  1. I bought an interchangeable pad that goes on my floor jack from ebay make specifically for the 996/986. It has a Teflon pad to protect the car during jacking. The pin is machined to fit exactly into the hole in the cars jack pad. Machined from a solid blank of high quality steel and then powder coated. Highly recommended.

  3. I too have a C4 cab. When I purchased my car it had 17" wheels with the Michelin PS A/S on it and I promptly picked up some 18" Sport Designs with Contis. The Michelins were almost new and I hated to waste them so I use them for dry winter days. My logic being that they are at least appropriate for winter temperatures even if they don't significantly improve foul weather traction. So, I drive the 911 on a limited basis during the winter to keep from having to store it. That way I get to cycle through a few tanks of fuel and keep the battery charged. Plus, it's great to put the top down on a crisp day when it hits the 50s here in DC.

    I'm fortunate enough to have 3 AWD vehicles and I have snow tires for each of the other two (Audi S8 and Acura MDX) so I don't have to drive the P-car. I've been caught in an inch or two of snow with the A/S and it wasn't a disaster but I don't think I'd want to do it on purpose. I also feel a bit vulnerable in the Porsche when everybody around me starts sliding. When I wear out the A/Ss I plan to get some dedicated winter tires for it too. I guess I have bit of a snow obsessionrolleyes.gif

  4. I elected not to do this myself since I have a C4 and DON'T own a lift. However, if you are interested in having this done and live anywhere near Baltimore, MD, call GT Performance in Edgewood. I bought my ROW M030 kit from Sunset for $1065 shipped and they installed it and aligned the car for less than $700. Truly a great deal and a really great improvement over initial ride quality. My car had 60K miles so wear on the original suspension may have played a part. All in all, a good investment.

    I would def. go to Gennady at GT Performance in Edgewood. He is the best around the area, both in expertise and pricing. He is a PCA club member and prof. racer, so he knows his Pcars. He gives discounts to PCA members as well. Good luck!

  6. I recently received my new M030 suspension parts for my '03 C4 cab. from Jeff at Sunset and have been trying to find a local installer. The quotes have been significantly higher than others around the country have reported(>$1000 plus alignment). Does anyone know what Porsche quotes as the time for this R&R? Also, has anyone done this mod in the Balt./Wash. area and who did the work and at what price?

  7. My 02 Boxster S has been sitting in the garage for a week due to weahter. I decided to start her up this morning to bring her up to operating temp, but she won't start.

    When I turn the key, everything lights up, but I get a tick, tick, tick sound. No engine turnover.

    Any thoughts?

    You've gotten about 5 years out of the OEM battery, consider yourself fortunate! Replacing it is fairly easy but you have to climb into the trunk.

  8. I've had a K&N Air charger on my '03 C4 Cab for about a year now. (8K miles) No CEL to date. AMAZING sound improvement for the price! Difficult to say if there is an improvement in hp but it certainly feels that way(could be just the better sound). I also think there's an improvement in throttle response. That having been said, I worry about driving in heavy rain given the possibility of introducing water into the engine and I worry about the decrease in air filtration causing more dirt to get in and possibly causing sludging. Any thoughts?

  9. I'm running the Continental SC2's right now on my 2003 C4 cab. I received them with a set of 18" Sport Design rims I bought about 10K miles ago. They had about 90% tread on them when I got them and I honestly think they're about 75% now. That translates into a long life compared to what I've heard from other people. My driving style could certainly be characterized as spirited and these tires have never let me down wet or dry. To tell the truth, the car has a lot more to give than I'm willing to take! :rolleyes:

    My current wheels are the porsche 19" turbo twists (19 x 11 - 64 ET) and I have 275/30/19's on the rears. The tires look really narrow and look actually narrower than the rim itself. Anyway, turns out that my rears have been underinflated for quite a while and I inflated them last week. A day later, I noticed two fat bulges on the inside sidewall of the rears. So to make a long story short, I need to swap them out.

    I'd like to go with 295/30/19 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position tires.

    The question is whether or not I'll have any issues fitting bigger tires on this wheel. I really want to avoid any rubbing or really bad handling.

    I don't have much to offer on sizes for your wheels. I do know that 275/30's are too narrow for those rims(but then so do you now, right?) What I wanted to share was the caution not to have two different kinds of tires front and rear. Having tires with different grip, side wall stiffness, and or tread design on the same car could make for some exciting handling characteristics(not my kind of excitement)!

    I just changed the battery in my 996 and learned that, despite what I was told by the PCA tech expert, a Becker CDR-220 in a MY03 still requires a radio code! Fortunately, I learned on this site how to find my Serial #(5031431) and type(4462). Can anyone help with the code? I'm heading to the Hershey, PA Porsche Swap Meet this Saturday morning and my daughter says she won't come with me if I only have a "flat-6 symphony" to offer her.

  12. Congrats on the new member of the family! I bought my 2003 C4 cab back in May. Mine's midnight blue/beige and I got it CPO @ HBL Porsche in the DC area. So far, I have had pretty good luck with the car. My one experience with Porsche service was pretty favorable but if I had been paying the bill it would have been over $2000 to fix an exhaust rattle and chase a ghost in one of the gauges. So, I guess it depends on how much the warranty is going to cost. I'm very happy that I have two more years...

    You know, I've asked a local p-car dealer if they would do a CPO on a used, but still-under-the-warranty car and they assured me that it can't be done! They said that the only way a p-car dealer can issue a CPO status is by selling a used car. So I guess it was the usual dealer BS, then? How much did you pay to CPO a car?

    Just to clarify, I bought a preowned '03 from the Porsche dealer. I believe that the dealer was correct in telling you that they only extend the warranty on cars they sell. Further, they can still CPO a car even if the original warranty has expired. At that point the coverage is for 2 years or a max of 100K miles. As for the cost, there is no explicit charge for CPO status but there's no question that it costs probably a few thousand more when you buy it CPO from the dealer as opposed to from a private party though, as I said, it's already saved me a couple grand not to mention the peace of mind factor. An important point that I read somewhere is that if you buy a p-car from a non-Porsche dealer any remaining warranty time is voided. Something to check into if you find yourself in that situation. All in all, I'm very happy with the Porsche experience so far and I have no doubt I'll be getting a CPO 997TT in about 5 years. I'm already excited about that!

Having debate with some friends...buy or not buy extended warranty? from local dealership or elsewhere? Came through PPI w flying colors. Went out of warranty about 1 month before purchase. help?
