  1. I just bought a hardtop for my 996 C2 Cabriolet that should arrive this week. It did not come with a hardtop, and I wanted to check how hard it is to install. I have read about a hardtop tool...is this required or can I use standard hex wrenches? Is it a 1 or 2 person job? Any other things I should know? I have read the TSB on hardtop noises, so if I hear them I will have to order the new mounts. Thanks in advance.
  2. Loren...could you please send me this TSB? Thanks
  3. How different are the paint colors by year? I have a '99 C2 Cab that is Black (paint code 747). I found a hardtop off an '02 that is black, but paint code 041. Are these the same color, very similar color, or totally different color? Thanks.
  4. bhussung - any downsides to the Kumho tires? I bought a 996 C2 Cab that came with Kumhos on it. The rears will need to be replaced in a few thousand miles and I am trying to figure out the best option. I don't know anything other than the Kumhos so my basis for comparison is limited. I am fine paying a bit more if the difference is noticeable, but the absolute price is hard to resist barring a clear reason (read safety or noticeable performance gap) to go with more expensive rubber.
  5. Tonger - I had the same thought. I really like the stock look and am not psyched about replacing the head unit as a result. I have a Honda Accord that I drive when the weather is bad and I replaced the stock speakers there. The difference was amazing with a basic stock Honda CD player. The CDR220 is clearly a better radio so I expect to see a significant improvement.
  6. 5" nokia I think 2 ohm. Do you want another set of factory ones. If so let me know and I will look around to see if I still have them. RDS - thanks for the offer, but I think I will upgrade the speakers with a different brand.
  7. Hi C2cab, Do you have any idea what the value of such Mod would be...and whether it would have a negative impact on the engine's life. In addition, I would assume that would make the car very difficult to market if in a few years I decided to trade-up, right? Thanks, Gus Gus, From what I have heard, there are no issues with reliability on these mods. I know the supercharger kit on the 996 runs about $10K for parts. I think the Boxster kit is $6-7K for a 40% increase in HP. Probably another $1-2K for install (just a wild guess). Not cheap, but good bang for the buck, especially when you consider the transaction costs of a trade-up (sales tax, licensing, titles, inspections, etc) It would certainly make your car better performing, but you are right, you probably wouldn't get your money out of it when you sell it. If you plan on keeping the car for a while and are just looking for better performance it may be a good bet. If you think you may still get rid of the car in a couple years it probably isn't a financially astute decisoin. That said, you probably won't get your money out of any mods you make to it. Good luck, and keep us posted.
  8. Sounds like your current vehicle is still in good shape and running well. Have you though about upgrades? ImagineAuto specializes in PCars and has a proven supercharge kit for the Boxter. I think their website is imagineauto.com, but not sure...you can do a google search. They are based in KC, but can ship the package and have your dealer or indie mechanic install. They seem to ahve a great reputation.
  9. I have a MY99 996 with the CDR220 head unit. The door speakers sound damaged and I want to replace them. I am looking for 5.25" replacement speakers but need to know two things: 1) What is the current size, namely depth, of the base speakers? 2) What wattage does the CDR220 send to these speakers? Thanks in advance.
  10. why not replace with another 3.4 but add the supercharger kit from ImagineAuto? That's my plan for when I need a new engine (hopefully a while from now)
  11. check out the DIY forum. This topic is covered there in a few places
  12. I want to upgrate my audio system (mostly for better quality bass) in my '99 C2 Cabriolet. I am not looking for a loud, license plate rattling bass, but something that will not get distorted when I am driving with the top down at 30 MPH (like it does now) I have searched through most of the forums and can't seem to find any solutions. I have the CDR-220 head unit. Is it possible to keep this head unit and replace the speakers in the factory grilles and get a noticeable improvement? If so, what speakers should I replace, what size are they, and what brand is recommended? Thanks in advance
  13. I don't believe there are any motion sensors. Just sensors on the mechanics (door handles, center console latch, ignition, etc. If you are looking for an alarm that will go off if the vehicle is moved you will have to look aftermarket.
  14. Thanks for the info. I am going to check my fluid this weekend. How long should it take to raise/lower the top on a 99 Cab?
  15. tobias - what type of speaker did you choose for replacement in the door? i want to change mine out as well if i can find a speaker that will improve the sound quality.
