  1. I also have some issues with the sim card slot of my PCM2 unit: the sim card is also suddenly "unreadable" as the unit says it cannot find a sim card or the sim card is unreadable...

hopefully, it's working fine 90% of the time but all suddenly I got the problem and have to eject and re-insert the sim card...

maybe try a contact cleaner to see if it's get better ?

the sim card "drawer" has some tiny metallic parts inside that could be dirty or something...

mine is a "recent" unit: from a MY2004 car, pretty unacceptable for such expensive cars

  2.

I did not noticed you were asking for 997 ! , the pressure I listed are for the 996s !!

anyway, from the 997 owner manual: it seems Porsche provide a tire sealant kit instead of spare wheel

they mention a optional collapsible spare wheel ( I suppose that's the one you have ?!)

pressure should be mentionned on the pressure plate located on your driver's door aperture

  3. Thanks for the help - its getting installed on Saturday, so will first try and find out if the OPC will 'fix'the issue for me, otherwise its time to explore the relays myself!

if it's a new install, you don't need to cut any diode, just ask your dealer to leave the grey/pink wire supposed to go to the speedometer disconnected.

That will do the job: as the PSE does not receive any speed info, it will think the car is idle and let the sound loud

it's easier than cutting a diode and you can change your mind (I doubt so) later on by just reconnecting the wire...

That's how I've done it (asked my dealer not to connect the wire) but they were already aware of the trick...

Works fine and won't scare your dealer (some may be scarred at cutting brand new relays :-) )

  4. Guys,

my point was not that p-cars brakes feeling is wrong but rather the totally different feeling between the "old" generations like the 993 and the latest water cooled models...

As stated, I previously owned a 993TT and the feeling was more like what others describe as the "BMW" style

I'm curious to see if some have an technical explanation on this difference...

Izzy mentionned pagid pads that would change the feeling but I'm "scared" by the pads noise as I'm a city driver and don't plan to track the car...

  5. Depending on the fiber optic emitter, the cable quality *IS* important, running a loosely repaired cable will force the emitter to retransmit the signal at an abnormaly high rate...

Maybe you can try shops like blacbox which carry IT fiber optics tools & cables for reasonable prices

or from an electrician doing IT cabling, as fiber optic is widely used in modern buildings

probably cheapest than paying a Porsche Dealer to fix it !

    just my 2c

  6. That is exactly what I thought when I first got my 02 C4S.

Coming from a BMW 540i where the brakes are super sensitive, and only needs little effort,

you could feel the pads biting and pulling on the rotors.

pfeww , I'm happy to see I'm not the only one with the feeling :-)

your description is exactly what I feel, so well I'll learn to live with it and stop bugging my dealer about it

I'll try to get a 997 for a quick eval and compare both...

    thanks for your input

  7. To the brake experts out there:

I'm "surprised" by my brake pedal hardness...

    let me explain:

I personally feel I need to push it "hard" to get the car braking (compared to other cars)

Car is a ROW MY04 996 C4S with about 9k miles on it, completely stock (no mods)

I come from a 993TT where the brake pedal was in my opinion "softer", no need to push it hard to get the car braking to a satisfactory level

The brake pads are still the first set and my mechanic laughed at me when i suggested they may need to be changed <_<

It's been a while since I drove a 996 so I can't remember if the other 996s I've tried before had the same behaviour or not...

so if you also previously owned a 993, please tell me how you think the brakes in your 996 feel in comparison !

    Thanks for your help
