  1. BUMP...need updates from those with chatter...Skate???

My problem has returned! Now have approx. 12,000km on my 997 C4S and I'm experiencing the same clutch problems outlined in previous posts. Once clutch warms up I experience stalling, and vibration/chattering when starting in first gear. Extremely dificult to launch car without stalling, even worst in reverse. It's like I suddening forget how to drive the car. Has anyone else experienced this problem??

Sorry you are having this problem. My problem was resolved when I replaced and bled the brake/clutch hydraulic fluid. Would have never thought it a cause. You might give it a go.

  2. Have the same issue as yours on a 2005 Carrera S, 12,000 miles. Clutch "chatters" slightly when engaging at low RPM. Strangely enough, and this makes no sense, the "chattering" is worse when I am in reverse. Dealer says it's normal. I do not beleive it is. Drove newer Carrera S (2007) and was smooth. Would like to know if your issu resolves after new parts. Thanks.

I am having the same problem on a newly replaced clutch of chatter in reverse and first. Seems to be getting worst. The clutch was replaced while warranty work was being done with the rms. I thought it might be a brokem engine mount. Curious if there are any answers to this.

  3. Not at all to be honest. Other than the fact that the muffler is louder than stock, it behaves just like the stock exhaust does. There is no RPM or frequency where things are loud and annoying or it sounds particularly annoying at a certain RPM.

    Jim,

From the clips, it sounds like it is a little deeper and bit more loud than stock. I like the stock tone, just does not have enough volume. Maybe this will work for me and from I can tell at $700, a second mortgage is not necessary. You happy?

  4. Chris,

Where did you find the plastic. Been looking for some for the front speaker upgrade and all I have been able to find is lexan.

the black frame is 'wood'. it's actually a leftover piece of Pergo flooring (which is why 'wood' is in quotes ;) ) that i cut holes in and spray painted.

what are you trying to do to the front speakers?

Making a panel to replace the speaker similar to the rings that don't seem to be available anymore. The hack of cutting out the speaker and using the basket will not work with the speakers I am using. They are smaller than the existing opening. I have cut 4 out of lexan and just need to route the openings for the speaker. I made a template in cad and when I see how well it works this weekend I will post a pdf. The lexan material is difficult to work with. How hard is it to cut pergo?

  5. I agree, though I rarely use the stereo. Made a big difference and my 16 YO appreciates it when he rides with me. Harvey's kit is great!

you could always DIY for $70. ;)

  6. I just did this mod on a 03 986 and having an intermittent problem. When the lights are turned on it occasionally lights up the battery and oil pressure idiot light. The lights come on but the two idiot lights don't go out until the car is turned off. They don't come back on when it is re-started. Strangely enough, I had the exact same thing happen when I re-connected the battery after some work this weekend.

The first time it happened I was doing 75 on the interstate and the second time was in the garage from a cold start. When I stopped the car the first time I noticed that the spoiler had not retracted properly. It is apparently freaking the electrical system somehow. Could one of my ballasts be bad?

Postscript--The folks at CQLight are sending a resistor wire harness. They say it will stop the problem.

  7. This afternoon, I installed the Gateway 500 in my MY03 C2. I purchased the unit from maxxcount.de in Germany two weeks ago for $509 USD. Install was painless and took around 30 minutes. Only thing left to do is configure the head unit to recognize a CD Changer, which Autobahn Porsche in Fort Worth, TX will do for no charge.

    Here are some pics:

Looks like a pretty nice system but I am curious about a couple of things. Which head unit are you using? Curious if the song/artist info come thru the display on a CDR-24. Also, when you leave the ipod in the holder, does it turn on and off with the system?

  8. If I remember correctly the finish on my03 (non S) calipers was not paint but actually anodized aluminum, but the dye color was black that's why they look slightly different.

Now that your's are weathered they may look slightly silver.

    Al,

That explains why I could not tell the original color. Great explanation--Thanks. Still can't decide what I want to do with them if anything.

  9. I was thinking of painting the calipers on a 2003 base boxster. I came from a restoration background where you repair , replace or refinish as it came from the factory. That said, what is the collective thinking when it comes to a modern day Porsche? My initial thoughts were to paint them black as I assumed that was original but after looking harder at the calipers I am not sure they were not silver. By the way, I have white decals from xenonmods on the way.

    Thanks for any input!
