  1. 996 clip that locks the harness onto the coil pack is metal on the 996 DYI. It's made of plastic on the 997.1 and it breaks if you don't know this and aren't careful. Ask me how I know.
  2. eso1968, I didn't see the indication personally, my dealer did. He said it had to do with the difference between the sensor at the CATS and the sensor somewhere in the engine. We cleared the fault several times, but it kept coming back. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was about $2,200 for the CATS installed on the East Coast. The ECU flash was $1,000. The flash was done by Softtronics. The CATS have a nice deep sound. Like a GT3, but not as loud. The horsepower gain is very noticable, so is the fuel milage decline.
  3. Everyone I have every spoken to (Dealers, P Car specialty shops) all say the say thing. Intakes do nothing for the car other than they sound nice. Porsche already designs the car with a cold air intake. This past spring, my left cat failed. It was almost as much to replace an OEM cat as it was to install two Fabspeed 200 cell sport cats, so I did. Had to get the ECU flashed by Softtronics because of the check engine light I kept getting. Sounds great without the annoying drone. Now I'm not a believer in horsepower gains from these modes, but the car is noticeably quicker, especially on the track. Eso1968, If you're going to mod the exhaust, I would take this route. Good luck
  4. My bad, I didn't type 997.1S, but the question was about the S.
  5. Are you talking oil temp or water temp. If it's oil temp then 9 o'clock is about right, just above 200F. If you're talking water temp then that's at 175F or 12 o'clock
  6. I get HPDE insurance through Lockton for every DE day and it's getting to be too expensive. I just read my entire GEICO auto policy and it says nothing in the exclusions about not covering closed circuit events or surfaces designed for competitive events or driver education. Can any of you insurance experts point me in the direction were it says DE days are excluded. Or can someone share personal experience? Thanks,
  7. 145 on the back straight before the bus stop at Watkins Glen. If you want to drive fast, first learn how then do it on a track.
  8. I just replaced my OEM brake pads on my 05 C2S for the first time with Pagids for a DE event this weekend. I removed the wear sensors and tied them off to a suspension part. Now the brake wear warning is on and the EXCLAMATION light plus the BRAKE light on the dash is on. I did accidentally break one of the sensors while I was removing it. I have done this before with my Boxster without getting a warning light. Is it because I broke the sensor? How do I clear it? Thanks,
  9. Phillip, I live in the Northeast. I also spent many months looking for 997 S, but everyone was asking mid to upper $50s. Heck, some people wanted mid to upper $50s for non S models. I finally hit upon a CPO 05 S with 14.5K miles. This car is pristine. I paid $50K which included a two year 100K mile warranty. Could have bought for less than $48K without the warranty. I find Kelley Blue Book to be a little under what everyone (dealer and private party) are asking and getting. I find Edmunds.com to be more in line with the market. If you find one in the mid 40s, go for it. You won't regret it. Regards, Jim
  10. My 02 Boxster S has been sitting in the garage for a week due to weahter. I decided to start her up this morning to bring her up to operating temp, but she won't start. When I turn the key, everything lights up, but I get a tick, tick, tick sound. No engine turnover. Any thoughts? Thanks for help. :(
  11. I installed litronics in my 02 S about six months ago. The lights swivel up and down when I turn the car on and up when I hit the hi beams. However, for some reason the hi beam bulb on the driver side does not work. I have replaced the bulb and also put back the original driver's side light, but the hi beam still didn't work. I don't realy mind since the lights swivel up when the hi beams on, but it would be nice to have everyting working. Any ideas as to why the driver's side hi beam bulb doesn't work? Thanks.
  12. Bill, Thanks so much for the info. I'm in the middle of trying to locate a donor cluster. I'll let you know how it comes out. Regards, Jim
  13. Lowflyr, A couple of questions. Where to I go to get a cluster? I live in Connecticut so it would probably be internet buy. I have an 02 S, does that mean I'm not restricted to an 02 996 cluster? My OBC is not on. If I install the 996 cluster, does the OBC work assuming I install the stalk? Thanks,
