  1. In the UK the replacement seal is only guaranteed as long as your warranty. So if its replaced with a day toi run on the warranty, then their work is guaranteed for a day - sucks huh !! Extended warranty gives us a chance in the UK, but its still down to how your face fits
  2. If its not been used at all in 4 months then the seals may have dried out and you've lost the refridgerant. You should run the A/C for at least 20 minutes every week to keep everything lubed
  3. Sorry to hear the news.... part of the Porsche experience it seems. Scousers has gone again btw - this one last 100 miles. So much for the latest seal design, fitting them dry and the blue bolts !
  4. ..... drumroll............... Cayman Oh my Gawd :( Bad translation from Auto Motor Und sport magazine Porsche Boxster Coupé is called Cayman under the independent name Cayman brings to Porsche in the spring 2006 the Boxster Coupé on the market. World premiere is to already be on the Frankfurt IAA in the autumn 2005. The Porsche selling people want to position the Cayman - as it could be different - over the Boxster: both concerning the price and technically. Because of the Coupé body more rigid in relation to the open version the Cayman is to offer a still more precise and agileres handling than the Boxster. As motorizing at the beginning of only the s-version with 3,2-Liter-Sechszylinder and 320 HP one offers. In the case of cockpit organization and equipment there is to be however no considerable differences to the roadster. The model name Cayman wakes associations to crocodiles: Kaimane are an alligator kind.
  5. Good choice of tyres and a great set of alloys - maybe too nice for the salt/snow !
  6. I did the bulb swap to HID - detailed here >>>>> Clickie
  7. Well i've done the HID upgrade by swapping the bulbs out and replacing with the Xenon units and ballast boxes. Theres so much room behind the light unit in the 986/996 that securing the ballasts to the rear of the headlight unit presents no fouling issues. Get a lot more light output. Negative is that the beam pattern is still limited by the std headlight glass lens. Second negative is that for the UK i should have headlight levelling and washer system. Will not pass the annual inspection test (MOT) but since this doesn't kick in til the car is 3 yrs old i'm not bothered at the moment. Xenons Upgrade Sample of before and after...
  8. Hi guys, can anyone tell me whether the earlier hardtop with the 'ears' will fit a 2004 model. I know i'll need a fitting kit / spinlocks, but will the actual top fit ??
  9. Based in the Uk its difficult to answer the US related queries. Don't worry about the first four questions - go test drive one and you'll be smiling too much to ask the questions.
  10. BMW Carbon black, or MB Obsidin Black ??
  11. Thanks guys, got sorted at a Porsche meet two weeks go. Second hand set for $36 (£20 GBP). They have three small scratches on them, two from me !! I do like those crested ones though, maybe when mine get a few more marks on them.
  12. Thanks Loren, I feared they may be sold in pairs, been offered new right hand one for $35 ! Will check with dealer just in case there's a chance.
  13. Part number for carbon fibre door sill guard, 2.7 Boxster, left hand sill (ie UK passengers, US drivers side), with Boxster logo (not S) Are these available separately, or only in pairs , and any idea on price (£ or $)
  14. At 2.5 years old, and provided it has a full OPC service then should all be doen under goodwill. Print a few of the articles around on RMS and take them with you - once they know you've done your homework they will most likley pay all.
  15. Well yes, the root cause may be the cylinder not being correct. There is only one way to amend this, but Porsche will not replace engines without trying a cheaper option first. We would be no different ourselves. Faced with £400 for a seal change that might work, or £10k for an engine change that isn't guaranteed either, which would you choose first ?? Whatever the issue, it is not one that can be resolved easily - if that was the case surely Porsche would have done something by now?. Even if only 1% of cars are affected, this is still a considerable number of 986s/996s.
  16. Might only be a short term solution, and only worth looking at if your faced with the RMS ill yourself, but Liqui-Moly sell an Oil Leak stop product designed to swell worn/ill fitting seals www.liqui-moly.de Under Additives, Oils, Cars
  17. I think the stock tweeters are only 0.75", so this limits direct swaps. I think MB Quart do a component set of 0.75", 4" and 5.75"
  18. Mark, 996 are prone to leaks from a few areas, not just the RMS. If it is the RMS then OPC will probably charge £500-£600, assuming not covered by any warranty (the Porsche one is now cheaper, and includes the RMS now) Specialist Cars in Malton, Yorks are advertising RMS reseals for £299 (not sure whether that includes the vat tho) I'm sure Loren or TP will recognise that bracket and where it is near. Best of Luck

    A/C is out

If not turned on regularly, even for ten minutes a week, the seals dry out and perish - you have probably lost the gas as a result. I just hope you don't need new seals.
  20. Ian, do sympathise, and on paper you did all the right pre purchase things (check history with dealer, independent expert inspection etc), however, the truth is that in the UK we do not get the warranty back up and customer service the guys over the pond get. Get the leaks sorted, a full suspension geometry setup and the smile will return. One consolation is that if yoy'd bought the Fiat, you would have shelled out at least twice as much by now, and had the car off the road a lot longer.
  21. Ian, did this come from an OPC with approved used scheme - if so tell em you want your money back, obviously not up to your, or the schemes, standards. You could also try getting an independent inspection and presenting this to the garage. RMS and cam cover leaks are common. Overheating could be blocked rads at front (leaves etc). Suspension top plates maybe just a consequence of 60K miles on UK roads with big wheels and hard suspenion (something has to give !) Sounds like the car needs a good going over and sorting tho - and not at your expense.
  22. Front 7J x 17 ET55 Rear 8.5J x 17 ET48 these are the sizes for the Boxster S II wheel from Europe
