  1. I'm wondering about the same thing.
  2. pk2, did you ever get yours installed? If yes, how has it worked out for you? Does anyone know why TPC won't stand behind their product?
  3. Anyone know how or have a DIY to connect the tiptronic buttons to control the OBC? Thanks?
  4. Softail, many good quality amps can run at 2 ohms. Or Better yet buy a JL amp where the impedance doesn't matter at all.
  5. Thank you very much, that DIY write up is very helpful. Does anyone have any info on how to wire the Tiptronic buttons to control the OBC? I am assuming that the steering wheel with airbag that I am purchasing would have the Tiptronic contact airbag unit.
  6. Hi, I am wondering if I can easily swap my 4 spoke manual transmission steering wheel for a 3 spoke tiptronic wheel? I remember I came across an example of someone who did this before but not sure how much custom work was done to accommodate this. Does anyone know if this can be easily done and if yes, is there some sort of write up? Thanks in advance.
  7. I know its a pain in the hoop but any info on how you managed to run the wires to the doors? My amp is in the front trunk compartment and I have everything prewired wired up. My only problem is I don't know how to tackle running the wires to the door speakers.
  8. Thanks Davej, I found the rubber grommet behind the battery and have threaded everything thorugh it. I havent tackled threading 12 gauge too the doors yet though. fu03steve, i am stuck on how to wire up my Sony CDX-GT-610UI to the stock harness right now. Its got three sets of RCAs, 4 channel amp and of course all the other wires. I am not going to use the power from the deck for the speakers as I am using a JL Audio 5 channel amp. I want to run 2x25 to the dash speakers, 2x100 to the doors and 1x250 to the subs. I have the stock 97 stereo with CD210 player, CD changer and factor Nokia amp in the front. I have already replaced the dash speakers and wired 16 gauge speaker wire to the front trunk housing the JL amp. Any advice on how to connect up the new Sony head unit? I would also like to use the facory door speakers powered by the JL audio amp until I have time to retrofit new 6.5's in the doors. Can I use the wires from the harness that came off the nokia amp for the door speakers? If yes, which ones? Thanks for any help. give me a list of thing you are going to swap and add... does your boxster came with stock amp in front?
  9. Hi, I need some assistance and not sure who to go to post in the 996 or 986 forum. I have done lots of searching around but can't really find my answer. I am trying to replace my stock 97 986 head unit, speakers and amp. I have all the seperate components purchased already and everything taken apart in the car. My problem is the wiring. I don't know how ot go about it. It looks like it will be too hard for me to run new speaker wires to the doors (am i correct?). I also don't know how to wire the new HU to the stock CD210 harness. I bought a Scoshce Harness for a 97 996 but it doesn't seem to be the right fit. I dont have the BOSE system in my car. I heard that a VW harness might work? Any ideas or can anyone point me in the right direction for a wiring diagram of the stock wires so that if I can't find a harness I can just hard wire to the stock wires myself? Thanks any help would be much appreciated. I have already run RCAs and power wires to the front trunk without problems.
  10. Hi guys, i know lots have been discussed on speaker replacement and aftermarket head units etc. but I am having a few problems. 1. Has anyone wired their door speakers without using the stock wiring? If yes, how was this done? Most forum members seem to reusue the flimsy stock wiring. 2. I bought a new head unit and not sure how to wire it to the stock harness. I heard that I can use a VW harness but any idea which one? I bought a Scosche one for a 1997-2002 996 and it doesnt work. I am open to hard wiring it to the stock wires if I need to but not sure about the stock wiring diagram. 3. Where and how do you guys run the power wires and speakers cables to the front trunk? Drill a hole in the firewall? If yes, is there a certain location that is good and safe? I am plannning on powering 6.5's in the doors and 4 inch coaxes in the dashes and two 8's behind the seats with 1 JL 5 channel amp. Thanks guys
  11. Has anyone actually tried carpet dye with success? By a pro or as a DIY? I have a full boxster red interior and was thinking of swapping to a black interiror - the leather pieces. Thanks.
  12. I agree, . based on audio knowleadge it only makes sense that the bass will sound much better and tighter with a properly sealed enclosure. I will attempt to do the same but with fiberglass in the back to ensure that its sealed properly. I believe your speakers are not free air designs. If you used the Kicker SS8's then it might be OK as those are free air drivers. I am considering Elemental Design SQ10's or the Earthquake SWS shallow mount speakers. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Just need to decide on 10's or 12's right now.
  13. Excellent install. I find myself coming back to this thread all the time. I have siilar questions as to the wiring methods used as well as the power to the amp. To clarify you used the 4" QSC's on the dash, the 8" Kickers in the doors as mids and the 3.5" Kappas in the back as rear fill? Do you have any pics of this lexan enclosure? I just can't picture it. How big is the enclosure? I am thinking of using the same Kickers in the doors as well. However I might go the route of using the doors as the enclosures. How would you go about sealing the door completly though? Thanks
