  1. Yeah; I thought about that but was hoping for a cleaner way. The area is very tight with many hoses and wires that run next to this hose. Well, I may resort to cutting if I cannot find or make a U-shape separator. Thanks, Eric
  2. I wanted to change the water hose #23 (PET Illustration 105-05; 2003 996, 6-sp manual), but I could not get the old #23 hose off where it connects to the hard alumimum pipe. It is press-fitted and secured by a C-clamp. I was able to take off the C-clamp but was unable pull the hose off. I cannot get any leverage. Any hints or suggestions? Special tools needed? Hose #23 is on the right/passenger rear section of the engine that bends around the right motor mount. I called Sunset Porsche and they said to check the Service Manual and see if there is a special tool. If there is, it will list the tool part number. Help please. Thanks, Eric
  3. I installed the water pump and a small elbow hose. It's working great. Thanks for the tips and specs, Loren. 4. Thanks, Loren! One more question please. I also plan to replace some water hoses. I noticed the big one on the right/passenger side near the muffler goes from below the engine and up to the upper side into a metal bracket. Is that hose a one-piece unit with the metal bracket or does it somehow slip into the metal bracket and gets secured by that wire clip? Thanks, Eric
  5. Hi Loren, I read the great DIY posts and video on the water pump replacement and will need to do it. I could not find the torque specs. Do you know the torque specs for the various bolts? Mainly: the 7 (10mm) water pump bolts engine support bolts (15mm) exhaust catalytic converter bracket bolts (13 mm) An interesting side note: my 2003 C-2 with a reman engine built around 5/2006 uses external torx bolts for the 7 (10mm E-torx) bolts securing the water pump and another 10mm E-torx on the engine carrier bracket. Thanks, Eric
  6. Hi Loren, Sorry from changing the topic, but do you know if rear rims 18x10 et 48 will fit my 996 C-2 coupe? I know the OEM is 18x10 et 65 and the new offset will push the rim out 17 mm (about .6 of an inch). Will this stick out too far? Thanks, Eric
  7. My 996 C-2 has 52,000 miles and the front pads are getting close to the wear limit. I want to change them before the light triggers. The rotors are at 26.873 mm (1.058 inches) and 27.0256 mm (1.064 inches). I know the minimum limit is 26 mm (1.0236 inches) and they come new at 28 mm (1.1023622 inches). 2 mm between new and the service limit is a relatively small window, but I have been able to go 50K+ miles so far. Should I replace the rotors with the pads or just the pads? Thanks for any input. (I inadvertently posted this in the 997 forum)
  8. I will need item 1, the smaller of the two pieces. After staring at the diagram, it looks like that is a picture of the driver's side view with item 1 being in the front and 2 at the rear. Please provide part number and price of item 1, but the right (passenger side). Thanks.
  9. That's ok. Does anyone need a C4s right air duct cheap? 996.504.104.00: Just to confirm, this is the piece that goes to the inside of the wheel well and is the one that goes in front of the wheel. The little rubber flap attaches to this liner. Do you happen to have the price for the right wheel liner? Thanks, Eric
  10. Hi Loren, I received the parts and installed the Left air duct. However, the Right air duct (996.504.604.01) appears too large and has two too many tabs. Could there be another part number like 996.504.604.01 but is slightly smaller like the size of the left side? I also need the part number for the passenger side (right) wheel well liner and price. I think that is number 2 in the picture. Thanks again, Eric
  11. Bingo! Thanks, Loren. Thinking back, I bet these parts ripped off when my car was taken to the dealer by flat bed.
  12. Hi Loren, I checked underneath again and the #4 parts in the picture are not them, but next to #4 and the rubber flap with the part number 996.504.504.03 for the passenger side. These missing pieces look like they are held in by 5 one-inch rubber tabs and fit underneath the bumper between part #4 and that rubber flap. Thanks, Eric
  13. I would suspect the missing pieces are #4 (left and right). I assume the picture is for a 2002+ bumper. Mine is a 2003 standard bumper. The picture is not very clear but it looks like it would fit under that section below the bumper. I wonder if the tech at the dealership forgot to reinstall them after he cleaned the radiators. Do you know the part numbers and cost? If they're not too expensive, I will order them. Thanks again, Loren.
  14. I have a 2003 C-2 Coupe, 6-speed without the third radiator. However, underneath of each side of the bumper there is a hole between the underside of the bumper and wheel well flap. I know this area is for the hot air to escape the radiators, but it looks like I am missing a panel or something. There are one-inch slots that holds rubber tabs. On mine, I just have the rubber tabs that fit into these one-inch slots, but no panel/part that connects to these tabs. It looks like an object sheared off both panels from the rubber tabs. Am I missing two pieces? If so, what are the part numbers? Thank.
  15. What are the factory's recommended alignment specs for a 2003 996, C-2 with US M030? and compared with X-74? I searched this topic but could not find anything. Thanks.
  16. Check your paper work. If it was certified, you should have at least a two-year warranty through Porsche. :)
  17. According to my service adviser, you only get the remaining balance of your new car warranty since Porsche paid for this reman. engine. In my case, Porsche paid for the engine so I did not get the 2 year warranty on it. When I purchased the car new, I did buy an extended warranty so if it happens again within the next 3 years, the third-party company will pay for it and I will get the 2-year warranty. Since you bought yours used, did you get it certified? If not, you might want to consider a good 3-party warranty company.
  18. My 2003 C2 (built 2/03) had the same problem at 23,000 miles and was replaced under warranty with a remanufactured engine. If Porsche picked up the bill, you will not get the 2-year warranty. If you or a third-party warranty company pays for the bill, you will get the 2 years; this was according to my service adviser. Mine was replaced last month and the engine appears to have all external parts built in May and June of 2006. I anticipate yours will be built around the same time which is good. You will have all of the updates and lots of new external parts. Had this occurred outside of warranty, it would have costed about $13,000.
  19. That is weird, my 2003 996 C-2, built in 2/2003 suffered the same fate at 23,000 miles. No DE or track events, just a semi-daily driver to and from work. The intermediate shaft broke and made the initial grinding noise followed by a metal bolt-noise bouncing around the engine. When I parked it, most of my oil leaked out at the front of the engine. My new-car warranty expires in 6-months, but I lucky bought a 7/70. This happened two weeks ago and I just got it back last Wednesday. So far so good, but the 2000-mile break-in is painful. For information, the dealer said it costed $11,000 and would have cost me $13,000 if it were out of warranty. PCNA will not extend the warranty because they paid for this reconditioned one. If I or a third-party warranty provider paid for it, then I would have the 2-year warranty on the engine. I got a "reconditioned" engine with lot of new parts and the oil cap with the picture of the oil can like the 997s and not tilted. I see a built dated of 28/05/06; I assume this means May 28, 2006. However, I also see another part near the water pump that has the number "1", a circle date with an arrow pointing to a number, and "06" on the other side of the circle -- possibly January __, 2006. The engine number now is #M96/ 03AT66566XXX, the old number is #M96/ 0366316XXX. I bet the "AT" stands for replacement or reconditioned.
  20. I am thinking about adding the GT3 wing to my '03 996 C-2. However, would the older, first generation GT3 wing fit? I assume it would just like the 2nd generation. Thanks.
  21. This happened to my radio too. I have the upgraded Bose system and all I got was the visual display, but no audio. I brought it in under warranty and they first changed the headunit (last year). It acted up again this year and they recently "upgraded the amp" and/or the amp's software. So far so good.
