  1. You can get a significant improvement is sound/power by replacing the stock amp and replacing the door and dash speakers. The speakers can be replaced with no significant modifications. I would recommend a three way speaker system with duals on the dash and a single larger speaker in the door. Don't worry about the rear speakers as these are mostly fill. Good luck.
  2. I went through this a while back myself. The conclusions I came to are that the only body kits that have good fitment cost as much or more than OEM. If you look hard you can find some deals on the OEM aerokits. I wound up buying the Carrera Aerokit for the cab that included front spoiler, rear spoiler, side skirts and rear GT tabs. I found the kit on sale for around $2,700 (less shipping which I think was around $400). I have not gotten around to install yet, but got a quote from the body shop that does the local dealers work including paint and install for $2,000. I figured that even if OEM is slightly more expensive, resell will be higher and you are dealing with a kit that Porsche has balanced. Hope this helps. Thanks for the info. It was a deal where the place had one that they had ordered for a customer that fell through. It was a place that I don't think carries a lot of inventory and really wanted to get rid of a big price tag item. Call it right place right time.   4. Good to hear your fix wasn't anything major. As to mixing coolants, mixing coolants can cause the coolant to gel. You can search here to get a much more detailed answer, but safe to say you don't want to do it. As to your exhaust question, you will probably get as many different answers as if you asked which tires. It's more of a personal choice. I have GHLs (mufflers only) and I am very happy with them.   5. I recently had the same type of issue...coolant pouring out of the coolant tank. Since this tank sits right over the mufflers, it produced quite a bit of a mess and LOTS of steam. My car had the original (MY 99) cap and based on threads here, my first step was to replace the cap with the new version and refill the tank with coolant. Have not had any problems since. It hard to believe that a $10 part can make such a mess. On another note, I assume you used Porsche coolant when you topped off the tank. If not, you may have created a new issue.
  6. My wife had the car out over the weekend. When she parked it, steam started pouring from the engine compartment and she was sure she had just destroyed my car. Recently I had some coolant dump out of the overflow, so I figured it was the same thing after some questioning over the phone. I have a MY 996 Cab with the original coolant tank cap, so I knew it needed to be replaced. When this happened to me it took maybe a quart of coolant to refill the tank. This time it took over 3 1/2 gallons of coolant/water mix. The wife said it spit out a lot of fluid, but I figured it just looked like more than it really was. Is this normal with the cap issue? It took me several heat cycles of tank fills to finally get the air out and the fluid through the system, but it now seems to have settled. I'm going to keep an eye out to make sure I don't have a tank issue, but is there anything else I should look for. If I had known it was going to take so much coolant, I would have done a full system flush! Will
  7. Have you tried Ebay? There are a number salvage yards that specialize in P cars that you could also try.
  8. This is a great idea that with a little work could be a very marketable product. The only issue I see is that you have to use two jacks (which most people don't have). Does it take two people as well? As others have said, I think front to back would be better and only require one jack. If this was your idea, congrats. Will
  9. Steve, I used top quality steel from fresh stock and paid $180.00. The welder that I used chared me $85.00 an hour. It took him 1 and 1/2 hours to cut and weld all the pieces together. Paint and decals were $30.00. So the grand total was just over $300.00. It was a bit more than I planned, but it's a one time charge. My local Porsche dealer charges $120.00 an hour so about 2 and 1/2 hours at the Porsche dealer. These will enable me to do a bit more than basic maitenance, and I know for sure I will get more than 2 and 1/2 hours out of them. Hope that helped. Do you mind sharing how, and with what material, you coated the pads (the black material)? Tim. Looks like Rhino Liner or some other liner "paint". Looks like he also put the same on the bottom at the jacking points.
  10. You may have the tool and not know it as I did. Check the tool pouch in the boot. I have a MY 99 and the tool I have does not look like the one in this thread. It is all metal. You don't have to use the tool. You can use a kitchen knife to pry off the round tabs and then I believe it is a 9mm hex. I had installed mine a couple of times before I found the tool. Will
  11. Just my .02, but I would not add a crest to a steering wheel airbag. If the airbag goes off, you have a pointed metal projectile aimed at your face. The OEM crests are riveted to the airbag. Coming from someone that almost bled to death from an airbag ripping my wrists open, I would not advise applying anything to a steering wheel that didn't come from the factory!
  12. Do a search here and on the DIY page. In the past I saw a post that walks you through how to do it on here with pictures. If I recall, you have to partially raise the top and then disconect the back of the top by releaseing the tie downs. That's probably not the best description.   13. I don't think 19"wheels are recommended for '99 narrow body cars. Your tire sizes are not a problem, but with the added size of the wheels you may have a problem. I have the same size tires on 18" wheels with no problems. That being said, it's hard to answer you question without knowing your offsets front and rear. I researched the crap out of this topic before buying my new wheels and tires a year ago. Good luck. Will

  15. You might want to check out www.wheeldynamics.com I bought some wheels from them a year or so ago and they had a good selection and pricing was very good. Service was top notch. I have no association with them other than a customer. The guys there are very familiar with Porsche's and if they tell you it will fit, it will. My wheels are 18x11 rear with 63 et and I am running 285/30/18 tire with no rub issue. My car is a MY 99 C2 Cab. Will
  16. Agree as well. I think it would pull a bigger resale value, but nowhere close to the price of the new engine. Of course if was done under CPO, better for you. I had a Ford Expedition that the engine blew up with 55k miles with all required maintenance done. Ford would not pay a dime. It cost me $5,500 to replace and I probably didn't get anything extra because of the perception of a lemon. At least with the P car this is a known issue and someone might like having the piece of mind of the new engine. Best of luck. Will

  19. I'll go out on a limb here and say these would not be street legal in most states and probably would exceed the noise level requirements at most tracks. If you compare the difference between stock mufflers and performance mufflers, it's pretty significant. I can't imagine bypassing the mufflers all together! Will

I notice that when you put the key in but don’t start it is rind through this check program for 30 seconds But I have not control of it and can’t really see what is doing. Are there controls for it? Programming? Etc That all I really want to know The manual only has two pages related to the OBC. It only explains how to select each function and the purpose/use of each function. It doesn't say anything about the "check program" you are referring to. I don't have OBC stalk and I don't have the OBC turned on so i can't really respond to what you are seeing. Will

  24. Can't really say. Before I bought the car, I got the records from the dealership that had done all of the maintenance. I'm pretty sure this dealership did everything as they even replaced the tires. The only work they reported was routine oil changes, new tires, 30k service and an airbag code cleared. If you figure 712 hours at an average of 40mph that would be a little less that 30k miles. I guess next time I take it to the dealership I can ask if it looks like the DME has been replaced. I'm not sure if they will be able to tell me or not unless the part number changed. Oh well, the mystery continues. One more question. Is it safe to assume that the DME values should be read at full operating temp? Thanks. Will
  25. Yes, I have read the manual that comes with the software. It is helpful in how to use the program. What I would like to have more information about is primarily the ECU Actual Values. The program lets you monitor a lot of info, but I just don't know how to evaluate it. The program also says my car has 712 operating hour, but at ~65k mile that would mean an average speed of like 90 mhp. Unless the car was used to run drugs or race NASCAR, that doesn't seem right. I'm 99% sure I have the original motor as I got all of the maintenance records from the dealership that the first owner used and I'm pretty sure they would have mentioned a motor replacement! Thanks.
