  1. Doing the 80K mile service and have run into a problem.

The oil is changed, all filters refreshed, motor mounts replaced, brake fluid flushed, but plugs need to be replaced. Never pulled mufflers with PSE, and am at a loss on how to remove the stainless braided vacuum hoses that are crimped onto the valves. The heat shield (driver's side) is off, but without removing the muffler can only get to two of the three plugs.

Hoping for help and thanks in advance.

FWIW ... 2012 GTS. The subject of another post on center locks.

  2. Maybe way too late for comments, but...

In shopping for mine last year, I did find a very few with LSD only, but most were without, or with Sport Suspension.  A good option if you intend to track the car, otherwise, not needed, IMO.

AWD needed if you're in the snowbelt, and intend to drive it through the winter. I was just out on a 1500 mi drive with some friends, one of whom drives a 997TT.  After driving mine, he said he missed the dynamics of RWD.  Liked the handling of the GTS much better.

Finally, if you're considering PDK, Sport Chrono is a must.

  3. Hi

Am about to put my 996GT3 up for sale, and am considering the 2011-2012 997GTS as its replacement. I am getting different information from dealers on the Sports Suspension (SS) and LSD options, and hoping someone here has good information.

First, I was told the SS "option" is standard on the GTS. I think that's settled now, and is identified as a $950 option. But what is unclear is whether the LSD is included in the SS, or is a separate option.

Whichever, can anyone give me a description of what the SS option consists? It continues to amaze me how uneducated some dealer sales folks are.

(BTW, my other consideration is the 2007-2009 Turbo.)

    Thanks

  4. Hi

May have to change my driving "style" and/or car shortly frown.gif ,and am looking for advice on how to accommodate this.

I have had limited movement in my right ankle for many years. I have been wearing a flexible brace since I had it partially fused in '08. I retained flexibility in it to press the gas pedal, so little impact to driving. However, as the ankle has deteriorated (as expected), I must now wear a stiffer brace that does impede my ability to press the gas pedal. If/when I have the ankle completely fused, I will lose that completely.

The two things I am considering now are hand control for the accelerator, and/or getting a PDK-equipped car and left-foot drive. Anyone with experience in these? Source for converting to a hand control?

  5. Found what I need. Inspecting the nuts initially, I did not note that they had flat surfaces, looked round to me. Closer inspection shows that an 8 mm socket fits to loosen them.

  6. Long-time member over on the GT3 forum. Been driving a 996GT3 since Jan '05, and a 993TT just prior to that. As I approach 70, thinking of getting into a gentler/kinder car, and am considering a 997S with PDK.

My question is are there any other issues with these early-on PDK's? I know I'm in for a BIG change from the rough and ready GT3, but am ready for that gentler/kinder car (I hope).

  7. Can't tell you if that particular part will fit or not, but when I needed to replace my front bumper, I did so with the RS bumper, which, at that time, was much cheaper than the stock piece. And it has air vents! :)

  8. Welcome, you're sure to enjoy the car! Your Porsche education is just beginning if this is your first one.

I went from a near 400 hp '93 RX-7 (12 years) to a '99 C2 (3 months, not enough car coming out of the RX-7) to a '96 993TT (1 year) to the GT3. Tracked the RX-7 and the 993TT, and wondered why people said driving a Porsche was a learning experience. My addled brain didn't understand the 993TT AWD implications.

When I first took the GT3 onto the track, I was quickly humbled. Can you say "lift throttle oversteer!" I had a blast learning how to drive all over again.

For what parts are you looking?

  9. Very good and valid points. Flashing my ECU was to develop better low-end and street driveability since I am no longer tracking my car, not to achieve more hp. I should go back and compare hp/tq curves at that low-end to see what the actual gains were, but there is no question in my mind (butt) that it's smoother to drive on the street.

  10. Trying to get information on best way to develop more horsepower in a 996 GT3. Have made a number of changes already including Fabspeed headers and exhaust, Fabspeed intake system, fuel injection upgrades, new gearbox close ratios.

Interested in hearing from those who have experience with further changes to generate horsepower. I am told it gets difficult and expensive from here on.

    Thanks

I have Cargraphic mufflers, otherwise stock exhaust system, FVD Brombacher ECU flash. Much better overall street driveability (more low-end). On the dyno, picked up 16 rwhp, est 19 at the flywheel. I've spoken to others who say they only picked up 6-8 rwhp with headers and other exhaust mods. I would think they'd do better than that, but have no experience there. Many others offer quality ECU flashes to match your other mods.

  11. Don't know if anyone would be interested in this, but I have some old bottled beer that I am about to toss down the drain. Some of it is 4 years old, some 2 years. I'm a non-drinker, and these are leftovers from some gatherings I've had. All of it has been in a cabinet in the garage. I take out a bottle now and again, and my son-in-law and brother-in-law seem to enjoy it. At least, neither has spit it out.

If you'd like it for this gathering, I'll be at the PCA-GGR DentPro Day in Campbell tomorrow, and can bring it there for pick up. Let me know, please.

  12. Hi,

I checked the DIY as well as a search and did not come up with anything. I have a 2004 GT3 and I just purchased a 997 GT3 shifter assembly that I would like to install. I think it is pretty easy but wanted to see if anyone had the actual directions for install? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Look here http://gallery.rennlist.com/gallery/album122 for some info. Rockitman references a page on the B&M site that is no longer there. I also have a page, but it's down, too. I even went to the Vivid Racing page, which references a page, which is gone.

    Thought I found it here:

    http://www.nyxracing.com/bm-precision-shor...-99-p-7495.html

but the link goes to a dead end.

If you can't find anything, let me know as I have a hard copy, and can scan it for you.

  13. Shield (actually, air duct) p/n is 99657523130. It is on the parts list, but the pic doen't look anything like the part. The Master Parts guy at Carlsen Porsche (Redwood City, CA) found it right away once I brought in the pax side equivalent. (Then Jeff at Sunset Porsche corrected the p/n. BTW, pax side p/n is 99657523230.)

The larger clips on the bottom the of the shield look like they're rivited in. Is that the case with yours?
