mrmickeymouse,
the spacers were really just 1/8 thick flat aluminum squares with holes drilled in them for the caliper bolts to pass through - could be very easily made at home.
the rotors are another story - as chboxster points out, they are machined to some sort of tolerance....
-
I also wanted to add, they use a group called Race Technologies to make up the kits. The rears come with specially machined rotors and two little spacers for the each caliper.
The set-up went one easily with just one minor snafu.

My thread is also kicking around here, but I just upgraded my stock brakes to Boxster S brakes on my 97.
Total time for the conversion was about 4.5 hours
I got the kit from Suncoast for $1,550 on eBay. Ric at Suncoast has said he CANNOT offer the kit to anyone at the same price, but can come close. He can be reached at 877-923-1700, opt 2.
I don't have an affiliation with Suncoast, I just enjoy their great service attitude.

Thanks guys for your help - definitely a robust thread.
In fact, I spoke with Suncoast about this issue, and their advice is the same, switch out the crossover pipe and bleed screws.
I like the solution and will do my best to get those darn fittings off without buggering up the paint.
If you are a concours judge, then you must be disgusted looking at my dirty wheel wells, undercarriage and suspension bits....
-
Dude - you are so right. I totally screwed up.. The others 3 are have the bleeders are on the high side. Guess I need to call Suncoast.
Brakes are super solid right now, so I've got them bled as best I can, I would expect them to get better.
Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're planning, but the stock boxster S brakes will not fit a non-s easily. The fronts will be fine, but the back ones won't clear the ebrake, the rotors are not quite the right size.
I just bought the upgrade kit for my 97 for $1550 from Suncoast.

Wanted to post a quick one with pics and all of my recent brake upgrade on my 97. I got the kit off ebay from Ric at Suncoast - great deal at $1550. My understanding is that Ric CANNOT match the $1550, but can offer at a pretty competitive price - much less than the $3250 retail. The brakes fit perfectly under my stock boxster design 17" wheels - some had been worried about clearance.
Here we go -
This is drivers side front - went on no problem, the kit was complete with stainless lines, new caliper bolts and calipers with pads and sensors. The rotors are sweet - and much bigger than the ones I took off. Only tough part was that just about every brake line fitting was seized tight, and the brass nuts on the lines is really easy bugger up.
Here's the driver side rear - some have been worried that the e-brake would not fit correctly. I suppose this could be true if you use and S kit, but this kit is designed for a 97 to 02 non-S boxster, so no problems. I didn't even have to adjust the ebrake.
This pic is just an extra 'cause I like my new jack.
All done, here is the wheel back on, with my new rubber too...
Here is the front end, looks great, the red is super bright.
All-in-all, a hugely worthwhile upgrade. I swear they feel stronger than my old brakes. The stainless lines made a difference I'm sure, but the brakes have a larger swept area, and potentially less stopping area. Definitely less fade, as the calipers are way bigger.

Dude - that is the most amazing documentation of an DIY hack I've seen yet!
Congrats on a job well done!

I am just kicking off a 3.4 upgrade, and several others are working on them now. Check www.ppbb.com for more info.
Another thing you may want to think about is just buying a slightly used 2.5L motor, as they are pretty cheap right now - $2,500 USD or so.
For a 3.4L upgrade, I would plan for between $12,000 USD and $20,000 USD for a complete engine upgrade from a reputable shop.
I know FVD in Germany does them and JSeven, a member over on PPBB had them do his. He loved it and drove the car for 3 years with the upgrade with no problems.
Good luck.

Anybody know the part number for the socket that the headlight assembly plugs in to?
Mine has a broken clip, which keeps it from being securely mounted to the car. When trying to re-install the light assembly, I get a very weak connection, and the lights in the headlight either work dimly or not at all.
Thanks!

What size spacers did you get?
-
Thanks Barry - your solution is what I have been planning. May have to document the paint job as a "hack" and get meself published - if it works out.

Pictures please! Sounds fantastic

What are the part numbers for the convertible top cables?
My understanding is that there are two versions - an older "update" that required new transmissions, and a newer "update" that doesn't.
My dealer just required me to put in new cables and transmissions, and I am wondering if I really needed them.
Thanks

Question for the forum: Has anyone painted their rollbar, or is it just too hard to get right?
Is it worth removing the bar all together to have the body shop spray it or should I just mask it up and have at it?
Thanks

I see that Suncoast Porsche is selling the Litronic kit for $1,095 which seems like a good deal.
Anybody else have a source? Suncoast Litronics
Thanks

Thanks man! Especially for the quick response.
I was thinking this looked a bit too easy.

Most excellent. Has the factory fixed this for certain model years?
I've got a 97, what are the odds of needing a new RMS?
Thanks!
-
Any chance you have a before and after pic of this operation?
And as a newbie, am I correct in assuming the solder iron trick gets all the amber out of the lenses? If so, this looks like a sweet hack indeed!
And one last question, what is the part number for the little triangles that aren't part of the main light? They need to be clear too....
Thanks!
