From everything I’ve seen, there is no difference internally between the mufflers.
The only difference is the outlet where the visible exhaust tips are bolted on.
We can speculate as to why they are different sizes - common guess is you can’t easily swap the tips without some modification.
I have confirmed though, that S tips slide right on to the Non-S muffler.

Hi everyone,I am looking at a low mileage CPO C2S that has the Bose High End sound package, Sport Chrono Plus and the 6 Disc changer but no navigation. Is it a possible to put in the factory nav unit? I'd be interested in keeping the stock unit, despite the limitations of the factory system. I am not looking for instructions, more of just a yes/no if it can be done.

This should take you 45minutes to 2.5 hours based on how familiar you are with the vehicle but as Loren mentioned it is not a difficult process at all. I have seen the TSBs and used them myself to install the changer, took me 30 minutes.

Amazing that this happened, and I'm very sorry to hear about it. This is a truly unfortunate case of PCNA ignorance. they ignored your claim, they didn't do anything about it, and waited for your engine to self destruct.
When you took to dealer, was it running? Would it run at all? were you really burning 1 qt / 100 miles??
I had a very severe oil consumption issue (1qt / 700 miles) that has since abated to 1 qt / 3,000 miles and I'm at 15k miles.
Again, sorry to hear about it.
I think the engine issue will be addressed to your satisfaction but I am curious to what the second opinion you get about the clutch "chatter" you describe will be. I have a non-s 2006 997 and have complained to the dealer about an annoyingly rough clutch engagement issue with similar response. Other 997's I drive from base model to DM GT3's do not exhibit such a characteristic and are very easy to drive. I find my own very finicky and virtually impossible for others to drive smoothly. Please keep us posted on your progress and good luck!I know exactly how you feel! The clutch stuff is really BS, as the clutch in my loaner '08 Cayman S (also with a dual mass flywheel) is great...no chatter, 0! I hope to find out about my car on Monday and will keep you guys posted. If Porsche does not do the right thing it may very well be my last...

997 Door Panel Removal
Hi - got some great painted parts from bumperplugs that I wanted to install, but couldn't find the documentation to remove the door panels for a 997. the 987 instructions are close, but different enough to cause a problem if you pry where you shouldn't. So here we go, I tried to document with enough pictures for you to do by yourself. As always, be careful and take precautions when working on your car and around airbags. The picture here is mine, from when I had the pictured bypass pipe welded in between the inlet and outlet on my standard 997S exhaust cans.
Cost me $175 to have done and sounds absolutely awesome - hard to discern from the OEM PSE that costs $2000.

You can use your org. muffler and do a simple mod like this and it will only costs you about $400 to have a great sprot engine sound!
I've seen people on the forums that indicate this mod can be done for under $200 by most reputable exhaust shops.

Here is the parts list.I do not know if any additional wiring is needed but I suspect that you will need to change some settings using a PIWIS.

I've got a 2006 997 S without TPMS. I've seen several posts that it cannot be retrofit on my car. I would love to know if you can figure out the part number for the computer module that receives the signals from the wheels - it must be possible to update my car. Especially because the wheels I just bought have the sensors built-in already.

No need to access config to fix your problem. Simply put Dension in the iPod GW mode, then hold FFwd for 15 seconds - artist names, track titles and albums all show up after doing this. I had same problem, couldn't access config, and this worked.

On a 997S, I performed the following modification, as the one shown above does not work the same on newer cars - it isn't that loud when performed on 997 cans.
Here is a 997S can that I had a crossover piped welded into - the result is amazing, and it is nearly impossible to tell the difference between this and the PSE for $2000.

I've seen both 997 and 996 exhausts next to each other, and the tube widths are identical

Good point - I'd LOVE the turbo spoiler on my Cab - would be perfect! Alas, it seems quite complicated. And I don't have a GT3 bumper yet... :(

AWE has pics to show the exhaust, not to document the install. The bumper isn't hard to remove, it's just that I'd be worried about chipping, scratching or dropping during removal - the bumpers come off much easier with 2 people to handle them during removal
And I almost forgot - there is no reason to remove the rear wheels for any of this work - wheels don't interfere with access to headers, cats or mufflers.

Check 6speedonline.com - you might find someone over there crazy enough to pull this off. As nice as that wing is, I've heard this mod requires quite a bit of changes with respect to installing the actuators...

I installed a PSE myself - 45 minutes.
I decided not to wire it up - I simply can't justify it as the exhaust isn't that loud. The extra work to install the wiring is totally unnecessary as the PSE unwired defaults to the "loud" setting.

I've had three different exhausts on my car, and I can confirm, there is absolutely no reason to remove the rear bumper when removing or replacing the exhaust. It is easy to do, and all bolts are very easy to access, especially compared to the Boxster. I can now R&R my exhaust in less than 45 mins.
