  1. 2001 Boxster 5 speed 2.7L. 74K miles. CEL would come on and code was P0430 ( I believe that is cat performance bank 2). I cleared the code and it would return every 2 to 3 days. I checked the freeze frame data and the temperature and speed was never the same. It just seemed random. I swapped the right and left O2 sensors after cat thinking that if the cat was bad, the 0430 code would come back but if the O2 sensor was bad, a different code would come up seeing I change banks. They were both clean. I cleaned the crud from between the wires where then go into the sensor and reinstalled. Cleared the code. the CEL has not come back on and there are no pending codes after 5 days and 250 mies. Could it have been dirty connections in the socket, the computer is still recalibrating and the code will eventually come back, the crud between the wires on the sensor --- any ideas as to why it appears cured. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. Any theories or comments? thanks
  2. Too bad dealers don't seem to know. It went through 3 dealers and 4 MAF's in 6 months and other parts before Autobahn found it.
  3. Pull out air filter. Look down inside with flashlight. check for debris. My "bad" readings and 3 dealers changing the MAF 4 times turned out to be a cigarette wrapper cellophane in the bottom of the air filter duct.
  4. 2001 2.7L Boxster. CEL light would come on intermittently. Sometimes go out by itself but when it won't, I had the dealer fix it. Thousands of dollars later (under extended warranty) with 4 MAF's and other parts, AUTOBAHN PORSCHE, FORT WORTH TEXAS found the problem and it turns out is common. They found a cigarette wrapper cellophane in the air filter duct work. Here's how. The wrapper was stuck to the outside of the air filter. When a dealer changed the air filter, as they slipped it out of the assembly, the cellophane was scrapped off by the edge of the slot the filter slips into, You can't see this happening, but it does. Then the wrapper fell to the bottom of the filter duct work assembly. When the new filter was put in, the wrapper was now on the engine side of the filter, so the wrapper would float around inside and intermittently distort air flow. After removing it, no more problems. A year later, I change the air filter and sure enough, a week later the CEL came on. Took out the filter, looked into the slot with a flashlight and sure enough, found a June Bug (beetle about the size of a nickel) at the bottom of the duct. Took it out with a vacuum extension, reassembled, cleared the CEL and no more errors. So I wonder, all the guys that have intermittent CEL that try different things and then it comes back, did they remove the air filter and look down inside?
  5. I sent an email to Maguiar's which are products I have always used on all my cars. They did not list a fabric convertible top cleaner or protector. Their reply was that they recommend the use of canvas cleaner and a canvas protectorant from their marine products. Found it at a boat store. It really works great, does not effect the color or texture of the top and water beads on the top instead of just soaking in.
