  1. This board is a great resource! I had a fail to start problem Won't Start and Solenoid and through Loren's assistance avoided a trip to the dealer or local Indy shop for a new (or rebuild) starter and R&R charges. Total 1.5 hour job for proficient DIY'er. New soleoind from Wagner Alternators in Chino Hills http://www.wagneralt.com for $40.45 and I'm back in business. (800)345-5927 Ask for Erik or Rick. The original one they sent with the correct part number for my starter 996 604 107 00, Bosch 0 001 115 011 came without the solenoid plunger rubber boot. They built one up, Fedex'd on their dime and I had the correct replacement part installed the next day in Virginia. Talk about great Customer Service. I will use them for all future electrical needs. Thanks again Loren. Steve
  2. First thing - verified both with continuity check and Durametric Then battery, Optoma 34R - Load tested, good voltage/charge, good connections. Then ignition switch - removed and verified continuity through inner and an outer terminal when in start Checked immobilizer via Durametric which opens and closes based on key position And finally voltage readings on Solenoid Start Trigger Terminal - the small lug - whic reads +12V when key in start position yet solenoid does not cycle. Thanks, Steve
  3. Where is the main motor ground strap? Thanks, Steve
  4. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=28395 Still trying to isolate why my 05 TTS Cab won't engage the starter. How can I check the starter relay and solenoid? Which relay is it? Can I swap out another relay to test? What voltages shoud the terminals on the solenoid read when key in "on" and "start" positions? Thanks, Steve
  5. Loren, After leaving the car sit for several days, I went out and it fired up immediately. After leaving it running for a couple minutes I shut it down and attempted to restart with the same symptom of not cranking. I then checked the starter motor/solenoid cables and found that measuring voltage at the Starter Trigger terminal on the soleniod reads +12V when placing the key in the start position without the solenoid cycling. Do I have a bad solenoid? Can I buy just the solenoid? Item 10 in parts picture vice 11 for the starter/solenoid assembly. Thanks Steve
  6. Nevermind on immobilizer - Durametric needed to refresh and now shows closed. I'll look at the starter cables.
  7. "Actual Values" "Immobilizer" shows "Closed" once running by bump starting Shows "Open" after shutting off engine and won't go back to "Closed" by turning the key. Have I just isolated the "Theft Control Unit" as failed?
  8. Car can be "bump" started in 2nd gear down my driveway. Will not start using starter, even with jumper cables from another car. Durametric "Actual values" shows "Clutch switch" cycle open and closed with movement of clutch pedal. Wiggling Key does not cause engine to die. I'm willing to get new battery but find it unlikely to be the cause if starter won't engage with jumper cables attached. I'll check the leads to the starter, ground and +12v. Thanks
  9. No water under seat. No Durametric Falut Codes in Motronic, Alarm or Instrument Cluster. Thanks Loren
  10. '05 Turbo S Cabriolet won't engage starter. Bump starts fine. Checked battery voltage and attempted to jumper cable start. Drove for 2 hours with voltmeter showing 13.5-14 volts to charge battery. Still wouldn't engage starter once shutdown. Checked Clutch Interlock for continuity when limit switch engaged - OK. Pulled ignition switch - Audi Part # 4B0 905 849 - and checked terminal contiuity when turned to start detent - can't remember which terminals but got continuity between one of the center posts and an outside terminal. Anyone have the Terminal Pinout? I suspect Theft Control Unit but don't want to surrender to dealer just yet. How can I isolate Theft Control Unit as culprit? BTW - Don't know if it is related but have intemittent Failure of Oil Pressure Indicator without Red Oil Pressure light comming on - suspect damaged lead grounding to Indicator Pressure Sensor. Thanks, Steve
  11. Do I need to drop the motor to R&R the intake manifold? TIA - Steve
  12. I pressurized my intake to 7.5 psi and hear an air leak on the top of the intake manifold to the Drivers side of the center around the device circled. I can't get to it with a soap spray bottle. Any ideas on how to fix? Do I need to pull the motor? TIA - Steve
  13. Am I supposed to apply any grease to the gaskets on my Silicone Boost Hose gaskets? If so, what kind? TIA - Steve
