  1. Even more interesting, if you go to AutoTrader directly, you won't find the listing. Alienz, where did you find the first posting of it? alter_schwede, where did you get your info?
  2. So, I emailed the owner. His reply: Hello, First you have to know that the car is available and you just need is to be agree with my condition stated below and the car will be yours. The price includes shipping and insurance fees. 1.SHIPMENT:I am currently located in Italy and the car will be shipped from here by sea with the cargo ship in a container to your nearest port so for that I ask you to locate your nearest port with sea access and let me know which one is it, the usualy transit time for such a transportation is 7-8 days, a deposit of 999$ must be sent prior to shipping. 2. PAYMENT: You will arrange payment through wired transfer (www.westernunion.com). All you have to do is go to www.westernunion.com and find an local agent near you were you have to go and send the funds or you can send the deposit online with your credit card at www.westernunion.com, also if you don't have the full purchase amount available right now I can work out a payment plan with $300/month after the initial $999 down payment. 3.INSURANCE The car will be insured at the delivery service and insured for the transport. 4.RETURN POLICY As soon as the car arrives, you will test the car and if it does not matches 100% to your expectations, you will return it in max. 7 days since the arrival date. In this case I will send you the full amount back and you will send me the car in the original container and you don't have to pay the return shipping and insurance. 5.In the 7 days inspection perioud you decide to buy the car send the remainig balance and our deal will be completed. If this will be ok with you just email back with your info and tell me what info you need more about the car and the transaction and you will have it. There will be some paperwork to take care of p! rior to shipping and that is the bill of sale and the odometer discosure statement and for that I will need your name and address. Sincerely hope to do the transaction. dealerleads@autotrader.com wrote: ***VEHICLE LEAD*** **************************************** Dealer Name: None - 54361632 **************************************** The following lead was generated from AutoTrader.com's web site at http://www.autotrader.com. 3. What are the next steps in replacing the manifold extractors? I have a complete TechArt system that I want to install, and it includes these. Thanks
  4. Hi Per my earlier posting (New Guy Questions), the Kinesis/Yoko wheel/tire combo that I was hoping fit my '99 996 does not fit. It's probably more the issue of too wide a tire (245 fronts, 315 rears) rather than the rims (9" and 11"). I am looking at a set of '04 C4S wheels, fronts 8x18 et 50 / rears 11x18 et 45 with front tires 225/40/18 - rear tires 295/30/18. According to my "Owner's Manual," the stock size and offset for my '99 is 7.5x18 et 50 / 10x18 et 65. The fronts look OK, but note that the rear offset of the C4S wheel is 45mm while the stock one is 65 mm. Will the rears fit?
  5. Great!! As I said, count me in for the next gathering.
  6. Recently purchased a TechArt header (manifold extractor) and exhaust system. I see your DIY instructions for the exhaust system. Have you similar for the headers? If not, can you give me the tightening torque for the header bolts? Thanks
  7. Hi Just found this forum. Most interesting for a new guy who likes to work on his car. Bought a '99 C2 on 4/30. :) Need to do as much of the 30K mile maintenance as I can, and have a TechArt header and exhaust system to install (already). Looks to me like this is an ideal venue for that??? Can you give me a little more info such as do I need to bring my own tools, parts (e.g., filters), and oil? Or is that available for purchase? I'd assume I need to bring it, but want to be sure. BTW, although I'm located a bit out of the way, Half Moon Bay, my home garage can be used as a site. I have an air compressor and some air tools. You can count me in for the next gathering if no conflict in schedule. Thanks.
  8. Thanks for the very good concise information. VERY much appreciated.
  9. I am but a newbie to the rarefied world of Porsche, and I have a host of questions. I come from the world of a car (1993 Mazda RX-7) that took lots of work to unleash all its potential, while my newly purchased '99 C2 may be near perfect out the door. I am not looking to modify for the sake of modification, nor am I particularly interested in more power. As it is, I sold my RX-7 with about 380 hp that could easily stay with GT3s and 993 Turbos. Never had the pleasure of running on the track with a newer Turbo. Questions: 1. Can one do their own maintenance on the car? If so, what manuals are needed? I see them selling for $700. Is that right??? Source for the manuals? I already printed out Loren's DIY instructions. 2. Should one use only Porsche-sourced parts (filters, plugs)? Sources? 3. Mineral oil or synthetic? Weight? I have plenty of both on the shelf. 4. What basic mods can be done to make the car more durable? On the RX-7, the "reliability" mods were such as freer flowing intake, downpipe and cat-back. I already have a TechArt header (manifold extractor) and muffler system. Should I put a K&N filter in the air box? Or should I not do anything? 5. Is there a database of information, or is it that the quality of the car precludes a need for that? 6. I was looking for a second set of wheels as the rears on the car have some curb rash. I found and bought a set of Kinesis K20s with Yokohama AVS Sports from Speedware Motorsports up in Redmond because the price was SO good. They are 9" fronts, 11" rears, 235/45 fronts, 315/35 rears. They purportedly came off a 996. After (of course) I bought them, I read more on tire sizes, and these seem to be outside the recommended width. Did I make a mistake? (They are within the 4% range for the ABS.) 7. I have Paternie's Red Book, and have ordered Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook and Elford's Porsche High-Performance Driving Handbook. Anything else I should get on my shelf? 8. Maybe a silly question, but two Saturday's ago went to the R&T Sports Car Invitational Races at Laguna Seca. Met some Porsche folks, and when I introduced myself to them noting that I had just (the day before) bought a "Porsh," one guy immediately corrected me that it's "Porsha." Are folks really that sensitive about that? Don't want to get off on the wrong foot. 9. Finally, any advice on what to be careful about as I transition into driving the 996 compared to driving the RX-7? I should think there will be some differences due to the weight distribution. Thanks. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
