  1. No, I only got the shifter by itself also. I had to get the B&M installation guide to remove the center console. Once the console was out, rest was pretty easy.
  2. Ok, I got it fixed yesterday. They were able to reseal it and only charged me $100. I also had to fix my key ignition mechanism. Few days ago I couldn't remove my key and it took me about 2-3 minutes to take it out. I tried to put the key back and tried to turn the key and I felt some resistance and felt very weird. I tried to start the car and everything seems to be fine but aircondition/heat wasn't working. The dealership fixed that issue under my extended warranty.
  3. That is funny. I got rid of mine also because I was setting off my other car's alarm everytime I start the car. But I kinda want the pipe back again.
  4. hmmm, I didn't measure mine... I wonder what mine will come out to.
  5. It was very simple. Here is the steps that I took. (I used B&M installation guide) 1) Remove shifter boot. (I found out it's easier removing from bottom back) There should be one screw you have to remove. 2) Take out three screws from glove compartment. One underneat rubber pad. One under the coin holder. One under after removing plastic bottom. 3) Take out the ashtray and there are two plastic screws (I had to hinge with swiss army knife to take it out. Otherwise it just spins) 4) Take out the piece with buttons. There is a light wire, and windows switch wires that you have to remove. 5) There should be one screw you have to remove. 6) You have to remove two side pad next to the bottom front center console. (cd holder part) 7) To remove bat wing, there are small hole or opening on top side of the bat wing and I put my finger there and pull it out. 8) To remove center console, it's easier if passenger side seat is flat down. Becareful with the brake handle cover. Remove the tap on top side first and gently lift up. If you try to remove it from bottom first than you might break the tap. Warning: there is a wire at goes into the console. I almost rip it out by mistake. 9) There are four screws that holds the shifter housing and two clips that holds the two shifter cable. Before removing the cable, count or mark the position of the screw holes. For mine, it was position 8 on left cable and position 4 on right cable.(counting from left side) 10) put the new unit and reverse it back. Hope this help
  6. I'm trying to get service people to call me back with available spots so they can check out the windshield. I've ask service person how much it will cost if I have to pay for it and he told me around $250 if they can get the windshield out and if they can't get it out then around $900.
  7. Cool! thanks for the info. I'll talk to my local dealership about this. Thanks
  8. Do anyone knows how much it cost to reseal the winshield? Mine is making some sqeaking noise. It's 996 coupe if it makes any difference.
  9. There is a porsche code number on top of the housing unit. I've got first three set number but rest is hidden under the console. It's 996 424 983
  10. Final results. It took me around 30-40 minutes from start to finish. The shifter also looks better since it lost about inch height. The shifter feels very good and solid.
  11. Short shifter picture #2. It's hard to tell but the plastic bushing looks the same as the old one.
  12. I got it last night and I will try to install it tonight. The housing looks just like the original ones. This factory short shifter suppose to be 33% shorter than the stock. I believe B&M is 40%. I like this unit better than the B&M since it's short shifter with the housing unit. I don't have to worry about removing the old shifter and trying to put the B&M shifter in to the housing.
  13. That's very nice looking install. I placed mine on sun screen visor. I think I will try that trick. I'm using the power from (If my memory serves me right) cellular phone power line from radio.
  14. Check this out! One of my neighbor got this and I'm getting one also. My neighbor called him directly and found out that it's a porsche dealership in florida. He wasn't selling one on ebay when I wanted mine so I called him directly and ordered from the dealership. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33736
  15. I had the Fabspeed exhaust bypass pipe. It was really really loud and I liked it a lot but it was setting my other car's alarm so I got rid of it.
  16. I got 1999 996 coupe and I have a strange window problem. First time it happen was late last year. I lock the car with the remote(windows closed) and went to a store and when I came back out I noticed window was half opened. About two months ago, while I was driving the car, I wanted to close the windows and when I push the button the windows went up about 3-4 inches and went down all the way. I tried again and it went up 3-4 inches again and went down all the way. At third time it came up just like normal. I thought about calling the dealership but it didn't happen again for a while so I just let it be. But yesterday it did a same thing again. I had to press two more times to make it go up. I've already called up the service guy at the dealership and they are going to get me in three weeks(dealership was willing to look at the car this week but I had a problem with my schedule). So before I take the car in for a service, has anyone heard of this problem? I thought I've heard something similar in one of Boxster forum but can't find it.
