I don't think it has any relevance. It is just a security light to let people know the alarm is on. You can turn the light off if you want.

I don't have a short shifter but can say a lot of people have been very happy with the eBay short shifters that sell for about $80. The reason I have not installed one, is because I've heard they make shifting rough.

There is a website called 1010tire, and they have detailed tire reviews. I would start looking there.

I went with ContiWinterContacts because they had better ratings than the Blizzaks. I was pleased with them and they never let me down. Except once on a patch of ice, and another time on hard packed snow (I should have used chains). But both those situations are tough for any non studded snow tire.

Also, a second set of rims is nice but not necessary.

A few people have also just used generic seat heaters, then wired them to the OEM rocker switches. With the design of the Boxster seats, it would not be hard to add them this way for a few hundred dollars. Just tap into the 12V telephone connector for power.

Read on ppbb that if the engine number had an X at the end it had been replaced. Is that true?

I am thinking about doing a garage door opener hack. Which will be great because it will fill the final blank switch on my dash. I already have the footwell light switch for the OBC so I need something else that won't look too out of place.

I saw that there is a 996 Rear Window Wiper rocker switch, PN: 996.613.136.00. It seems like it may look alright and comes in gloss.

Does anyone have a picture of this switch?

Can you install it upside down?

I was curious is my engine had been replaced by the previous owner or not. So I was trying to find my engine serial number. I think I found where it should be, but there is nothing there.

Is the serial number imprited on the engine or is a stick on plate?

I just wired another cigarette lighter into the phone connector under the center console. Then plugged my GPS in. I also routed the cable through the dash so it comes out between the dash and the instrument cluster. It makes the install look at lot cleaner.

You can do that, and a lot of people like that way, but the relay costs closer to about $40. Plus, it isn't OEM, and you have to activate the windshield sprayers and spray your windshield to use it. So if you want to set a 30 second interval you have to spray your windshield with fluid for 30 seconds unless you can find the sweet spot to set the relay without activating the washers which is hard to do.

You can easily 'update' the exterior looks of the 986 to look like the 987, the interior will be much harder. If you want to spend the money to update every inch of the car, it would probably be more cost effective to just get a 987.

The Cayenne is the same boat as all other SUV's. Their trade in values are dropping daily. I read an article a while back about how some dealers are no longer taking trucks and SUV as trade ins because they are hard to sell, and have to many already.

Trade-in values are always low. They have to be some the dealer can make a profit. Depending on your mileage I would think your car is worth at least 5-8k more.

The cable may have broken, or come detached from the lever. This is probably something you need a mechanic to look at unless your comfortable taking the drivers side sill apart. Do you still feel tension when you pull on the lever?

The water pump was plastic blades that can crack and break, so even at 66k miles it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. It would explain the clicking.

Does it attach with adhesive?

I can't get the jack back far enough to use the point under the engine, so I am going to end up using the side alt. jack points. It seems like plenty have used it without problems. Plus, I think the hockey puck will work nicely as a cushion, know that I have molded it properly.

Jes, thanks for that post. So what you doing is using the factory point, and then putting the jacks on the points labeled PCA B in the picture on the other thread? That's seems like a good way to do it.

So when I was feeling under the lip where this alt. point is, it struck me that once the metals bends, and is flush with the piece underneath it, that point is strong enough to jack the car from. But you have to bend the metal the initial 1/4", which is barely noticeable even when you looking right at it.

Is this assumption correct?

I am sure that the bending isn't damaging anything important, but if I can jack the car with out hurting anything I would prefer too.

When I started to jack it up ignoring the buckling I heard a loud creaking sound. I immediately lowered the car to discover some bending, that was a little worse than I am comfortable with. Perhaps, the hockey puck I just bought will help.

I know that there have been plenty of threads on jacking, and I have looked at all of them but I am having a few problems. I am trying to remove my wheels so I can clean them thoroughly, and coat them with some wheel wax.

I got it up and then lowered it check everything. The crease that you are supposed to use was starting to buckle and bend, luckily I caught it before it got too bad.

So what am I doing wrong?

It mentions using the point just behind the muffler listed as the rainy day jack point in the picture. Is that point safe to use?

My jack can't fit all the way back to the point under the engine.

My goal is to make everything fully reversible. So if the car gets totaled or sold I can swap the speakers out.

I really only want the speaker rings and the plug they use. Because I have painted grills, I will still have to take my speakers apart, but I won't be destroying anything.

I just found a pair of 996 rear speakers for $25. They look very similar to the dash speakers in the 996/986 except without a tweeter. Will they fit in a 986? I just want the grill and speaker ring to upgrade my dash speakers without destroying my original speakers.
