  1. when u say run it through all the positions do you mean through the gears 1,2,3,4,5 ( i assume you cant do this with brake on). you must mean park, reverse, drive? also seems like you know what you are doing. are the transmission solenoids easy to get to once pan is off. i plan on upgrading them to give some beef! PN 240 270 00 89 from mercedes
  2. right! im expecting 600-650 crank HP, so 475-525 WHP is plenty. i dont want to mess with tranny rebuild for sure, but i dont drive this car much or hard. i actually just bought a single K24 and its in the mail. it was a very good price and supposed to be in very good shape. at first i was a bit hesitant to do injectors....but its fine il do it if it comes to it, but i expect to keep the boost on safe side and should be fine with FPR. id LOVE to do the 3 inch exhaust but i dont want the drone everyone claims. im not sure i even know what it sounds like. either way, we gonna be based on 24/18 it seems. thanks for advice for sure!
  3. I have a slate gray 02TT tiptronic that i bought about 9 months ago for $42K. It is absolutely perfect and i got lucky with this one. since i have had it iv driven it about 1750 miles and only plan on about 3000/year. i had an 02 C2 6 speed that i totaled about a year ago. i opted for the beefier tiptronic this time because i knew my HP goals were bigger than stock and i dont want to go through all the clutches or cost associated with. plus, i dont think i can out shift the computer, and missing gears with lots of power can be a big mistake. my HP goal is to stretch the use of the factory fuel system to just under its ability. if i recall correctly this is about 650ish HP depending on who u talk with. so ultimately id like to see 600-650 HP. exhaust is first i suppose. having the tip and hearing all the complaints about the drone, i have narrowed choices to the speedtech quiet 2.5 X flow altho id like to run it with cat bypasses. but i must be honest...i dont guess i know what the drone sounds like!! i had fabspeed cat bypass on my C2 and it sounded great, maybe it had drone and i didnt know it! my other choice would be an X design from Markski. i think im ok with stock headers but have entertained the idea of stock extrude hone. guess it depends on the turbos i get too. regarding turbos, i have the stock k16's and it seems that the 24/18 upgrade and tune is the way to go. seems like i can pick up some good used ones for 12-1500$ and have them upgraded. with this in mind im totally open to other applications but i like the direct bolt on for ease. Markski, i looked at your custom ski 850gt's and like the idea of big power with lower boost. i expect this would preserve my engine internals as well. but the pricing was unclear if this is an upgrade and requires a core.... or is that a purchase price for free and clear turbos? i think a set of new 900$ or used 600+ GT2 intercoolers oughta do the trick and for the price u cant beat it. i dont mind boost hoses and Y pipe if airflow limits require it, plus they look cool. throttle body and MAFS should be easy enough too if im stressing the limits of stock intake flow, if not leave that stuff alone! id like to do all this myself, and im pretty handy around a car as i have built a hand full of ford motors. if i have to pay for installation, that pretty well breaks the budget. hince the 02TT!! if my math is correct i can do this for about 8000$ if i buy all new but i dont mind being patient and buying roughly all used (exhaust, IC's, Turbos)and be done around 5500-6500$ these are all plans for next 6 months as id like to collect the parts at get them all on at once. let me know if you guys think this gets me up around 600+ HP for some reason i cant respond to any of my post on 6speed, so il come over here for a while thanks for any help!!
  4. there is practically no difference between the two years or really even up to 04. 05 offers a turbo S. i do want a glove box and cup holder, so no 01 for me. im in the market for a 996 and have been deliberating on year model vs price vs whatever. i come back to same thing. why buy a 03 for $55,000 with 20000 miles when i can buy a 02 for $50K and 20000 all else being equal. the only answer i can give for myself, is to impress my neighbor. and thats not why im in it. iv got written down exactly what i want and when i find it, il buy it. 02TT slate gray on black, less than 20K miles, tiptronic (cuz i cant out shift the computer), il take X50 but not a must, little carbon fiber and full leather is great but not a must. bottom line is.... this is a sweet car! get exactly what you want, and there is no shame in getting a great deal....only wisdom!!! Um... he is asking about MY02 and MY03 996 Turbo - both are 420 HP.
  5. could they come back and say ...... well this is off road exhaust and this car shouldnt even be on the road so we are not payin?
  6. +1 u know im not familiar with the process of buying it back, id love to. i am the DIY type and would love to have some parts off this thing for sale, keep, and momento of my first 911. who do i buy from? insurance, auction or what? is it at a considerable discount, like 50%, 80% off or do u know?
  7. no thats funny, i was thinking the same thing. i had just gotten new tires last week (yokohama s drives) which i love. just done my 45,000 mile maintenance myself, just had the seats out last weekend and vacuumed and shampooed carpets, leather conditioner on every inch, hand wash sunday night.....uggg.... i had pretty well decided i was gonna keep it forever and buy a 996 TT when it was paid off and have a daily driver and a TT. i do have some fabspeed cat bypasses and headers but i dont have reciepts. i bought those 2 years ago off ebay.
  8. Does this look like a total from any of the pros out there?? i want to be able to argue with insurance if needed. both rear panels have buckles along with damage to both door panels. both airbags deployed, cracked windshield, busted driver window. some lady ran a light about 30 ft in front of me while i was goin about 60. it was a rather mild impact for the speed. i credit the car! i hope the pics loaded ok
