  1. Hey Guys, I noticed a couple of times last summer and today (3rd start of the day) that the engine has to turn over 10 or 12 times for it to actually start. I'm bringing the car in for the service i do every year when i take it out of storage, will change the oil, and i think i'll have them replace the fuel filter, and the park plugs as well. I had the plugs replaced last year but just to be sure. Does that sound like a reasonable first step for this problem? It did take a while for the car to start after i took it out of storage, and when it did fire up there was a 15 seconds or so of blue smoke coming out of the back, but I assume that isn't terrible bad given it had sit for a long freakin time (since Late november). Thanks TRW
  2. Well I took my baby to the audio shop today, and they disconnected the wire you said. They also claimed they ran a new +12 (altho they ran one several days ago as well) and it's ship shape. So Richard thanks very much for the excellent advice. TRW
  3. Thank you. I will pass that on. I'm sure it's something like that.
  4. Hi guys: I went ahead today and got a local car audio guy to replace my CDR-23 With a clarion. The install went fine, no issues, except for one. The radio works fine when it's Stopped. As soon as the car starts moving, say above 1 or 2 clicks per hour, it turns off. Observation #1: I rev the engine in neutral the clarion unit stays on. Observation #2: I put the car in neutral and roll down a slight incline AKA my driveway and after 4 or 5 feet the Clarion turns off. Observation #3: I can inch the car forward in gear and it stays on, until it reaches a speed similar to that of test #2 and then it turns off. Observation #4: When the car is stopped for extended periods (about 5 minutes) the Clarion stays on the entire time. It kinda sounds to me like a system that they use to lock out controls on a GPS, could it be that is the power source they are connecting the radio too? The car is stock except for an exhaust system. I have had an issue since the car was a year old where the battery light comes intermittently the first time the key is put in the ignition. Turn the key to off and then back on and the light stays off. This has continued through 2 batteries and nothing shows up on the durametric. I only mention it as a full disclosure type deal. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  5. I Owned a 996 2002 Boxster, which had a RMS problem so i traded it in for a 2004 Carrera Cab, which I loved. Then in 2006 I saw a GT3 in a lot (an 04), given up by a guy who thought it would be a good daily driver. Well, I let the GF drive the Carrera and I got the GT3. I have Since got rid of the GF and the Carrera, but the GT3, never. After I drove the GT3, i never drove the carrera again. I use it as a daily driver (in the short summer months) and in the past i tracked it. I have never driven a TT but i can't imagine it's more fun than driving a GT3.
  6. Hey guys, a quick question. I recently purchased a Sparco Harness Bar (professionally installed) and a pair of the Sparco 4 point harnesses. Now I'm looking for the right place to Attach them on My GT3, it looks like 2 of them replace the bolts on the back bolts for the seat frame (which is stock) but i'm not sure if that's right, and if it is, I'm not sure where the other two bolts go for each side. Any thoughts? Thanks all.
  7. Here is a word of warning... I was in a Dealership in Toronto for service. (I know, Toronto, but I'll bet it applies everywhere). The sales manager was on the phone with someone else and the part of the call I heard went something like this. ...yes we repair all Porsches, but ones purchased in the US have a 7 week wait period for repairs. Yes that is our policy... Basically, the dealer was punishing the customer because he bought the car in the US and not in Canada, where they are much more expensive. Take it with a grain of salt, I didn't hear the entire conversation, don't know the history, but I know the part that I heard.
  8. Well if I can put in my 2 cents, I have a 996 C2 and a 996 GT3, and the breaking on each car is completely different. The GT3 has huge breaks compared to the Carrera, and I guess it comes down to track vs. street. I find the Carrera better because there is more flexibility, rather than just a no break/full break type feeling. But both cars are 996, the C2 is a 03 and the GT3 is an 04. I know the breaks are red on the GT3 and gray on the Carrera, so maybe it is a totally different breaking system.
  9. 2002 Boxster S (986) - Catastrophic failure < 20000KM (12000M). Engine replaced. Got rid of it at 32K for Cabriolet 2003 Carrera C2 Cabriolet (996) (current 62000KM) - Engine failed - the common problem with the Main Rear Seals at 42000KM - Numerous O2 Sensors Cataletic converters (did I spell that right?). - Pulley broke which caused engine to overheat, had to have it towed to dealer. When it was fixed they must have loosened a hose on the power steering. 2 days after returned, power steering failed, went back to shop. 2004 911 GT3 (996) (Current 19000KM) Thankfully no issues yet with this beastie.
  10. Thank you very much. Now if the weather can get just a little warmer so we can start the track days.
  11. Haha, I found that out the hard way at a skid event where I smashed into a cone and the cone popped the licence plate off. d'oh.
