  1. I just flipped mine my from white/chrome to black...its working for me now, but keeping the white/chrome in case i want to go back...
  2. That was what I was afraid of...not sure what is better - more comfortable seat or more head/leg room...I'll probably try the center console delete first...see what that does for me...thats probably the least difficult project to tackle...
  3. Hey everyone, I replaced my 2 way power seats with 8 way power seats in my 2000 996 Cab. I wanted the power lumbar function for the longer trips. I have all the functionality (except for memory and heat - I live in FL so that's not too big of a loss). However, after completing the installation - I now find myself riding 2-3 inches higher than I did with my previous 2 way seats. Not a problem for some - but I am 6'3 and my legroom/headroom is completely gone. Does anyone have any experience with adjusting the mounting points on the 8 way power seat to lower it (or push it back) a bit? I am considering doing the center console delete to pick up some extra leg room (I'd lose the DSP control and CD rack). However, I'd rather just adjust the seat. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
  4. Interesting concept - I'd definitely be interested at that price point...features most important to me would be: -Open the windows with your key -Put the top up or down with your key I live in FL, so it would be nice to vent the heat from a parked car. I am on my second key fob - battery constantly drains out and no range...quit working completely a few weeks ago...i really would like to avoid going for key #3... 2000 996 Cab
  5. Good afternoon, I am looking to upgrade my speakers in my 2000 996 C2 cabrio - I have a couple questions for the community: 1. Is there anything I need to consider prior to purchasing speakers due to the DSP (Digital Sound Processing) option I have on my car? The DSP is located on the center console and allows you to select several different sound profiles (dynamic, DSP, position, etc.) 2. Can anyone recommend some good speakers - most of the "topics" on speaker upgrades are a bit old, and I'd like to see if anyone has any recent recommendations for dash, door and rear speakers. 3. If I was to upgrade the amp - are there any recommendations, and does anyone know if the DSP would be impacted. Also, no plans on changing the head unit - I like the stock look of the Becker and have my Ipod aux hooked up - so all set there. Looking forward to hearing the input - thanks!
  6. Hey - hows it going. I was reading your reply regarding a seat swap in 996. My car came with the 2 way power seats and I swapping them for the premium power seats (8 way adustable with lumbar). I followed your instructions from the thread, and only the power lumber kicks on (none of the adjustments work). I would really appreciate your help as I am stuck. I don't car about the memory fun...

  7. Thanks! I like the look of the white ones too - took a while to find the set up i wanted (white on tan/with a tip), but it was worth the wait...one little thing i did (that I think adds alot to the look), was getting the bumper stops and rear mud guards painted white...gives it a real nice look for not alot of $$....
  8. Thanks!...The wheels look really good when they are clean - but unfortunately they show dirt and brake dust really quickly...for the clear markers, I just did a search on Ebay - there were a few on there. As you mentioned double check to make sure they are clear and not "smoke"...
  9. Hey everyone, My brake sensor just came on - so I'm thinking I need to replace my brake pads/senors. I'd just as soon take it somewhere to get fixed, but lately I've had this urge to do some of my own work on my car. Unfortunately though, I live in a highrise and have no tools or place to do work on it. Anyone in central florida want to help me change out my brakes on a saturday or sunday? I'll bring the beer! Also, if anyone has advice on a good set of brake pads (that don't get too dusty) I'd appreciate it. I have white wheels and they attract brake dust like a magnet. thanks!
  10. Congrats on the new ride. I guess it just depends the look you are going for and how much you want to spend - I did a couple minor things to mine that weren't too expensive that made a nice difference. Went with clear side markers, clear brake lights and painted the black rocker clips and bumper stops white to match the body color. I also have staggered 19" wheels which fill up the wheel wells nicely and gives it a nice aggresive look. Just my thoughts -good luck!
  11. Hey hows it going - I had the same issue with my 911. Its called delaminating - and its a pretty common thing. Unfortunately, any of the adhesive repairs won't last long. I had this guy fix my top - i think it was around 400-500 dollars and it looked great. He stitched in a new plastic window. You will see the thread around the outside of the window on top, but it doesn't look bad at all. I'd show you a pic of mine, but I actually had a new porsche top put on (after someone had cut through my top and stole my ipod). In my humble opinion - its the most reasonable way to go unless you want to spring for a new porsche top (mine was ~6k installed at the dealer) After market tops are cheaper, but from what I've heard the aftermarket tops don't fit too well. Best of luck! Xtreme Auto Upholstery 549 N Goldenrod Road, # 7, Orlando, FL 32807 (407) 447-9077
  12. Good morning everyone, I just rolled over 60k miles and i am looking into getting my 60k mile major service done - I called over to my local porsche dealer and they quoted me $1200...that seems a little high to me for belts/filters/plugs - does that seem about right?...anyone know of any good local indy shops in the central florida area? I usually like to get my service done at the dealership - but that just seems a bit pricey... Thanks! sorry - forgot to add its a 2000 911 carrera....

  14. Well it turned out to be a very simple fix...blown fuse (if you can belive it!)...the dealership charged me $130 for a diagnosis fee - which was ridiculous...so if anyone has a similar problem, go to the fuse box first...I assumed it was a mechanical defect, not electrical...but apparently there is an electronic valve that is controlled by the opening/closing of the fuel filler door...the fuse blew and the valve was stuck in the closed position causing the fuel to shoot back out during refueling... As far as AAA goes - I have always had a memebership (no matter what car I've had)...it seems to come in handy more often than not...I'll be honest I've had more problems with this car than others i've previously owned (boxster, 3series bmw, lexus GS)...I've had it for about 18 months now and i've replaced the water pump, the hydraulic cylindars on the convertible top, new brakes and new tires...all in all, i've spent about 4k on repairs and maintenance (which sucks!)...but I do have to say this - i've never had more fun driving and never gotten more compliments than i do with this car...its the price you pay for driving a 911 I suppose...
  15. Thanks for the reply - I did perform a search and noticed a couple different forum threads. Some mentioned it was the shape of the tank or the way you hold the nozzle while filling up (I think one mentioned a "valve" issue, but it wasn't too specific). When it didn't work again this morning, I decided not to mess with it and I just called AAA to come take it to the dealership. I'll update the post with the fix and what the cost was after I get it back. I think you're right though, the way its acting its probably some type of valve that catching/sticking/broken. Also, just a note...anyone with a used porchse should DEFINTELY get an AAA membership. Its worth every penny.
  16. Hey everyone, So I had about a quarter tank of gas in my car (2000 996 cab) and went to fill-up a couple days ago and something very strange happened. I started to fill the tank and after a couple seconds the gas literally "shot" back (actually came back in the air and hit the gas pump). I figued I had just depressed the handle to much and tried it again - this time only squeezing the handle about half way. After a couple seconds it did it again. So after about 5 minutes of trying to slowly "drip" some gas in, I had to get going. I chalked it up to a bad pump and I figured i'd refill somewhere else. Well, I went to refuel this morning (at a different gas station) and it happened again. This time my tank was almost empty. I was able to get a few gallons in after about 15 minutes of "dripping" it into the tank. Anyone have any idea what this is about. I've had the car over 18 months and this is the first time this has happened. Thanks!
  17. Not trying to disrupt your purchase, but I have never been a fan of Blaupunkt. Just don't think they have the quality of sound some others do. I'd be interested to see what you come up with...if it works out could you throw a couple pics up as well...
  18. yep - that turned out to be the culprit - a quick tighten with a ratchet did the job...thanks for the heads up...
  19. Hey guys, A couple days ago - I turned on the front wipers on my 2000 996 cabrio and the drivers side wiper arm went a little nuts...it got caught up on the other arm and smacked into the windshield...when i got home I tried to figure out the issue...i can hear the wiper motor turning and it seems like its trying "to grab" the wiper arm but it keeps slipping...also i can raise and lower the arm along the windshield when the car is off (i don't think that should be happening - as the other arm is "locked")...i'm thinking there is some type of lock or nut that may be loose, broke or stripped...anyone have any ideas/experience? Thanks!
  20. I just addressed this problem with my car (2000 996 cabrio)...my car only had 30k miles on it so the top was just about perfect, except for the window coming apart at the bottom - I belive the technical term is delamination (its fairly common issue from what i understand)...I took it to a local upholstery shop in orlando and they replaced the window by stitching in a new piece of vinyl (and i was able to select a very heavy tint to match the rest of my car - instead of the old green tint window)...the stitching looks great - and its held up well in some very bad weather...it cost me $500 bucks...the place i went did have experience with 911s, you would definately want to check and make sure they are comfortable doing that to your car...
  21. thanks for the great feedback everyone...i will traveling out of the country for a month or so - I may hit some of you up when I get back in town...take care...
  22. Hey everyone, Anybody have an idea of what a brake pad replacement should run on 2000 996 Carrera 2? I have gotten a couple quotes around $500 (seems high to me) I know it probably an easy DIY...but i live in a condo and dont really have the tools to swing it - any recommendations on brand i should try to get? Also, should I go to the dealer for this or do you think its ok to hit up a "brake place" Thanks!
  23. I just traded up myself - i traded in my 99 boxster for a 2000 996...what a difference...the extra room (im kinda tall too at 6'3) and power of the car are amazing!...mine is a 996 cabrio, clean car fax, 20" wheels and only 37k miles...I was out the door with tax and everything for 33k...there are some 996's to be had for decent money - you just gotta shop it a bit...
