  1. Hi, I went to change my Serpentine belt with a 24mm socket and the ratchet is turning. I push it clockwise and instead of the Tension Roller moving, the nut is turning. Has anyone had this problem? I dont want to keep turn the nut as it may break something. I have change the belt 3 times now. This is the first time it has happened. Thanks for the help! 996 C4 with 138K miles
  2. i think the purge value did the trick!!!! I have had no issues starting the car .....
  3. Hugo, I got my purge value put in today. I will report if this fixes the issue.....
  4. Hugo, I got my car back from the mechanic. He said the hard starting is from a solenoid purge valve not closing. It is right above the Alternator.... He ordered the part and will be here in the next couple of days....I will post if this fixes the issue....
  5. Hey all, I have the same problem. Here is my story.... 1) brought my car to an Indy, they said it was a bad MAF sensor. Purchase new sensor but still having hard starts and P1130 and P1128 light. 2) Thinking Dealer would know the most about these cars, I brought my car to the them and they said it was a bad AOS..... I got it replaced at an the Indy (Dealer wanted 1900.00)....The hard starting came back with the check engine light..... 3) So now I am bringing the car back and bascially starting over.... Spending all this money and still cannot get to the bottom of it..... Oh I have a 1999 C4 with 104K miles
  6. Thanks for the reply, from what the dealer said, they will charge 11 hours labor becuase they have to pull the engine and transmission out..... I got a quote from an Indy and they gave me a price of 1300. Is this a good price? what have others paid to get theirs done?
  7. I brought my car to the dealer and they quoted me 1,890.00 to replace my AOS. I have a 1999 C4 Tip. Is this about right? How much should it cost??? Thanks
  8. So i got a new MAF from pelican and installed it last week... well this morning, the codes came back.... The indy already did a smoke test and found no leaks... any other ideas on what it is? At this point, I dont even know if my original MAF was bad..... should I have taken the car to a Dealer and not an Indy? Thanks
  9. Hey, just an update. Took it to the Indy and they said its the MAF... I placed an order and hope this fixes the problem....
  10. Thanks for the reply. I hope the dealer will be able to tell me more as I do not want to start replacing parts and have the symptom remain. I have a small oil leak on the bottom of the car and it looks to be like the AOS... How much is it to replace the AOS? is it a DIY? Has your car stalled? I was pulling on of my drive way and the car stalled (its a tip)... it seemed like it was not getting the right amount of gas/air? I started it up again and it ran fine... Thanks for the help!
  11. Hi, a couple weeks ago I reported that I had trouble starting my 1999 996 C4 (102,000 miles). The car would crank but would not turn over. It would only start if I pressed the gas pedal down. This does not have everytime I start the car. I would say 1/10 times. I was advise that I could have a block fuel injectors so I had the fuel system cleaning done. The car was fine for a couple of days and then it returned.... I did not get an codes during this time.... Just now, I got the following three codes: P0446 P1128 P1130 I have read the post regarding these and was wondering if their is a connection? Is it time to take the car to the dealer and let them figure it out? Could a block fuel line cause these codes? Thanks for the help.... Oh and I have already cleaned the thottle body and MAF......
  12. Any updates on this? i have the same starting problem....
  13. hi, if the battery was dying would it not even crank? I mean I have had a dying battery before and it never did this... Also, I started the car just fine last night... it does not seem like its a consistent problem.... Any ideas????
  14. Hi, how do you test the system? I dont see any lights on the dash, does this mean its to giving out any errors? No recent maintenance done on the car.... RPM looks stable.... Could it be the spark plugs?
  15. Hi Loren, Gas is half full. How do I check if I have a clogged fuel filter? Contaminated gas? ---> I have some Seaform, will this clean it? Thanks
  16. Hi everyone, I need your help again. I am having issues starting the car. When I put the key in and turn it, the engine cranks but will not start. The first time this happened, the engine started, but then quickly died. I then tred again and it only cranks (engine will not fire). The only way to get it to start was to step on the gas and turn the key. Then it would crank and fire up. I am not getting any fault codes on the dash. Any ideas? I have a 1999 996 C4. I hit 100K miles last week! Thanks.
  17. Joel, I went with an aftermarket water pump, the gasket that came with it was paper. Do I have to take everything apart and reinstall with a metal gasket? Thanks.
  18. without jacking the car up, i see a drip on the lowest portion of the water pump... What could have caused this?
  19. So I have bleed the car and the Coolant level has stabilized. But the coolant has started to leak again!!!! I am thinking I did not tighten the bolts from the water pump enough. Can anyone tell me how tight they should be?? Another issue is why would it start to leak now and not right after I replaced the water pump? I mean it was fine for 3 days and then the leak started again.... Thanks everyone.
  20. Been bleeding it since last night.. had to fill up 4 times already....Thanks!
  21. Just wanted to update everyone. I changed my water pump today, (getting that thing out and in is a pain in the butt!). Refilled the car with coolant and replace the clamp. Hopefully I wont see any more coolant on the floor in the morning. Thanks for everyone's help!
  22. Thanks everyone, going to the parts store to look for a smaller clamp....
  23. JeTexas, Great post on the changing of the coolant lines. I went to the local Porsche Dealer and got Hose: 996-106-850-00. From comparing what I see in the car, it looks like it fits. I wont know until I start taking things off and really comparing. This maybe a stupid question, but did you drain your coolant out with the drain plug before you start work on the hoses? Also, from my picture above, do you think I should use a skinnier hose clamp? Would it stop my drip? I ordered a new one from NAPA and not the rebuilt one. Hopefully the new ones will hold up longer than 6 months....
  24. Wow 175.00 that is a great deal, I called my Indy and they will charge 465.00 without parts.
