticed it started right up. So, I dropped it at the dealer this week as the weather called for some artic temps. First day they called and said no problem, starts all the time. I asked them to keep it overnight again and today they called and said that both the service writer and tech experienced the starting problem and that they were going to replace the starter interlock switch at the clutch. The surprise was when they called to say the car was done and the bill was $134.00. The car is CPO and I couldn't believe that this was not covered under warranty. I called Porsche North America and they simply said, whatever an authorized dealer says is the way it is.

When I picked up the car the service writer showed me that the part number was not listed in the warrantied items list, yet I noticed that the memory seat switch was in the list. So I asked, how can a part that prevents the car from starting not be covered while a part like a memory seat switch that won't disable the car is covered? The answer was, welcome to the mystery of dealing with Porsche.

I am wondering if anyone has any insight into this or has had a similar experience?

    Greetings:

As Bill Clinton says " I feel your pain ". The moral to this story is read the fine print. I would gather that this switch is very likely to give out while the seat switch is very less likely. The clutch/ starter switch is used every time you start the car... the seat switch...how often? I plan on buying an extended warrany when my original warranty is close to the expiration date. My service manager advised I purchase just the powertrain warranty. I have a 997 C2S. He said the car is so good the other warranty is a waste. For $2K for 3 years I'll take my chances on the " Platiunum " level, and get just the powertrain warranty. Here goes the coin toss....Insurance companies are for profit institutions., they have ALL the data.

  7. I've had three different exhausts on my car, and I can confirm, there is absolutely no reason to remove the rear bumper when removing or replacing the exhaust. It is easy to do, and all bolts are very easy to access, especially compared to the Boxster. I can now R&R my exhaust in less than 45 mins.

    Gundo

    Greetings:

I plan on removing the rear bumper because I didn't want to remove the rear tires to remove the mufflers or put the car on jack stands. I've looked on the AWE sight and they have pictures with the rear bumper removed. It's just seemed that it would be easier to remove the top cat/muffler pipe bolt and the mufflers as well as align the cats and remove the cat bracket bolt...with the bumper removed. Once I do the installation I'll post my impressions on this forum. Thank you for the input.

I'll be doing x51 headers, AWE cats and mufflers.

  8. ...His advise was that the 997 is so good that I would be wise only to buy a powertrain warranty and forget the rest.

Hmm, don't take this the wrong way but I wonder what he based that claim on given that no 997 have been around longer than the 4 yr warranty yet?

    Greetings:

I beleive that the 997 has been available since late 2004 ( for the 05MY ). My service manager said that he has seen very few problems with any 997 as of yet. One would extrapolate that in 3 and 1/2 years of availabilty and some individuals driving 15-20k miles per year, you'd see 997's coming in for service that had anywhere from 50 to 60k miles on them. He said the 997 is that good. I'd expect that in 50 to60k miles some issues would show up.......his view, not mine. I have to trust someone.

  9. I've got a 2006 997 C4 Cab still under the original warranty and I intend to keep the car for many years to come, and I am wondering if I should investigate the Porsche extended warranty options.

Anyone have anyt thoughts/info/experience with Porsche's extended warranty program? I'm told by the dealer there are many options as long as the car is still under the original warranty (which it is).

    Thanks in advance!

    Damon

    Greetings:

I have a 06 C2S with 3150 miles on the clock. I talked to the Porsche dealer here in San Diego. They have different levels of an extended warranty program which basically covers another 3 years ( after the original 4 years ) and up to 100K miles. They told me that I should come in at least 30 days before the original warranty expires and have at least 1k miles lasting on the original warranty. ( like that will be hard ). I talked to the service department manager for about 30 minutes. His advise was that the 997 is so good that I would be wise only to buy a powertrain warranty and forget the rest. A full warranty here in California costs about $3200 for the 3 years/100K miles at the best level. I plan on just the powertrain warranty when I'm close to the expiration of the original.

  10. Cayenne|17, I hate the way our cars look with a front plate, but many State Laws require them. I have elected to run without a front plate. Risky, I know.

    Sir:

I don't know what area of the country in which you live. I live in San Diego and have kept my front end " clean " on my 2006 C2S by not placing a plate on it, it came from the dealer bracket and plate holder not attached. If I am stopped by a police officer for a " fix-it " ticket, I will double tape the plate to the front bumper and get it signed off, then remove the plate No ticket fee here in San Diego... just a fix-it ticket. Others have used the towing portal in the front bumper and have rigged plate holders from that opening....good luck. I like the look of no plate.

Does anyone have a diagram of the rear bumper assembly for a 997. I am planning the installation of an exhaust system and it seems that it would be a lot easier if the rear bumper panel was removed.

    Thanks.

    Sir:

Thanks for the immediate response.... the diagram confirms my overview, visual assesment .... this is what I expected , relative to fastners. Having the rear panel removed will make the exhaust installation much easier especially when it comes to bolt/ nut access. Again ...Thank you very much!!!

  12. Hi,

    I recently purchased a full Milltek Sport Exhaust for a 997 S.

The 'Kit' contains Left and Right Headers, Left and Right 200CPSI Hi-Flow Race Cats, Left and Right Mufflers and Left and right tailpipe inlets.

I currently have the OEM Sport Exhaust on my '07 997 C2S, but read that Milltek offered a nice 'resonance free' system and bought it to have the option to switch.

I believe that this system only needs/uses the OEM tailpipes/end-tips?

I don't think the current Sport Exhaust tips will fit.

Does anyone know exactly which tailpipes/end-tips will work with this system?

Attached a picture of what I have.

Any technical feedback on whether or not one should do this is really appreciated (I do understand that there will be a big 'personal factor' in this decision)

    Thanks a lot, Pete :renntech:

    Sir:

If I may ask, what was the total price. Fabspeed , for instance, wants about $4700 for a full system. I thought about looking at the Milltek while using OEM X51 headers which are about one-half the price of Fabspeeds/ AWE headers AND I believe Milltek and Fabspeed will be a perfect fit to the X51's. Everyone worries about " drone " . Once you have them installed please jump back on this form and give everyone an idea of the sound and if they " drone ". Much appreciated.

  14. Racing fuel is not recommended for street cars because of different reasons. Belgian market Porsche's runs on 97 octane but we can get in some places 100 octane unleaded street fuel as well, the perceptible difference is only the price in this case. If you ever got serious engine trouble while using racing fuel , the warranty is lapsed, don't forget that.

    Greetings:

Let me throw this out to all of you again. The product is called " Street Blaze " Street legal ( in the US ) 100 octane fuel.

    Thanks

    Sir:

Thank you very much, great chart . AND I do agree with you. I put in 5 gallons of " Streetblaze 100 " ( Unleaded ) yesterday and topped off my tank to 16.9 gallons. After driving and mixing the fuel I noticed 2 issues. First , the car ran much smoother. It had more " pep " Secondly, it started immediately, not with the normal 2 to 3 cranks. Streetblaze is expensive, about $7.00 to $8.00 a gallon, but at 5 gallons per tankful and the few miles I put on my C2S , it is worth it. California gas is crap. A good friend of mine put some "streeblaze" in his WRX STI and the boost pressure max went from 15.7 to 16.8. He said there was a most definite smoothness and p[wer increase. He can remap his Ecu as desired, which is an issue I may look at after the warranty expires on my 2006 C2S. Again, Thanks

  16. Greetings:

I have come to realize that we all are students AND all things are not as they first appear. Thus ... my question. I am currently using 91 octane fuel, the highest octane available in California ( generally ) My 2006 C2S 997 recommends 93 octane. I have recently discovered a gas station ( locally close at 8 miles ) that offers 100 octane racing fuel. Wishing to raise the octane rating in the fuel I use, is raising the octane to 93 or above as simple as averaging the gallons vs octane? OR??? Is there some other formula/ratio that must be used . IE: Does 4 gallons of 91 octane plus 4 gallons of 99 octane mixed yield 8 gallons of 95 octane. Thanks for the input.

I was viewing a Youtube video tonight showing a 997S going at a good clip...FAST! The speedo showed a red-line of 8000RPM. I think that the USA cars red-lining at 7400 rpm have been been governed respective of USA laws... any comments? I have had one experience of red-lining my 2006 997S and have had the limiter kick in... the dealer thought nothing of it...We in the US have been robbed of the true potential of our cars I thinkuth!!

2006 997 S Carrara White Coupe. full leather sand interior etc......

That is one side of the argument. The other side is that Porsche set rev limit at 7400 on production cars to protect the wallet of the car owner. The cost of that sick sounding $20k Kaboom far outweighs the performance benefit of a couple hundred more revs. I am not sure how much useable performance they left on the table in the interest of reliability. It is always a tradeoff. After tossing a half dozen or so motors with no rev limit that grenaded due to overrev in the heat of battle I welcome a realistic rev limiter. It just reminds me to shift.

Now if you tear down the motor, fine balance the crank and cams, lighten pistons and rods, high rev valve springs, port polish balance and blueprint, increase top end lubrication, improve engine cooling, you will create some safety room for higher revs.

    Just one mans opinion.

    Greetings:

I have heard this argument before... that being that you gain very little from having the rpm range extended at the top end. I don't have a problem with a rev limiter.. I look it as a great thing...with the laws as they are in California you get thrown in jail for going even 1 mph over 100mph, and there are those infractions which cover " unsafe " or " exhibition of speed " driving. The vast majority of us will never experience the true potential of the 997. My point would be that if you extend the rpm range at the top you also extend it in the middle , would it not be logical that the performance ( generally ) would also be increased, in the middle. I've always wondered why BMW governs my 2004 5 series at 155mph.... I don't think the Germans would react with glee if it was done to German cars. As far as the " motor tear down ", I really hope Porsche did at least a few of those things before they assembled my engine... for $99,949.85 out- the - door.. I would expect it.

  20. Battery Maintainer...

With my Cayman S literature there was a mail in form to order a Battery Maintainer…not talking about the Maintainer/Charger (this item I understand). I’m sure every other Porsche owner got this as well.

Has anyone used this Maintainer for long-term storage? I don’t know why this item exists; the manual clearly illustrates how to remove the battery for long-term storage.

Is the idea behind this product to save the work and efforts of battery removal and re-installation?

Does anyone use this Maintainer? Have you used for short-term storage (couple of weeks)? Is there a serious battery draw concern if idle for a couple of weeks? Or have you used for long-term winter storage (few months)? For those in the North.

    Many questions…I know.

    Thanks

    Greetings:

I have a 2006 C2S 997 with very low miles and it is a weekend drive only. I was told to do two things by my dealer. 1) Always use a battery charger/maintainer ( trickle charger ) and ALWAYS lock the car. This puts far less drain on the battery. Porsche batteries by the way ( 997 and other newer cars ) are not maintenance free. They need water. It's cheap insurance..ever price a Porsche battery??

    Good luck.

  21. I have a 2007 997 Carerra S – 2500 miles – with a vibration in the clutch pedal when shifting that is most noticeable when the engine RPM is 3500 to 5000. To demonstrate the problem, I can rev the engine with the gear in neutral and press the clutch pedal in and out with the engine at 4000 RPM. There is a very distinct vibration in the clutch pedal after the clutch is disengaged and through the pedal travel to just before “bottom out”.

The dealer has replaced the clutch pressure plate and throw out bearing the first time with no improvement.

The second time, the above were replaced again along with the fly wheel that they indicated has shown some vibration in other vehicles with rivets that sometimes loosen. They indicated that my flywheel did not show any loose rivets.

Upon return, the vibration was less than before but not gone and it increased in just a few days of driving – I am not a real aggressive driver.

The car is going back tomorrow morning for another round of “what can we try this time”. Any info of your experiences would be appreciated.

    Greetings:

I have a 2006 C2S with very low milage ( about 2900 ). I do feel a slight vibration, as you mentioned, and it is also at higher revs ( 4500 and above ) when I'm upshifting and have the clutch completely floored. It is somewhat expected, as I see it, and from what I have been told . I am not an engineer, however, I have read that the clutch assembly and the bearing locations are somewaht far apart and that contributes to the vibration. Also in the past ,with the RMS problems, this vibration causes the seals to fail...because of the off center ocsilations (sp? ) anyway you and I are most likely not the only ones experiencing this issue. Whatever the reason, whether by correct reasoning or otherwise, it's a little bothersome and something you would have expected Porsche to address..you and I are not the only ones feeling this!
