  1. Yesterday I had my radar detector plugged into the 12v socket and noticed the voltage immediately drop to 12.5v from a normal 13.5v to 14.5v. This seemed a little extreme. After parking and removing the radar detector, I returned to the car about 2 hours latter and, while it was not dead, it was as if the battery was on its last legs. After 3 tries it started up and soon returned to normal voltage of 13.8 without the radar detector attached. I have to wonder if it is a problem with the 12v charger. My Cayman S has also been reprogramed.
  2. Just traded my 2002 996 C4S for a 2014 Sapphire Blue Cayman S with PDK. Only 5 more horsepower than the 911 but it feels like 50. Hard to figure that the best sports car made by Porsche is their weakest seller. It is sweet!
  3. Are Fikse Wheels worth the cost? I have a 2002 C4S and do about 5 or 6 track days a year. I do like their looks but would they be over kill and not worth the expense? I would welcome any opinions.
  4. I lost all my upper gears (R,1,3,5) last spring. Moving the shifter upward felt like moving into jello. Turned out to be a simple shift cable retaining clip that cost $21.80. It might be worth looking into.
  5. Update. You were so right in your diagnosis. Snapped retaining clip for the cable. Dealer is charging $180 to fix. I was told that a new cable would cost $350 and take 2 1/2 hours labor. Thanks for the expert input.
  6. Thanks so much for the info and I hope it solves the issue. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks!
  7. Right. I cannot shift into those gears. Feels like jello with no locking in.
  8. 2002 C4S 6 speed Coupe 43,000 miles Just lost upper gears. Yesterday was my first DE event and the car was pushed a little harder but not much. Coming home had some trouble downshifting from 4th to 3rd but it eventually worked just fine. Today after a 10 mile easy drive lost r,1,3 and 5. I have about 4000 miles on new clutch and flywheel put in about a year ago. Fluids OK. Any ideas before towing nearby dealer?
  9. Kevin, I bought a 2002 C4S with 32000 miles for 50k in November of 2006. It was purchased as a certified pre-owned from a Porsche dealer. I have put on about 8000 miles in the past 14 months. Just last month I had RMS replaced under warranty and new clutch and flywheel. Has been a joy to drive. I suspect that I overpaid by a few thousand but having the Porsche warranty was very, very important to me. It really is a great car. Do your homework but don't be put off by all the scare stories.
  10. 2002 C4S What, if any, are the dangers or risks in using summer tires in 32 degree or lower temps? I don't mean snow and ice but just plain old northeast cold weather.
  11. 2002 C4S What's the general feeling about a 5 minute or so warm up of the engine before setting out? Good? Bad? Of no consequence? Everything seems smother with a short warm up but somewhere I recall hearing that just putting it in gear and just taking off is the best thing to do. I'd be interested in any thoughts on it. Thanks.
  12. Only option appears to have the window stripped and re-tinted. Will have that done next week.
  13. 2002 C4S 6 Speed Have a mark on inside of window that appears to be a scratch in the tint of window. No amount of cleaning will remove it. Wonder if there is something that will fill in and restore tint to window. Any ideas?
  14. If you tend to keep your cell phone in the slot beneath the radio, that could be the problem. It took me months to figure it out but once I moved the cell phone away from the radio & CD player, the problem was solved.
  15. Come on, Chuck & Izzy, it's "ring, ring goes the bell." I wish my head was as full of Porsche knowledge as it is full of rock & roll lyrics. rmmaso
