    Firstly I would like to say hi as a newbie and look forward to getting involved in this forum. I have just purchased my first boxster 2.5 1999 and apart from loving every minute i spend in it am looking for things to add / upgrade. I today purchased off Ebay a Sony CDX-656 CD changer (10 disc) to work with the factory becker CDR-22 head unit. The cabling from the back of the stereo to the CD changer was already in place. The changer powers up but after reading theinstructions all I require to do is press the "s" button and I should find the CD changer. No luck with this though. I have removed the stereo and checked the cabling to the rear and theCD changer cable is present in the "C2 slot" with a green plug as per other forum notes. Can anybody tell me how I can get this working?? www.add a changer.co.uk sell the cable and CD changer and say on thrie site it shoud just plug in and work. Read somewhere else the Becker headunit needs a firmware upgrade.

    Anybody heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp???

    this is the instructions for the aux input. should be the same for adding changer. basically you need to tell the cdr220 that you have the cd changes and you want it to be available in the source (S button) choice.

    so basically follow these instructions but look for something about the changer instead. the aux plugs into the same place as the cd changer.

    To select Auxiliary Input for Porsche CR220 \ CDR220:

    Turn radio ON Press and hold the "TP" button for about 8 seconds, until Becker 1 is displayed. Turn the

    Tuning Knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Press either button located directly under the Arrows on the

    display to change the present setting from OFF to ON. Turn radio OFF. Auxiliary Audio Input has now

    been activated.

  2. Well I bought myself a set of these:

    In essence its a normal socket that fits on the end of a ratchet with spiral teeth with a reverse thread.

    I soaked the bolt with penetrating fluid and after about a minute or 2 of swearing and cursing, the bolt finally gave way. I have no idea how strong the booga was who put this on - I'm hardly a svelte chap and it took some effort to release.

    Having looked at the damage I had caused to the bolt, its actually a very soft metal which I found strange.

    Oh well, just need to get a new bolt now...

    those irwin tools look awesome. may have to buy a set just to have on hand in case.

  3. Ok, you are going to do a retrofit. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47268 Brucem is the only one I know who has done this. If you get your parts take pictures of how the ducts need to be modified.

    I plan on taking pics. i have all the parts i need (vents, horseshoe, brackets etc) just got the wrong cupholders. sunset estimated 2 weeks. :(

    overall it looks pretty painless. i've read on various forums that others have done this mod. heard estimates of less than 1 hour for the full install.

    from what brucem says, it looks like one needs to melt/mold the ducts in the car and slightly trim the back of the vents.

    will photo and document the process.

  4. Did not know there was different versions. But what whould you do with it anyway?

    The cupholders pull out away from the driver. putting the wrong model in the wrong car has the cupholder pull out towards the steering wheel.

    as for what i would do with the cupholders? i would think that is pretty obvious. maybe put a drink or 2 in there. not everyone can make every single drive an all out track experience. wish i could.

    Some (not very forthcoming) person on ebay sold me a LHD (uk?) cupholder. unfortunately it pulls out toward the steering wheel.

    it has the following part number on it.

    996 552 184 00

    what is the correct part number for a US(and others?) spec RHD model?

    figured i'd share this little bit of customization.

    originally, had the standard ashtray, the lid no longer stayed closed.

    then i bought the non-smoker kit. liked it better than a busted ashtray but still not that useful.

    the other day i was looking at my old 4g ipod, and realized the width was just about perfect to fit width-wise into the old ashtray bezel.

    this type of install is only good if you plan on only rarely taking the ipod out of the car. mine is a big clunker 40gb so i only take it out to update song every so often.

    also have an rf wireless remote to control tracks and such without using the ipod. although with this mounting, its pretty easy to skip back and forth without looking at the ipod.

    so, anyway, an hour or so with a dremel tool has resulted in this.

    hey, look! i have an ipod in my ashtray. still not really safe to use while moving. but in general, i like not seeing any wires and think its a simple, clean install. also, putting the ashtray lid back on helps cut down on unwanted attention from thieves and such.

    a kind of big hole for the dock connector. this is for the ipod connector from the aux input. the one from pie or whatever.

  8. OK sorry guys I know this stuff has been posted all over. But i can't sem to get it right. I have a MY00 with a CDR-220

    I want to hook my Ipod Nano up to my radio (with docking station) so that I can control everything from my radio and charge the ipod in the docking station. How do I do it, and where do I buy it. Pertend I am really dumb.

  10. Just noticed that both the bulbs above my rear license plate are out. Was looking to replace with PIAA LED , will I need the PIAA T-6 or T-10 dome light bulbs?

    i can't speak about the piaa specs because i have never owner nor will i ever own anything made by piaa.

    but i can tell you that the festoon bulb is 39mm or 1.5" wide.

    there are plenty of places to get led festoon bulbs.

  11. I think the actual question was more intended to be something like this:

    can you run 2 sets of aftermarket hid at the same time. and this is actually a good question. now that i have my light gear lights installed, i no longer like the look of the fog lights. it would be sweet to run a set of hid for the fogs also. i'm thinking it might work since they don't get ignited at the same time. i dunno. these light kits are cheap enough now where one could run 2 or 3 sets. although that's lots of dead weight with all those ballasts etc...

  12. i just finished installing my hid kit.

    let me start out by saying i was happy this morning when i went on my first drive with my car completely de-ambered, but tonight when driving with the HID and the de-ambered, i am even happier.

    so total damage for the month.

    $82 for clear headlights (slightly burnt but now fixed)

    $164 for 550 special edition tails

    $114 shipped for the hid kit.

    i am pretty impressed with this whole h7 upgrade route.

  13. finally got around to swapping my ambers for clears.

    you can see i bought some messed up burnt headlights on ebay for $82

    the inner lenses were toast (literally) but the outer pieces were fine. so long story short, put them all in the oven and swapped the clear pieces on to my headlight assemblies. used permatex black silicon (16b i think) to reseal after scraping out the old sealant. it's not reusable.

    orignally posted this on 986forums, but i think the boxster forum community is already too splintered so i'm going to only post here i thinks.

    1. baked the 03+ clears with the burnt lenses and remove the clear outer cover piece from them.

    2. baked my headlights, removed the clear outer cover piece w/amber, scraped all of the old silicon seal out, placed a new bead of silicon seal, installed new clear piece.

    a side benefit of this is that the clear headlights from porsche have an amber insert that some people have used a soldering iron to remove. these pieces are already clear from the old amber style. so now i have clear lights with clear turn signals. also installed a chromed amber bulb, so they still blink amber. i am very happy to be amber free. also installed my 550 edition tails on the same day.

    also washed car a few hours after install. no fogging. let silicon cure for 24 hours before installing back on car. the sealing process seemed the same on these lights in general. the only annoying thing was removing the old silicon bead. it was dry and rubbery unlike the seals i've seen on subaru and vw.
