  1. the screws are there to hold it in place while you do the bolts

    some people ignore this step

the bolts hold it on without the screw just fine

painted parts are available at www.bumperplugs.com

installation details should be there too, or just ask eric (plug guy)

no affiliation, just a happy customer!

Took delivery of my C4S PDK last weekend - fantastic. Got the Carrera Sport wheels that show very nicely with the arctic silver paint. I have the 5mm wheel spacers on order and plan to fit them next weekend. As I understand, there are two countersunk screws in the wheel hub that I use to secure the spacers and then use the longer bolts that come with the spacers.

Can anyone confirm this is the correct way to fit them? Any details I'm missing?

I'd also like to order the rear center console in arctic silver. Perhaps the dash trim too. I assume these can simply be retrofitted - anyone know to the contrary?

Many thanks as I try to stay contained during the break-in - roll on 1,000 miles!!

  2. the hinges have pins in them

use an awl or similar object to press out the pin

2001 Boxster. My drivers door, door pocket lid has a broken spring, and it's got some scratches on it. I'd like to just replace it. I Can order the new one for cheap enough, but how do I get the old one off? Looked at it, but I can't quite tell. Does one have to remove the entire door trim and everything and unscrew it from the back side? Easier way?

    Thanks!

  3. "price reflects $1,995.00 down payment"

it does mention ceramic brakes in the text

    and the rear wing

    steve

Selling dealer may not know much - "yellow brake calipers" - instead of PCCB brakes.

Also, doe not mention the Aerokit.

  4. Some people have all the fun! I'm already scraping some driveways and bump stops as it is 02 S, so I'm outta luck :(

you'll still get a lot of benefit just from doing the sways. optionally, you can do the complete U.W. M030; it doesn't change the ride height.

I'm reviving this thread because there are some very knowledgeable people (Insite in particular) on here and that's what I need right now. I have a 2004 base Boxster w/o M030 and I auto-x with the SCCA in A Stock. I am fairly competitive with the A Stock leaders in their S2000's but need another .5 to .8 seconds to beat them. Obviously, in AS I am not allowed to install the RoW M030 because it bumps me out of Stock class. What parts and part #s do I need to install the US M030? I am allowed to change front sway bar to anything but must keep the rear sway bar and springs US M030 or non-M030 (no mixing and matching between the different suspension packages allowed). I can change shocks, too as long as ride height does not change. I have read about the amazing differences between the non-M030 and RoW M030 on a 986S but how much of a difference between the non-M030 and US M030 on a base Boxster? I can only get -.7 camber on the front, I assume that will not change or is there some Stock legal way to get more? I want to run with the S2000's at the SCCA Nats this year and am looking for help.

somebody will be along soon with some advice, but a starting place would be to read these sites

  5. not sure what the stated tire pressures are on the 987, but on the 986, i run 32/34 cold (no autocrossing)

the recommended tire pressures are something like 32/36 or 32/38

    the larger differential adds understeer

lowering the differential makes the car more neutral

i do know the 987 has higher profile tires than the 986, but the basic theory should hold true

  6. do an archives search for LN or jake raby

there is also an online guide with you tube videos to a boxster engine rebuild

someone also did one on ppbb.com

someone will show up soon and point it out to you

    Hello Everyone,

I am a new Porsche owner! I just purchased a 2002 Boxster S with 45k miles and I am the 3rd owner. The car drives like a dream.

With that said, I have been reading about IMS and RMS issues in various websites and forums. They are quite scary and I am finding myself driving with a bit of paranoia as I am nearing the 50k mile mark.

I have very little knowledge of cars but I am prepared to get my hands dirty and do as much work on the car myself as possible. Something I am considering is locating a used 3.2L engine and beginning a slow (I'm talking years here or whenever/if ever my new baby experience IMS or RMS hell) rebuild process.

I am fortunate to have a place to store the extra parts as well as many of the tools that might be necessary. My father is a passionate Alfa Romeo collector and I can keep the 'emergency engine' stored in our stable with our Land Rovers and Alfa Romeos. I know this might sound quite extreme but if I can find an engine for a good price and in small steps work to rebuild it and keep it handy just in case why not?

If I make it to 200,000 miles then I will have a fresh replacement at the ready. I have every intention of driving the hell out of this car and I dont want to worry about putting mileage on it.

I wanted to get some pointers/feedback from the community about my thoughts.

Going back to the IMS and RMS problems, how hard would it be to pull the transmission and inspect those items? Would it not be cheaper to do that than risk a failure?

Thanks all and I am looking forward to a long and enjoyable Porsche experience.

    Boxster / 2000 / 2.7 / Manual / US

Changed my oil on the 3000 mile mark this weekend. Everything smooth until I took a look at the drain pan and found some small bits of either rubber or silicone like material.

Much more of this in the oil filter. Also some gunk on the oil cap.

    Pictures attached.

Smaller bits appear slightly green. The longer segment shown on the black oil pan is about 1/2 inch and mustard colour (both colours may be affected by oil of course). This longer peice is slightly stretchy but breaks easily.

Coolant level is at normal. Regular 8.75 quarts came out of the engine so looks like it is not taking in additional fluid.

Anyone seen this kind of thing in the oil before? Pointers to where I should look first?

    Thanks, Mark.

  8. aloha doc

talk to eric (pug guy) of bumperplugs.com

he gave me the scoop on all the different factory finishes, plus he can get the factory parts or paint to match

what kind of doc are you?

    aloha

    steve

Does anyone have the factory aluminum look rear console or door handles/compartment covers? I understand that it is slightly different color than the galvano silver finish of the interior door handles and shift boot ring...Does this contrast okay, or look strange?..

    thanks,

  9. mahalo (thanks) for the reply

as you may have noticed, i am in hawaii, so shipping does become a HUGE consideration sometimes

also, thanks for the detailed review

    aloha

    steve

I have no idea how often they offer free shipping, but the $30 in shipping shouldnt be a deal breaker IMO. If you're really dead set on it, the owner or TurboWerx is really cool (or was to me) so if you just mention that you were in contact with him while they were offering free shipping he'll honor it. I didn't even know about the free shipping when I ordered, I just mentioned that I had sent him an email a couple weeks ago and HE was the one who mentioned the free shipping (because he thought we'd talked about it) and honored it even though it was an old promotion. Worth a try :)
  10. i can't tell you for sure, but i'm fairly confident that they are almost exactly if not exactly the same

you can also buy them blank, without the "PORSCHE" on it

just search for aluminum pedals rather than porsche aluminum pedals

i have the exact same pedals except i paid a lot more for them because mine say "RUF" on them

i bought them as a souvenir of my visit to the RUF Werkes :)

a great day- i got to drive the RTurbo that was on the cover of Road and Track and lots of other mags :)

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between those listed on ebay and these sold by Suncoast other than the price???

    http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant..._Code=POTE996IN

  11. are they stock or replicas?

    where did you get them?

    they look really nice!

    steve

Wheels are 9.5 in the rear and 8.5 in the front no spacers needed......the ride quality is almost exactly the same as my 18 carerra's..I seriously can not tell a difference. And I was worried about a reduction in acceleration, but can not dectect any change from when i had the 18's on there.
  12. 18X7.5 offset 50 in front

    18X9 offset 52 in rear

    stock 2004 550 SE w/stock 5mm spacers

search the archives here to see what to do

lots of people have used the 996 rims, but i can't remember what they did to make them fit

    steve

I am looking at a used set of original Porsche wheels for my 2002 Boxster. They are the 5 spoke 18 inch porsche wheels.

    They are 18 x 8 offset 37 on the front and 18 x 10 offset 58 on the rear.

Does anyone have the same wheels on their Boxster? Any rubbing on the inside or the outside? Would I need spacers?

I spoke with Parts at the Porsche dealer and he said it will be tight on the rear since the Boxster S came with 18 x 9 only. He said he's not sure whether it will rub or not and not sure if it does rub whether spacers would help.

  13. search for ROW 030

this is the european lower sport suspension

it is said to handle and ride better

plus it is less than an inch lower, so your car looks nicer too

    aloha

    steve

I own a 1999 Boxster and I think I need new rear suspension.I hear a noise from there very often especially when the road is not smooth.Car has 95000 miles so I think to upgrade front/rear suspension.

I made a search in forum but couldnt find any recomendations.I dont want stiff suspension.I need smooth ride and comfortable,if it can be comfortable ride in Boxster :)

What do u recomend? To use OEM shock absorbers?I searched at pelicanparts and found out that OEM shocks absorbers are Blinstein ones.As I know these are very stiff, correct?

Also I know that H&R suspension adjustable kit can be very smooth.Anyone tried this?

I am waiting for ur comments and recomendations.

    Thanks

  14. i have a 2004 550 special edition

it has what look like unpainted calipers in grey and black stickers

it certainly doesn't have glossy paint on them like the base and the S

i have seen cars that have all the paint stripped/chipped off the calipers and they look gery too

    aloha

    steve

Hey there everyone, I was reading on Pedro's DIY site about caliper repainting and he mentioned that S models had red, some had yellow, some black, and "Special Editions" with gray calipers. I have gray calipers on mine ('00 non-S) and was wondering what the "Special Edition" was he was referring to.

As fas as I know, my car is a basic base model with not much special about it lol

    thx

  15. i bought from RUF while i was on tourist delivery

there are lots of knockoffs that are just like them

probably from the same mfg, mine just said RUF, so they were $$$

i like the nubbies and can use shoes, slippers or bare feet on them

    aloha

    steve

ps- search the site for installation tips

email me if you want, i have an email in my sent: folder that has most of the info

I paid $90 four years ago on eBay but I can't remember the manufacturer. That was for all four pedals made for the Boxster. They're aluminum with raised metal bosses around the holes which really give a good bite on your soles. I never tried the rubber knobs but I can't see them giving as much traction. Couldn't be happier with them and I couldn't justify the $300 for Rennlines or Gemballas.
  16. great info, jeff

do you have any reports of people using auto strasse's or jake's rebuilds?

    aloha

    steve

I have been following this from Jake Raby, and other companies as well. The Boxster has been around for 11 years. I have been around for 9 of those years. Said a long time ago the Boxster was going to be the next 914, just water cooled and heavier.

I am on 2 message boards run by Brad Roberts, and Brad and others saw this before me. You can find 2.5s for less then $10,000. If they are in decent shape and the engine runs.

Here is what Jake said 1 1/2 years ago: "When Porsche cuts that program off [Porsche selling rebuilt engines for the older cars] we'll be ready for it with an updated stock engine replacement as well as performance upgrades. The 2.5 cars are already 10 years old and I'll bet that the engine program to support these cars won't be around much longer."

    http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?show...2696&st=280

Fast foward to today. On Brad's spec message board: "There are only 7 left in the world!!! For those of you who are thinking about it now is the time to order. There were 11 on Friday and 31 at the begining of the month so they are going fast!!!! "

    http://www.boxsterspec.com/index.php?showtopic=993

If this is true, then Porsche has ended the production of 2.5 rebuilt engines.

So. the aftermarket steps in to fill the gap, or has already stepped in. Auto Farm and Hartech in England has been doing this for a while. Auto Strasse in Southern California. Now Jake Raby.

  17. you may also want to post this on www.ppbb.com

    Hello,

2000 Boxster 2.7 owner located in Dallas Texas (Plano) needs help performing DIY work on my vehicle. I noticed a large puff of smoke when starting and I attempted to replace the AOS and thought I was successful however the dealership here said the clamp at the bottom (which I replaced the porsche plastic with a normal metal hose clamp has torn through the hose.) He says the AOS has to be totally replaced and I think he is not being totally honest because I remember it being just a little rubber boot that it held on the ABS like black plastic. Well that is one of the many things that I would need HELP with (basically have to show me but I could do it), the other things are:

    1. REPLACE MY FILLER TUBE

    2. OIL RETURN TUBES (4)

    3. DO A 90K SERVICE (PLUGS, SERPENTINE BELT, FILTERS AND OIL CHANGE)

    4. HORN FIX (The typical Boxster horn problem in hot climates)

    5. HOOD POP (Busted cable one morning and emergency release cable cannot be reached)

Is there any other Porsche owners out there living in the Dallas area that are willing to help out a fellow porschephile. I really need help urgently due to the fact that I am currently in flight training and have to commute south of Dallas each week for training. I don't have alot of disposable income at present as a result of training however if someone competent when working on boxsters could just kinda "coach" me I would be more than grateful and would pay for their guidance. This is actually what I have wanted to do is to learn more about the internal workings so I can do the majority of maintenance on my vehicle! I am currently borrowing my wifes car to commute and I really don't want to fall behind in my training for a weekend's worth of work I don't know how to perform. The dealership cost is well ...... I had better say it's: dealership cost! (that way my username is not in question lol) If anyone has done this kind of work then please feel free to submit your ideas or if you know a competent technician that is reasonable. I can order whatever is necessary however the only time I have is on Fridays through Sunday, then it's back to flight training. Is there a Boxster club in Dallas that might help? I am not afraid to beg as you can clearly see lol. I REALLY want to get back into my car and give my wife her car back! Please help and Thanks in advance!
