  1. Just make sure it is the water pump. I had a clanking noise - consistent, but getting louder as the I drive the car over about a 2 week period. I took it into the dealer and they diagnosed it as a converter problem. I happened to have another pair of stock ones at home and swaped them. Sure enough it was a convertor. I cut the bad one apart and the "honeycone" inside was free and moving around..

  2. My car is a MY05 997C2S TIP and it handled the TPC SC kit well. I already had the center radiator, so I did not need that. Car was a daily driver and is a rocket - over 500hp and 400+ TQ at crank. TIP was ok, but first 2 gears are useless - car is soooo fast. However, I'm looking to trade up to a 997TT and had to de-mod my car. TPC SC kit is for sale - $7,000. Professional installation is recommended - around $3k + any parts needed.

  3. I have the same readings than you in my 2005 997 C. I guess thats the way it should be if everything is running fine, but to be honest felt worried as well first time I read the manual saying 3.5

    Any other views appreciated

    Thanks

    Alfredo

An oil change - fresh oil, will do that. My oil pressure reads higher after oil chnages also, then will go down some as the oil breaks down.

  4. I dont have any experience with aftermarket cats, sorry. If you had a better relationship with your dealer they would probably be able to push the cats through under the federal emissions warranty which is 7 years or 70,000 miles or 8/80,000 I believe since you live in CA. I'm not really sure if that will apply to you though since you're so heavily modded. Have you tryed that route through your dealer?

I tried the dealer but they won't cover them because of the SC, which I knew was a risk. I bought AWE sport cats as replacement and will install them tonight.

WOW! The angry, snarling beast - when started up in the morning seems to say "why'd you wake me" - is now very pissed off! With AWE sport cats - much louder when on the gas, ok a idle and low rpms. I'm not sure if their is any additional power, but glad I replaced my OEM rattling cats. Anyway, what a great sound these AWE cats have with the TUBI mufflers!!! Took about 2 hours to install after cool down.

  6. Also be glad the dealer updated your AMP under warranty because most likely the one that was installed in your car from the factory would not have been compatible with the new software.

PTEC, you got me thinking a little bit more about this. My AMP software is 00017600 (hardware: 997.645.334.33), but the .inf file on the Update CD 2 has a section for updating the Bose amp to 017500. Should I modify the CD to delete the Bose reference in the INF file so that I can keep my current, updated Bose software?

I thought this would be a fun DIY project, but I should have just taken the darn thing into the dealer from the get go.

I bought the NAV upgrade kit from my dealer ($299 - 10% PCA discount), it had 2 PCM CDs (dealer kept those, they gave me the box and CD wallet) and an 08.2007 NAV DVD. They performed the PCM upgrade free (per the May 08 TSB) which brought my PCM to 3.0 or 2.1 version C - whichever seems more correct. It took about 45 minutes and all looks good. Apparently I now need a MY06 PCM manunal to use some of the new features. I was hoping to get a 12.2007 NAV DVD, becuase I heard they were availablel - but the dealer so they are not.... BTW my "incompatible navigation software" message finally dissappeared with this PCM upgrade. It did not go away when they did the PCM 2.1 version upgrade earlier this year.

  7. I'm getting horrible banging noises from under the engine during (mostly) idle. At first I though it was the water pump, since the noise was from that area. Took car to dealer and they freaked at some of my mods, but looked at the car without being able to tell me where the noise was coming from. They seemed to suggest it is the TUBI exhaust. I said, I doubt that. Took car home, jacked it up and (after cooling) I banged on the manifolds, mufflers, brackets, and cats. Sure enough, the driver side cat was very noisy (like something broke inside and was moving around).

So I call the dealer back and ask them to check again (service will be tomorrow) because I'm hearing the cats rattling and they are getting worse and worse - been rattling over 3 weeks now.

Has anyone had cats go noisy like mine? What was the root cause? Is it possible to damage the TUBI mufflers from pieces of the cats breaking off and going into them?

Are there any other symptoms (besides rattling) that I should have felt or seen - misfires, hesitations, etc. - before the cats got noisy?

Um update - cats are gone per dealer. Does anyone have a set of stock catalytic converters or sport cats for a 2005 997s they want to sell ASAP???????

thanks Paul, I am a member and have seen that huge document before. It really does describe fully the internal workings of the tip, nor does it have any cutaway diagrams. And, it is definitely silent about the direct drive concept for gears 3-5. I'll keep looking.

  10. I'm a bit confused about this subject, my current car being the first P-car I've owned in over 30 years. For the tiptronic S transmission, I had read and heard the tranmission is fluid coupled (ala slush box) on the first 2 gears only, and then on 3-5 it is direct drive. I also recently read the same things in the May 2008 edition of Panarama - page 81. So, if this is true then potential power lost in 3rd gear (to rear wheels, 2 wheel drive) has to be the same or pretty close to the 6 speed manual transmission, but definitely not as bad as a regular automatic transmission. Am I assuming correctly? How does the tip bypass the fluid coupling in gears 3-5???
