  1. Hi guys, It is time for me to replace the air filter on my '01 Boxster and I am considering adding a non-paper filter. The guy I source some of my parts from no longer carries the BMC element since he said the K&N is as good as for a fraction of the price. $34 for the K&N, $90 for the BMC. Are both filters equivalent? On another note, any reason I should stick with the paper (OEM) filter - I like the induction noise and will let the oiled filter rest for a while wrapped in newspaper if I decide to go that route? Anything else that could go wrong with these? Thanks, Gus
  2. Thank you very much guys... Sorry for the late reply...but had a small problem - I am getting my clutch replaced (at 44 k miles)!!! Well, back to the topic. When I look at pelicanparts.com they list Mintex, Pagid and Textar as OEM Pad Sets and Brembo as Genuine Porsche. I always thought the OEM term was used to express Genuine Porsche parts. What am I missing? I assume the Brembos are the real deal. am I right? All the best, Gus
  3. It could be me... I drive a 2001 986 :D And yes I keep it clean...
  4. Yep that is the tool.... I would check the cable alignment before the instalation, since it costs only a few bucks and might remove a big weight of your shoulders (i.e. trasmission concerns). One point though, if the cables are aligned and you still have a problem I would NOT install the short shifter, since it might compound the problem (less leverage to shift!)...that's just my 2 cents. Best of luck, Gus
  5. Anually seems to be the recommended if you are going to track the car, or autocross it. Some people do it even more frequently than that... Best, Gus
  6. Wouldn't this be a standard feature now, like anti-lock brakes? You wouldn't actually buy it... at least separately. We will have to buy compatible tires, wheels (maybe?!?)...Which will most certainly cost more and restrict choices...So you might not directly pay for it, but you will be impacted by it!!! Don't like the idea ! All the best, Gus
  7. Is this for real??? :o Gandrade1, also Carrara White Boxsters are given an extra 17 HP right out of the factory. Damm it!!! :lightbulb: Now I see why that guy was always passing me right after the turns! And I thought I needed to improve my line! :jump: You guys got me with this one!
  8. These are strong enough reasons, aren't they? What else is left on the car, anyway :P For the ego and status, definetly a 911
  9. I wanted to place the 986 emblem on my Boxster, but I believe there was no OEM release with that emblem... Anyway, I thought it was worth it a try. Does anyone have the diagrams for the 986? All the best, Gus
  10. Number 2, without a doubt... Color is great, low mileage and guaranteed until 2011...If something is to go wrong it WILL go wrong by then! Mileage on #1 is way too high for such a young car... If you don't want number 2 send it my way  All the best, Gus
  11. Yeah, not too bad, I got mine from England for $100  Just kidding, I think the pair of clips cost $20... :D Thanks, Al :P On a different note, did you get the wheels? Best, Gus
  12. Thanks ToolPants, I will let you guys know how much I am quote. From past experience, labor tends to be more expensive in my neck of the woods! Best, Gus
  13. Thanks guys... Well looks like I am down for a $2,000 expense... I will take it to an Indy. I am considering getting a lightweight flyweel (if mine needs replacement). Anyone has any experience with it? What are the cons? Best, Gus
  14. If it is anything like a 2000...at the top left and right, there are two latches. Open these up towards the center, pull out the windscreen. Pretty simple. Thank you for your reply. I read that the clips are very easy to break that is why I am afraid to try to open it. Anyone has a step by step procedure with pictures to show how to remove and in stall in. Much appreciated. Steven Looking for some instructions here too...I am installing a camera mount and the windscreen needs to be removed on my '01 2.7L Boxster. Best, Gus
  15. Thanks, guys... How expensive (labor hours) would you say it would take to get the replacement done? Also TP will Indies usually charge to get it checked out? Man 44k miles sounds awfully low to need a clutch job. It makes you wonder whether the previous owner knew what the dead pedal was for!!!!!!! I will keep you guys posted... All the best, Gus
  16. Hi guys, I have just come back from a wonderful DE event at Watkins Glen - what a track!!! I drove my car there and back this weekend. That + the track driving summed up to 1,000 miles. On my back I hit a lot of traffic and started to notice that my clutch feels 'harder' than normal and it feels like the clutch is doing most of its work during the first 1/2 of the the pedal's travel when I step on it or the last 1/2 of the travel when I am de-clutching(hard to explain!!!) My car is a '01 2.7L Boxster with 44K miles on it. I purchased the car 1.5 years ago and have added only 8k miles to it. I have done 3 track events so far. The clutch always felt a little hard, but I assumed it is a characteristic of P-cars! Now it is starting to bother me - it is harder and less 'precise'. Am I approaching a clutch replacement? I have no idea when the clutch was last bled...Could that solve my problems... Please, let me know what you guys think? Thank you very much, Gus :renntech:
  17. Hi guys, I am also looking for brake pads for my '01 Boxster.... I do 4-5 track events a year and would like to buy a good 'hybrid' pad - if something like that exists. Please, let me know what and where to look... All the best, Gus
  18. Hi jefla, I am not an experienced mechanic, but the adice I could give you is what I would do in your situation - locate a reputable Porsche Indy in DC (lookup or ask around the area's PCA), if not possible, take it to the dealer ASAP. These engines are precision instruments and a oil leak is never a good thing, or something you can get away with... Best of luck, Keep us posted.
  19. Hahahhaha... I have the twin brother of your car - color, engine and year - and just started doing DEs this year myself! Anyway....Before I started I bled my brakes and filled up with Motul DOT 5.1. Did 2 DEs and so far, so good...Knock on wood as I am going to another DE this Friday (Watkins Glen). All the best, Gus
  20. That is great news, I am in NJ, otherwise I would most certainly lend my installed B&M Keep us posted Best, Gus
  21. Hi guys, Just wondering if any alignment tool has been released for the B&M SSK. I have followed the topics and the last I have seen there were a multiplicity of tool colors, but none fitting the B&M... Is anything available as of yet? All the best, Gus
